How many jumpers do you own?

pomeglamate · 30/10/2025 12:17

Recent discovery of Vinted has given me so many jumper problems. I previously thought that four jumpers was a decent god-fearing number to own. Now I am up to six jumpers and counting. Two of them are cashmere. I asked AI and it said that 7-10 jumpers is a reasonable number of jumpers?!? Thrilled if this is so but think this is a situation where I need real human input. How many jumpers do you own?? Bonus points for telling me about your favourite jumpers.

I've gone a bit knitwear mad this autumn. I've been giving the side-eye to a few acrylic abominations that need throwing out, and I've invested (sorry, that's a bit wanky) in two cashmere jumpers and one lambswool cardigan. This is to add to two geelong wool polo necks that I have already.

It's so nice to be warm and not sweaty.

barbismyfriend · 30/10/2025 17:42

8 😱 and 5 cardigans but no sweatshirts

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 30/10/2025 17:02

What's the difference, I've never been quite sure!

Jumpers are knitted, sweatshirts are made from joggers-type material. Both score highly on the cosy-o-meter.

Conniebygaslight · 30/10/2025 17:45

Far too many of everything…..Vinted is the devils work.

hexsnidgett · 30/10/2025 17:46

Knitted jumpers, I think 8. Cardigans about 12. Hoodies and sweatshirts maybe 10. 2x Fleeces. Plus scruffy ones for over pjs.

hexsnidgett · 30/10/2025 17:47

Oh yes 3x tank tops!

MadMumOfTwoHorrors · 30/10/2025 17:51

Lots….and lots…and lots….and then a few more.
I’ve got 15 jumpers and 6 cardigans in my wardrobe, then another 5 jumpers in a drawer. On top of that, I have 7 sweatshirts, 4 zip up hoodies, 3 over the head hoodies and 4 fleeces. It’s entirely possible there are more in the cupboard in the spare room that I’ve forgotten about. I also have 2 Christmas jumpers if they count.
I am always cold, so am constantly buying what looks like the cosiest one yet, only to find I’m still cold. Often I wear a jumper with a hoody over the top.
My favourite knitted ones are 2 I bought in Sainsburys, a linen Schoffel one and a big chunky one from Scamp and Dude.
My fave sweatshirts are from Scamp and Dude and Beaumont and Bear.

Funnywonder · 30/10/2025 17:51

I have about 6 jumpers, although I suspect more lurking somewhere that I’ve forgotten about. Cardigans though - 20 maybe? I knit and crochet a lot. I don’t really have the confidence to make things for other people (except babies who can’t really complain🤣) so I have a growing collection of cardigans, my favourite thing to make.

Daisy62 · 30/10/2025 17:53

7 jumpers, 3 cardis - some more than 5 yrs old. 3 of the jumpers are long ones (used to wear with skinny jeans) so not getting much wear atm tho have just bought an elastic belt to try tucking them into. Their time will come again tho as all in good condition.

Loads. And yet, somehow never enough…

I am very sensitive to temperature so have different jumpers for different temperatures. At least 4 in each level of warmth. Also have under jumpers which are thin cashmere/merino that I wear under other jumpers when I’m going to be outside in the cold for a long time, I wouldn’t wear those on their own though, they’re not very flattering.

I have a very garish jumper that was my dad’s. It’s hideous but my dad wore it my whole life until he died and it’s the one item of clothing I couldn’t part with because it just reminded me so much of him so it’s a house jumper for me!

I have a couple of hoodies that only come out when we’re camping but I should probably get rid of them. I don’t like hoodies really.

My friend always laughs at me because she wears shorts and t shirt in summer and then jeans and tshirt with a hoodie in the winter. Her wardrobe is tiny compared to mine! I have different warmth T-shirts, different warmth jeans, different warmth socks, different warmth jumpers, different warmth dresses…as well as various base layers and I often change part way through the day if I don’t feel right in temperature. (I also have an array of coats for the same reason)

Are you me? Sounds like my wardrobe, complete with changing during the day.

