Morning!
A new thread. Autumn beckons, lets hope we get some interesting looks to discuss!

Poor Mary a rose between two thorns indeed.

I think both men can be trusted to behave themselves and talk to women with respect. God knows neither have ever done anything like boast about assaulting women!

Maireas · 02/10/2025 07:39

One of the many privileges of royalty, to meet so many different heads of state and government.
The banquetting room looks beautiful, the flowers and table settings are gorgeous.

I think I would have enjoyed being in Mary’s position at the dinner last night.

Tried to persuade DH he should buy this for me, but he just laughed...

Such a gorgeous tiara. Hope it gets bought by someone who wears it often!

Ohh when I get home from work I must check down the side of the sofa cushions to see if 70k or so has slipped down there 😍😍😍

Cassiope · 02/10/2025 08:47

Thank you @Choux for remembering that I enjoy the flowers! To be perfectly frank I think both those arrangements are a strange hotchpotch. There's no coherence to the choice of flowers and nothing striking about the arrangement. My local florist does better.

The dramatic colours of the one in the long-stemmed bowl are appealing, but there's nothing else good about it.The one in the green glass vase is better in some ways: the chrysanthemums in sombre, dusky colours could have been the nucleus work of an autumnal arrangement with a slightly unusual colour scheme, but weirdly they’ve added very bright blue delphiniums (which wash out the subtle colours of the chrysanths) and some pale violet orchids, which look completely incongruous and are dangling like a pair of floral fangs. The foliage is just eucalyptus and looks very messy, sticking out all over the place.

It's almost as if the brief was to use up whatever blooms were left in the shop before a holiday closure. Very strange.

Cassiope · 02/10/2025 08:49

It was apparently billed as a working dinner, so Fred was be-suited instead of in dress uniform and Mary looked fabulously chic in a cream and black ensemble, with @Maireas's favourite two-tone shoes. I love the long dress coat and high-necked blouse and she easily outclasses the female political leaders (who’re probably on lower budgets, to be fair). Nevertheless I think that both the Icelandic Prime Minister Kristrun Mjoll Frostadottir and EU High Representative Kaja Kallas looked elegant and smart, albeit in a lower key way. The less said about Meloni's cream suit, the better.

Maireas · 02/10/2025 08:54

Thanks, @Cassiope for your take on the flowers. Interesting and informative, as usual. I've had a look again and agree with you about the colours.
Some lovely outfits, Mary does look very chic, as do some of the politicians, such as the Icelandic Premier.

All the different types of people you meet must make life so interesting.

You can go from dinner with Heads of State, who whilst trying to be super careful and polite probably do come out with some interesting tidbits and stories, to a lunch with some school children and their childish excitement about meeting a Princess, to an afternoon at a hospital or hospice where people who are in a terrible personal situation are so pleased to see you and have the chance to talk to you, and then more dinners where politics and diplomacy is the key.

Maireas · 02/10/2025 09:05

I agree, @ARichtGoodDram . So varied and interesting. Soft diplomacy as well.

And if you are Princess Anne you are probably dashing off to a fascinating sewerage plant afterwards!

Maireas · 02/10/2025 09:20

Indeed! Or a bin depot 😊
Although she did look very engaged with Zelensky the other day.

I have to say I wouldn't like being in the public eye but meeting new people from all walks of life all the time would suit me down to the ground. However I'm not sure if I could cope with the dress requirements. But I'm sure they all have lots of help with that.

Or just do a Daisy and Max - go for whatever you fancy!

I've dined with politicians, aristocracy and celebrities. The first are always looking around the room for an opportunity to schmooze and are terminally boring. The second absolutely charming, the third very entertaining . I should add all male. 😂

The honeymoon picture is really lovely 😍.
Some good pics of MT, not much in the large floral attachments on these occasions. Some nice looks from Stephanie as well, particularly in the yellow.

Oh dear. Your local florist does better? The Danish royal house published the pics and said “The Queen has helped select the autumn flowers.” I wonder if it’s a case of no one daring to say her ideas and colour combos weren’t good? We know her MIL is very creative and artistic so perhaps she is trying to become known for her artistry as well.

Mary’s outfit sans coat plus she’s in a magazine. The cover shot seems a bit too Sharon Stone crotch shot for my liking but the outfit is professional and relatable.

On that photo where she’s standing with her arms folded…I thought she had a really long trouser leg at first!!

Maireas · 02/10/2025 17:12

Me too! That's a trip hazard....

KiIIingMeDeftly · 02/10/2025 18:12

Mary enjoys a dramatic pose, doesn't she? I do like her trousers.

deeahgwitch · 02/10/2025 18:15

Mary, like Rania needs to step back from
messing with her face. It’s a very delicate balance to get it right and Mary is teetering, imo.

RomainingCalm · 02/10/2025 18:46

Thanks for sharing the link @KiIIingMeDeftly - great article but yes, it's a grey suit!

BlouseyBrowne · 02/10/2025 18:52

What’s with the dated vertiginous courts? Kate would look SO much better in that suit if she wore a trendier shoe. I’d love to see her in a chunky loafer or brogues.
