Yes, I'm in agreement that Sophie didn't have the best wedding look. I wonder if 3 divorces from 3 of her children's marriages had made the late Queen somewhat cautious with her tiara gifts.
The wedding necklace and earrings were a wedding gift from Edward, and designed by him. No doubt very expensive, with the dark and light pearls, but I don't think it worked well. She certainly doesn't seem to wear it much.
Her wedding tiara has since been remodelled and has a better frame with a row of diamonds added.
Far nicer.

With all the stuff about Andrew being his mother's favourite I feel sorry for Edward. He and Sophie seem so nice! They seemed to go to a lot of lovely tiara events though!

I like the tiara with the halo effect, that's very pretty.

Looks like Sophie and Edward were the go-to BRF attendees for royal weddings for a number of years. That seems like a fairly good gig!

Yes! I wouldn't have minded that job.

Elizabeth was an oyster. It's highly unlikely that she would ever let on about a favourite child, even if it were true. Who knows.
Anyway, I don't feel sorry for Edward and Sophie, they seem to have carved out a good life for themselves, and have a decent amount of engagements. I'm particularly glad that Sophie has chosen the difficult topic of sexual violence in war zones. That last visit to Sudan looked particularly harrowing.

I loved Sophie's wedding dress, but I seem to be very much in a minority there!

eggandonion · 22/01/2026 17:02

I mean I feel sorry for Edward with all the tabloids saying Andrew was the golden child. Edward seemed very quiet...actually my mother in law had a favourite and a younger quiet child.
But I was happy that Edward and Sophie became the Edinburghs. They seem like ideal family members!

Maireas · 22/01/2026 17:05

I expect Edward ignores tabloid nonsense, if he's got any sense.

Some of those photos of Sophie in the Tatler article are really lovely - her dress at the South African dinner is a gorgeous colour and I loved her look at the Luxembourg wedding.

QEII's dress at the Edward/Sophie wedding was dreadful - rare miss. I thought Sophie's wedding look was ok - the tiara was a bit underwhelming considering they are stacked 3 deep in Buckingham Palace but I thought she looked nice.

RockaLock · 22/01/2026 17:18

Gosh, Sophie and Edward really did go to all the European weddings, didn’t they! I think she looks so lovely in all those photos.

Choux · 22/01/2026 18:17

Royals lining up for their photos at events. Not much excitement in January outfits it seems. I guess Leti is in mourning black.

Sophie looking good in burgundy. Daisy looking good but that’s going to be real fur isn’t it?

When we were in Hungary last year, there furriers (?) fur shops (?) and people were wearing proper real furs. Was a bit of surprise.

I loved it too I thought it was very different for a Royal bride.

Maireas · 22/01/2026 19:54

They do still wear fur in Eastern Europe and in Russia. Actually, I've seen it in Italy as well.
I like Sophie in burgundy, otherwise, as you say, @Choux , all a bit January! I'm not keen on Charlene's white jacket over the black outfit.

I went to Venice one new year and I think I was the only woman there not wearing a mink coat - and consequently the only woman there who was bloody freezing. 🥶

Real fur is certainly warm!

Out of the Euro royal ladies, I only like Leti's all black outfit - quite chic.
Char's looking great and I like the change in her hair, but the white jacket doesn't look quite right, a bit bulky perhaps?
And my favourite Max - why aren't you in a glorious colour or a mad outfit?! The tan just seems dowdy in comparison to her usual joie de vivre! Even her hair is toned down! No!!😆

Maireas · 22/01/2026 22:06

Yes, our expectations of Max are quite high on the colour/left field/big jewellery options!

Older women in Spain wear fur too. It is accepted

Stephanie is wearing the white privilege, and I always think the veil is tricky to pull off, but she's managed it.
The boys look very cute, although getting bigger!
I like the sight of the Papal laptop!

No ,sorry, she looks like a child doing her first Holy Communion.

That's the style, though. Thet wear white with a veil. Even Leti struggled with that!
Privilege du blanc, perhaps the black looks better?

OP posts:
gingercat02 · 23/01/2026 17:14

The FHC look is probably inevitable in a white dress and veil, suitable for meeting the Pope. I'm sure the honour outweighs the lack of style.