IMTHECRAZYOLDLADY · 30/10/2025 17:59

I have eight jumpers and two cardigans. I could really do with another cardigan and also a knitted dress

user65342 · 30/10/2025 18:00

About 8/10 plus a couple of Xmas jumpers and 4/5 hoodies. Have always preferred winter clothes and wear jumpers constantly for about 6 months of the year.

WhyOhWhyEightyTwo · 30/10/2025 18:04

Oh god reading the answers on here I see I have a problem, probably about 40.

LatteLady · 30/10/2025 18:05

Amateurs, at least a dozen or more cashmere sweaters aquired on Vinted and eBay, about 8 Christmas sweaters, and another dozen ordinary jumpers. A drawer full of cardigans sorted in rainbow order... then there is the hand knits. I do not see a problem.

Meadowfinch · 30/10/2025 18:06

1 x Celtic&Co Donegal
4 x basic lambswool crew necks
1 x lambswool cardigan
1 x Fair Isle tank
1 x lambswool short sleeved sweater

Plus various fleeces and skiing/running tops

No cashmere or angora - it makes me itch.

GarlicHound · 30/10/2025 18:09

I've got ... a lot. I'm impressed by those who actually know how many of each type they have! Jumpers/cardis get far more use in the UK than lightweight tops.

I have all sorts from cheap acrylic to cashmere. Well, only one cashmere and I haven't dared to check whether it's got moth damage. My silk dress has, so it's likely. Acrylic & polyester make good cold weather sweaters because they're hot!

Current favourite is a turquoise M&S merino v-neck.

Oh, and I've also got five sweater dresses.

RedRiverShore5 · 30/10/2025 18:11

Only a couple as I prefer a cardigan of which I have many.

BigSkies2022 · 30/10/2025 18:12

10, including a sleeveless mohair tank top and a white cotton knit for summer. I did have eleven but have given one away to my mum. One of the ten is a ratty old cashmere polo neck with unmendable holes that I wear for gardening, dog walking, general slovenly moments. Six are cashmere, one mohair, one merino, one cotton and one a merino/manmade mix.

i often see new looks for jumpers on TV shows and the like and think , ooh, new jumper. But then I think of my lovely organised wardrobe and how everything I have goes with everything else, and my shopping hand is stayed.

TheCosyViewer · 30/10/2025 18:12

I actually counted mine earlier today and have 27 jumpers/cardigans.

4 are what I would describe as statement pieces - more than one colour or interesting buttons type.
6 merino crew-necks in a range of colours
5 light cashmere which I don’t wear too often as I find them too warm but they get a few wears each winter.
2 cardigans that I wear around Christmas as they are slightly sparkly.
3 cardigans in a cotton knit fabric that I wear in summer.
3 wool jumpers (that are now in a charity bag as I find them too scratchy to wear)
4 ‘old’ jumpers that I wear when gardening, etc.

Most of these are years old and are from COS, Jigsaw, Me&Em, Reiss, Sandro, Maje, Wyse and Max Mara. I have a LOT I know but some are years old and all do get worn (except for the ones that I moved on today).

UncleHerbieIsBack · 30/10/2025 18:13

A selection of my handknits

I have about 8 actual jumpers but have recently branched out into jumper dresses and woollen hoodies. Game changer!

Jins · 30/10/2025 18:20

I can’t vote as I don’t own a single jumper. I don’t own any sweatshirts either and my single cardigan is missing. The last time I remember wearing a jumper was about 2008 and the heating broke in the office.

Silverbirchleaf · 30/10/2025 17:56

I’m glad I’m not alone!

Gatekeeper · 30/10/2025 18:41

I have 45 jumpers and cardigans. I rejoice when the weather turns and I can get them out of the loft and start wearing again. Merino is my utmost favourite esp extra fine merino but lambswool at a pinch. The rest are cotton and 2 are cashmere

My name is Gatekeeper and I am a jumperholic

Kitchenbattle · 30/10/2025 12:42

Too many…pretty much all the bottom rail is jumpers/cardigans. 😂

Gosh I wish my wardrobe was this organised and neat. I would make me very happy indeed
