Hi everyone, as above, can anyone help with possible dress ideas for wedding in a couple of months time. Weather will be mild, I’m size 6-8, short and wear most colours, and would wear heels etc. fancy wedding with long lunch and after party. Excited but a bit daunted!

Or if you’d be able to walk in them any old outfit with some more quirky heels like these:

I love that as a theme! To me it's someone like Caroline Vazzana's style, on Insta. Lux, maximalist, extra and really joyful.

My god, just wear whatever you like. It’ll fit that stupid theme!!

DappledThings · 10/01/2026 13:21

Wear whatever you would normally wear to a wedding and be comfortable in. Dress codes are crass nonsense at the best of times and this one is dreadful. It's meaningless, so just ignore it.

GameOfJones · 10/01/2026 13:22

My immediate thoughts was "what wankers" if they genuinely have specified that as a dress code. How embarrassing!

I completely agree with @LupaMoonhowl

Whatever happened to just wanting peope you love to come and celebrate with you

7catsisnotenough · 10/01/2026 13:23

Maybe they mean "Polish"?! National dress could be an option 🤣

user1471538275 · 10/01/2026 13:25

Wear whatever you've got available and like wearing, whatever makes you feel good and is appropriate for the weather/conditions of the day.

Polished but playful sounds more like a mindset than a dress code so just claim that's what you're channeling.

TheChosenTwo · 10/01/2026 13:26

Dress codes for a wedding make me cringe 😂 I’m embarrassed for them and their pretentious notions 😂
i’d just wear a nice dress, same as I do for any wedding. I love going to weddings but not once have I been instructed to dress to a theme thank god. I don’t go to fancy dress parties because I hate the idea, this is giving me those vibes too.

I do too - I’m actually really jealous as I’d love an excuse to get my Terry de Havillands out!

RaraRachael · 10/01/2026 13:32

I just wouldn't adhere to a stupid dress code like that. Wear what you want. What are they going to say, "Sorry you're not polished but playful enough - you can't come in"

Flaok · 10/01/2026 13:37

I mean, I like clothes, and I could even get on board with a lot of "wedding theme" ideas. But this? "Polished but playful"? What the fuck is that?

Is it the same as smart casual?

Does it involve haute couture? Babygros and stilettos? Clowns? Balloon animals? All of the above?

What a lot of stress to give to their wedding guests. And what a pig's breakfast their wedding album is going to be.

Glittertwins · 10/01/2026 13:41

Nope, I’d not be going either. I’ll wear why I want to buy and probably wear again.

PassportPanicFuuuck · 10/01/2026 14:35

A clown suit with a quick spritz of Mr Sheen?

Owly11 · 10/01/2026 14:36

BitOutOfPractice · 10/01/2026 12:30

That truly is a wanky dress code. Almost designed to give people anxiety.

how about a jumpsuit?

This. My thoughts exactly. Just wear what you want and ignore the wanky dress code.

Smartiepants79 · 10/01/2026 15:24

I’m glad you’re excited about it but I agree it is very pretentious and try hard.
The thing I never understand about this kind of thing is what happens if you don’t follow it? Someone who likes you enough to invite you to their wedding, are they going to throw you out if you wear pink to their black and white wedding?

IdaGlossop · 10/01/2026 15:28

Call their bluff and wear the most expensive burlesque outfit you can afford.

Bulbsbulbsbulbs · 10/01/2026 15:29

Jesus Christ what a ridiculous dress code. 'Playful' my arse. They sound like a pair of knobs.

I'd just wear what I'd normally wear to a wedding.

AgnesMcDoo · 10/01/2026 15:31

Knob ends

ElegantFowl · 10/01/2026 15:36

What utter wankery. Just wear something you like.

Enko · 10/01/2026 15:50

Id go for a trousser sout with something bright

Trousers | Tailored Crepe Placed Floral Wide Leg Trouser | KarenMillen https://share.google/Op5CySMB9slf2d5Bc

Similar to that. Or look at the long coat thats suggested with a pastel suit.

Maryberrysbouffant · 10/01/2026 15:51

manicpixieschemegirl · 10/01/2026 12:55

Jesus God, the misery on this thread! I swear most mumsnetters would attend weddings wearing their pyjamas if they could.

What’s your budget, OP?

Tbh a wedding with the theme “pyjama party” would absolutely be my dream.

Chersfrozenface · 10/01/2026 15:54

I'd be going in a Missy from Doctor Who costume, complete with hat, powder compact and umbrella
