Talking of double-breasted jackets ...

Princess Anne unveiled a portrait of the King at the Scottish Parliament today, wearing the outfit shown above in the thread. The official photos also showed her when she unveiled a portrait of the Queen in 2011. She's wearing an interesting jacket which starts double-breasted but tapers to a single button. Also what looks like a very nice brooch though I can't see it properly.

That jacket looks interesting, very form fitting. She looks like she's laughing at Bro, though!

It does!

Thought I probably should post the official portrait too - apparently he's wearing the King Charles III tartan

I like that he always wears a pocket silk and a little flower in the button hole.

I think Anne looks like a very strict, unfashionable school mistress back in the 1950s/1960s.

I wish she would change her style a bit.

Maireas · 27/09/2025 08:48

Not going to happen. Not while everything still fits.

I imagine Anne's formal meets she has a bit of a strict teacher vibe, although she seems great fun amongst family and friends, she and Zara are often the ones really laughing in the more candid shots.
She has as we know worn the same style and actual clothes most of her adult life. She won't change now!

The YouTube algorithms are feeding me jewels Grin I had this pop up earlier, I think some of the narrative is (putting it politely) a bit of a stretch, but I thought some of you might appreciate the sparkly things...

Yes, I think that ship has well and truly sailed!

I think that, at least in her younger days, Anne genuinely was a bit of a fashionista. Perhaps it's because it's an era I only know from photographs, but she seems to have enjoyed wearing a real variety of outfits, to have embraced the trends of the time more wholeheartedly than the younger royals do today and to have made more daring choices. From that fairytale princess birthday photoshoot onwards, the photographic record suggests she had fun playing around with her look and she was certainly good at posing for the camera. Some of her choices look… outlandish today, but were presumably both classy and cool at the time.

Just because double breasted jackets have had a hard time on here lately and because we joke about Anne’s never-changing hairstyle and enduring skirt suits, here she is with her hair down, looking almost sultry in a short double-breasted coat.

No Kate at the rugby final? Or is it William who's the patron rather than her?

I don’t think William was there either. He’s patron of the WRU though, not the English RU.

I thought Kate or William would be at the Women’s Rugby World Cup Final.
Was there no Royal attendee ?
A Gloucester or a Kent ?
Mike Tindall or Zara ?
Peter Phillips ?
Bad form.

The Tindalls were there. Catherine went to one of the earlier matches against Australia

Leti in Egypt. Wearing a very full skirted guipure lace dress and low heeled nude slingbacks.
It's a nice, formal look, without being too heavy or fussy.

I like the shoes and the belted style, but the fabric puts me in mind of a doily, unfortunately 🤷‍♀️

deeahgwitch · 28/09/2025 15:46

I’m glad the Tindalls were there . It was the Final.

Maireas · 28/09/2025 15:52

Yes, it's a bit stiff in the skirt area as well, puts me in mind of my First Holy Communion dress!
She carries it well, though.
She and Felipe made an evening trip to the pyramids.

I do like that rich, jewel shade of blue. The same low heeled sling backs in silver, with a silver Magrit clutch.
Leti looks different there, but it could just be the pictures.

OP posts:
RockaLock · 28/09/2025 16:29

The Tindalls were at the rugby on a corporate jolly though, I think… There are threads about the non-attendance of the royal English RFU patron (or indeed of any royal in any official capacity), so I’ll say no more here!

I love that deep blue colour on Leti.

Costume · 28/09/2025 16:48

Queen Letizia’s white dress:
I agree that the skirt is quite stiff. I also think it could do with an extra lining - you can see her legs through it. It wouldn’t matter for most people, but I don’t think it’s right for a royal on formal occasions.

Also, there are threads showing below the hem in several places. They look to be coming from the inside, so the hem of either the dress or its lining. They just might be the flower stamens, which you can see clearly on the left hand side of the photo, in which case I think they should have been trimmed off.

Generally, though, I like it.
