Does wearing these make me look like a racist ….

I bought these as cheap practical wellies for the winter… fit well. But just put them on for a country walk with friends and the union jacks feel v prominent and with all the flag loonies making me worry about the message I am sending. https://www.argos.co.uk/product/tuc146088210?rec=PDP%5Btuc145899740%5D:attLightbox:extras:ARE:xsell:tuc146088210:YJYTGDGaZVn8xtAXUEAL not worn yet… click and collect so easy to take back. Considered just colouring the flag in . I can’t believe I’m feeling this way but would hate to make anyone feel intimidated.

taken them off and will wear other shoes. What would you do. A bit annoyed by it tbh having our flag stolen by these people.

As a foreigner ooving in uk - I like these wellies and would totally wear them. I have few items (umbrella etc) with union jack - i don't think this makes me pro-reform or whatever they calm themselves these days

MsTamborineMan · 12/10/2025 10:25

No, it looks like a logo not a flag. If they were spice girls Union jackesque then I might but not a small gold logo

BunnyLake · 12/10/2025 10:28

I had some workmen in the house recently and realised one of the coffees I made was in a union jack mug. I decided to change the mug as I wasn’t sure if it would give out a political message (the mug is ancient from when my son was young and was into flags). I’ll probably throw the mug away as it seems a loaded visual nowadays (I’m not a Reform voter or a Brexiteer).

The boots are discreet and don’t look like a political statement.

I have a dream that one day... they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the flag upon their wellies.

MidnightPatrol · 12/10/2025 10:33

A lot of people have collectively lost their minds.

Justgorgeous · 12/10/2025 10:33

How are you racist ? What ? It’s a pair of wellies.

Leavesfalling · 12/10/2025 10:34

MidnightPatrol · 12/10/2025 10:33

A lot of people have collectively lost their minds.

Agreed. We have debased ourselves. And now we fret about a flag on a welly.

Psychologymam · 12/10/2025 10:38

I grabbed an umbrella that someone had left in my house racing to do school run… tiny flag on it that I actually hadn’t noticed but some guy made a comment to me passing basically saying well done for the umbrella, he agreed with it and would be voting accordingly. I realised when I got home - mortified.

MayaPinion · 12/10/2025 10:44

No, they’re fine. Lots of Minis have union flags on them and I wouldn’t see them as racist either. If your wellies were white with a big Red Cross on them that would be a different matter 😁

I was too quick.there.

tartyflette · 12/10/2025 10:46

Well, the logo is black and gold, not the iconic red, white and blue. (Which would really stand out on a pair of wellies. )
I think they (and you) are fine.

Privateschoolprobz · 12/10/2025 10:48

I don’t think they make you look like a racist, but I sadly understand what you mean and couldn’t wear them myself.

carmak · 12/10/2025 10:49

A Sharpie would get rid or dull that down.

MidnightPatrol · 12/10/2025 10:50

Are you (flag feathers?) going to recoil in horror every time you see a Union Jack in public now then, regardless of the context?

You’re going to find the UK a very scary place, given the flag appears on clothing, food products, vehicles, outside schools and universities, council buildings etc etc.

Yes better send them back. And anyone else who has racist wellies, throw them away quickly before Other People judge you. I've got a racist union jack biscuit tin so I will burn it (discreetly in the dead of night.)

AmusedBouched · 12/10/2025 10:51

Holluschickie · 12/10/2025 10:06

I am brown and I wouldn't give a shit about your wellies. As long as you werent shouting or intimidating me.

My exact sentiments

Slightyamusedandsilly · 12/10/2025 10:52

I think they're naf in general. Whatever the decal is, it's not attractive.

Please can I eat the racist biscuits inside though before you burn the tin???

FluffytheGoldfish · 12/10/2025 10:53

Would not take a chance on them in Glasgow, not willing to align myself with either side of the stupid football excuses for sectarianism. Nevermind dealing with others opinions on Scotland/UK.

Fluffyholeysocks · 12/10/2025 10:53

Please don't think the union flag on products makes you racist. Many products 'made in Britain' have the flag on them and we need to support our manufacturers and producers.

Agreed. Awful that people feel like this.

onwardsup4 · 12/10/2025 10:53

Pathetic 🤭

Justgorgeous · 12/10/2025 10:54

Lalgarh · 12/10/2025 10:12

No. But it's really sweet and kind of you that you actually consider this, and it's appreciated.

Have a lovely time!

Appreciated by who and for what reason ?

Starwomanwaiting · 12/10/2025 10:56

I personally would never wear one. But then my dad calls it the “butcher’s apron” to give you some idea of how we view it in our gaff. To me and many others it’s a symbol of colonialism and has far right connotations. This enrages reform types which is funny because reform are far-right but seem to pretend they are not, even though they are literally headed by someone who is not only a well documented racist but actually sang hitler youth songs at school.

So yeah I’d get another pair.

hididdlyho · 12/10/2025 10:57

The question is do you really care about people who are stupid enough to think they 'know what a racist looks like'? Labelling someone a racist based on them wearing a tiny flag on some wellies, rather than something they've said or done is absolutely batshit behaviour!
