Dr Martens in your 50s anyone?

I have a few pairs of converse boots which I love. I have seen women at work wearing DMs- they are a bit younger than me but they look great on.
I am tempted to get some but concerned I would just look daft and that they will shred my feet into bits.
if you have a pair can you tell me what style they are? I quite like the look of the platform ones tbh😬

I love my DM’s. I am 53, and don’t wear any other make. I have 48 various pairs (boots/shoes/sandals etc) and counting !!

SerafinasGoose · 20/09/2025 10:47

Hell, yes. Why on earth not? Velvet ones, leather ones, floral ones, any you like.

I have a number of old pairs that I've had forever - from back in the day when they used to be good quality. I've been disappointed with my last few pairs of docs. The leather has been like cardboard and they're less comfortable and don't wear as well.

The last two pairs of boots I've bought have been Solovair - the original DMs made in their factory but still high quality with lovely, thick leather - and Lanx Chelsea boots, which can be worn as smart or casual, are waterproof, and great for any occasion.

Provided I'm still around I'll be wearing mine until I'm 100. Wear what you love!

Thanks! I am in Lewes 🙂

Lovely little town. I was there last summer when I spent a few weeks working in The Keep archives, and visited a great little antiques fair in what looked like a church hall: picked up a few lovely rings and brooches from there.

(I can't resist Snoopers' Attic in Brighton. I've never been in there and not come out with something)!

It is a lovely town to live in. One of the most expensive council taxes in the uk though 🫣🧐

Well j managed to get to the Brighton store yesterday and was massively underwhelmed with the boots available and the staff.
i tried on a pair of Jaydons- they were fine length wise but like wearing welly boots they were so wide. The assistant had me try the next size down which was also tidy as they were if course far to short in length. They didn’t have the 4160 in my size- a 6 so not exactly uncommon 🧐
The website has a much greater choice.

@BigButtons , did the assistant get you to try insoles? The Covent Garden did with me. In was one size my feet were slopping around, but the next size down was too short. I didn't buy anything. They should offer half sizes IMO.

BigButtons · 04/10/2025 11:15

@UpMyself she suggested it- but didn’t offer any to try . TBH if I am spending £200 on a pair of boots I expect a little more interest from those working in the shop. Would also like more than one style to try.
It is small shop and there were at least 3 assistants hanging around chatting . It took ages for one to eventually amble over. I will try the solovair shop next to get an idea of sizing.

I had a look at my collection of Solovairs yesterday. I need to have a cull!
I'd forgotten about some of them.
I definitely have favourites.

I bought a pair of Solovairs, the mini platform ones, they are absolutely brilliant. I can absolutely understand why a pp has a collection of them. I would if I could afford it! Luckily my boots are so great I only need one pair to get me through the winter. I live in a very rural island location with filthy weather and they are my footwear over the winter. Fantastic boots xxx

Theoturkeyfliesnorthwest · 06/10/2025 04:15

I've got 4 pairs and I'm 52
But I can't wear them
They hurt my feet so badly
The soles are so hard ,I get pain in my heel and in the ball of my feet
I'm hopeful As im on a diet ,I will be able to wear them at some point this winter

Frankblackwife · 06/10/2025 04:20

Too painful. Fly is my friend lol

Frankblackwife · 06/10/2025 04:21

Gave my docs to my sister they did last long tbf

Frankblackwife · 06/10/2025 04:23

Do solovair rip your heels up?

Frankblackwife · 06/10/2025 04:28

I quite like art shoes, have some lovely purple chunky ones. So well made, had them for years still look good (imo tbf)

PerspicaciaTick · 06/10/2025 04:31

I wear DM shoes to work so I look sort of like a policewoman. They are very comfy and allow me to stomp without sounding clippy cloppy.

Frankblackwife · 06/10/2025 04:44

So delightfully, clumpy

Dr Martens in your 50s anyone?
Daughn · 11/10/2025 14:45

Just seen that La Redoute have a sale on DM Pascals 25% off with an extra 10% off if you subscribe.

UpMyself · 11/10/2025 19:04

@Frankblackwife Do solovair rip your heels up? Not mine. Sizing is a bit tricky (I go down a size or a half-size in the unisex boots, usual size in women's shoes) - but they offer a wide range of sizes, from 3 to 14, including half sizes.

Their outlet site is good, you can get factory seconds for half price if you are lucky and quick.

I don't like their vegan shoes.

Barney16 · 11/10/2025 19:13

I'm 60 and wear mine everyday. Have worn them every day for about ten years. Have given instructions to my children that I am to be buried in them.
