I bought these as cheap practical wellies for the winter… fit well. But just put them on for a country walk with friends and the union jacks feel v prominent and with all the flag loonies making me worry about the message I am sending. https://www.argos.co.uk/product/tuc146088210?rec=PDP%5Btuc145899740%5D:attLightbox:extras:ARE:xsell:tuc146088210:YJYTGDGaZVn8xtAXUEAL not worn yet… click and collect so easy to take back. Considered just colouring the flag in . I can’t believe I’m feeling this way but would hate to make anyone feel intimidated.

taken them off and will wear other shoes. What would you do. A bit annoyed by it tbh having our flag stolen by these people.

I think I might assume that you intended to convey your political views by wearing them, yeah. And I definitely wouldn’t wear them for fear others also thought that!!

Really? What has the world come to?

YorkshireGoldDrinker · 12/10/2025 12:49

No. It's a flag. If you hate the flag, you hate the country. The flag is not a symbol of rebellion, it's a symbol of national pride. Thanks for the heads up, they are lovely and I might buy some myself.

I really hate a certain group of people’s readiness to hand things over to racists. It’s like people jumping on anyone doing an ok sign to tell them it’s racist when most people don’t know what you’re talking about.

Wouldn’t it be more constructive to hate racists who appropriate things for their own ends?

Looks more like a 'made in the UK' type of flag rather than a loud and proud flag

They’re not lovely. They are shiny and vulgar.

saveforthat · 12/10/2025 12:53

Threads like these make me want to go out and buy some union jack or English flag adorned clothes.

Neemie · 12/10/2025 12:55

I think you are overthinking this. It is just the flag, not actually a racist symbol. Your boots are not a problem for anyone. If it helps you feel better, take comfort in the fact that lots of people in the world happily hate the British with no feelings of guilt whatsoever.

Maddy70 · 12/10/2025 12:57

They aren't the George cross and it's discreet and classy. I think they're fine

helloweena · 12/10/2025 12:59

I wouldn’t have thought anything, my dog has a union jack identity plaque on his collar and has done since a pup. It would never occur to me to remove it now.

CrystalShoe · 12/10/2025 13:02

They're tiny, not bright, and look like a logo denoting a British brand. It would never occur to me that the wearer was being political, on the extremely small chance that I even noticed them!

NoSoapJustUseShowerGel · 12/10/2025 13:04

No they don’t. I’m very much against all the flag stuff but I wouldn’t bat an eyelid at these as it’s not that noticeable and not in the flag colours.

IB40 · 12/10/2025 13:05

I'm of Asian descent, I wouldn't notice the logo on your wellies, and if I did, I couldnt care less if you had a flag on them! Do you usually feel like your dress sense gets scrutinised in public?! Or are you just here to virtue signal? There's nothing wrong with the UJ, and in having a sense of pride in the country you live in and its flag.

Gettingbysomehow · 12/10/2025 13:07

Lol WHAT 😅Not unless you get the nazi shiny jack boots version.

KimHwn · 12/10/2025 13:14

I think that the people qualified to answer this question are the ones who are being targeted by people who wave flags as a means to intimidate.

TheHouseElf · 12/10/2025 13:16

Think you've lost your mind, if you think a pair of wellies is going to offend someone cause its got a British flag on it. Seriously.

1offnamechange · 12/10/2025 13:19

just take them out for a boggy country walk, get mud splattered all over the flag so it's covered, problem sorted!

Seriously though, it is ironic that all the Reform-ers have managed to make people more embarrassed about the flag, not less. I saw someone on social media panicking about the same thing because they wore an england top to the gym because they are big supporters of women's football.

Chenecinquantecinq · 12/10/2025 13:21

Dear Lord get a grip people of course it's not racist. Honestly beggars belief 🙄

Catwalking · 12/10/2025 13:26

I’m really tempted to get a pair of those, thanks for showing them 👍👍
I’m old so i don’t care what most people think anymore 😆

Mostly in Northern Ireland. Some of them really hate the British.

Shegotanology · 12/10/2025 13:30

in the political climate that we're living in, no, I wouldn't wear them.

LeftieRightsHoarder · 12/10/2025 13:31

Zhu · 12/10/2025 10:10

If we overreact like this to every sight of a flag, the the racists have won. We need to normalise it in non-racist situations, like being on the side of a welly. I think you’re fine.

I agree.

Psychologymam · 12/10/2025 12:46

Why would you think I made it up?!

Because I'm a highly suspicious character.🧐

Would they be racist or xenophobic though.

Dragonasaurus · 12/10/2025 13:33

In 2012 everything had a Union Jack on it - sometimes designed with flowers or fruit, they were pretty! I really wish we could just get back to recognising both the Union Jack and the flag of St George as flags associated with a country, not an extreme political view held by a minority of people. I’d wear them, and tell anyone speaking as though I support Reform that I absolutely don’t!

You can only feel how you allow yourself to feel! If you think that way about the flag of your own country then that's on you.
