Does wearing these make me look like a racist ….

I bought these as cheap practical wellies for the winter… fit well. But just put them on for a country walk with friends and the union jacks feel v prominent and with all the flag loonies making me worry about the message I am sending. https://www.argos.co.uk/product/tuc146088210?rec=PDP%5Btuc145899740%5D:attLightbox:extras:ARE:xsell:tuc146088210:YJYTGDGaZVn8xtAXUEAL not worn yet… click and collect so easy to take back. Considered just colouring the flag in . I can’t believe I’m feeling this way but would hate to make anyone feel intimidated.

taken them off and will wear other shoes. What would you do. A bit annoyed by it tbh having our flag stolen by these people.

No they don’t.

I love them and who would of thought Argos do nice welly’s I’m getting them 😍👍 what is the world come to where you can’t be a bit patriotic and wear your country’s flag without thinking you’d offend someone honestly the world has gone mad. I know there are some idiots groups with flags that are racist the chavy Asbo. Jeremy kile contestant type fools that just wanna start trouble but believe it or not they’re all some decent people that just want to be able to fly their country’s flag or wear it on a pair of Wellington boots without judgement. Thanks for sharing them

Unfortunately the UK flag is taken to mean all kinds of things at the moment, so probably not the best time to be wearing it!

I think it's the England flag, the St George, that is more problematic? These are fine.

DrowningInSyrup · 12/10/2025 10:59

I wouldn't wear anything with a British/English flag on it. This has come about from small town mentality. When an Indian opened in town, the right wing rugby lot decided they wanted the (insert horrendous racial slur) out. They flew a St George's Flag outside their club and rugby pub to echo this and intimidate them. This was 30 odd years ago and I could never look at a flag like that without feeling shame at how pir town behaved towars them. That's a me issue though and it's sad that I can't feel any patriotism.

I mean this is a bit silly. The St George's flag yes. But the Union Jack flies at Embassies around the world, all over the capital...it cannot be captured by the racists and allowed to mean just one thing.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 12/10/2025 10:13

I wouldn’t even notice that, no one will be looking closely enough at your feet to see those surely?! But if you’re going to be worrying about it when you’re wearing them I’d return them, it’s not worth the mental headspace.

This^
I needed to zoom in to see the flag.

KitsyWitsy · 12/10/2025 11:26

Bloody ridiculous.

Nicebiscuitsarenice · 12/10/2025 11:27

Starwomanwaiting · 12/10/2025 10:56

I personally would never wear one. But then my dad calls it the “butcher’s apron” to give you some idea of how we view it in our gaff. To me and many others it’s a symbol of colonialism and has far right connotations. This enrages reform types which is funny because reform are far-right but seem to pretend they are not, even though they are literally headed by someone who is not only a well documented racist but actually sang hitler youth songs at school.

So yeah I’d get another pair.

Do you live in the UK?

2dogsandabudgie · 12/10/2025 11:28

Howldens · 12/10/2025 10:21

I think I might assume that you intended to convey your political views by wearing them, yeah. And I definitely wouldn’t wear them for fear others also thought that!!

Oh don't be daft. Honestly!

Some of the packaging on fruit and veg in Aldi and Tesco have the Union Jack flag on it, would you not buy that either in case the cashiers thought you were racist.

nosleepforme · 12/10/2025 11:29

Starwomanwaiting · 12/10/2025 11:05

Yes please to getting rid of all of these! Also those awful cushions.

JUST BECAUSE you don’t like the connotation of a British flag? Wow! So you’d rather not have any driving licenses and therefore cars in the U.K.? Let’s add the add the army to the list while we’re at it!

Care to explain?

LalalalalaItGoesAroundTheWold · 12/10/2025 11:31

As an immigrant I would like to thank Brits for providing endless bafling entertainment by trying to tie themselves in knots over flags. No matter how small.

You know what don't bother, it's bound to be drivel from someone who can be so triggered by the word.

Nicebiscuitsarenice · 12/10/2025 11:30

There's nothing "problematic" about a country's flag. Unless you have gone mad.

Yes, that's about the quality of explanation I expected. As you were.

It doesn't mean just one thing, that's what's sad about it. Like it or not, in the UK, the prevalent use of it at the moment is to support Reform and I really don't want any involvement in that. I can't open the link to see what the boots look like, so can't comment directly on them.

Purplecatshopaholic · 12/10/2025 11:37

I would notice, and I would (silently) judge - just being honest, and yes, my issue not yours. I wouldn’t wear them as I would have the same concerns you do. It’s a sad statement on where we are at the moment.

columnatedruinsdomino · 12/10/2025 11:38

I have knee high Emma Bridgewater wellies from decades ago that are imprinted with the flag all over that I wear for gardening. It’s never occurred to me that it could be construed as racist. Will put them away in the shed for now in case someone looks over the fence and judges me.

Yep it's everywhere which is why Reform have adopted it.

WeeGeeBored · 12/10/2025 11:44

No. In fact the opposite. They’re really nice. Tasteful.

What would your judgement be, please?

Notmyreality · 12/10/2025 11:45

Yes totally.
I’ve seen a lot of racist footwear in my time, and these are by far the worst.

BlueandPinkSwan · 12/10/2025 11:47

It the nicest way to put it, ffs it's our national flag, stop over thinking it! Why would anyone be looking at your boots?
I fly a Union flag on my land and will continue to do so.

EdithBond · 12/10/2025 11:47

If I saw someone wearing those I wouldn’t think they’re racist.

Maybe if the flag was red, white and blue I’d wonder a bit more.

But if you live in an area where lots of people are signalling their views via flags, may be better to steer clear entirely.

Don't believe this for a moment, you are obviously trying to be funny🙄
