Androgynous wedding guest outfit for teen

Dd 14 has a wedding soon and we are struggling to find something both appropriate for the occasion and that she likes.
Her style is very 90’s baggy jeans and crop top/skater girl. She does like to do her hair and make up and wear jewellery so it’s not she isn’t “girly” in her own way she’s just very much not a long floaty dress girl.
We’ve tried pretty much every playsuit/skort available to buy in the uk it feels like but none were right.
she likes the look of a woman’s suit/tie and while I want her to be comfortable and feel like herself it’s a very traditional wedding with lots of old relatives and none of the the ones we have seen are quite right and I know she’d be p*ssed with people constantly commenting on her being dressed “like a boy” (please don’t make the whole thread about this comment I know what I mean)
Can anyone find the holy grail of something edgy and cool but also appropriate for this kind of wedding?

Budget?

Waistcoats are in fashion for women, so I would go for wide legged trousers, a blouse with some broderie anglaise and a waistcoat and trainers or DMs. Ultimately, she has to feel comfortable, and if the bride and groom are good with it, it doesn't matter what old aunty Aggy thinks.

What about something from Lucy and Yak

grown45 · 27/08/2025 15:00

I hadn’t really thought of one. Nothing ridiculous but I don’t mind spending up to a few hundred if she’s happy and comfortable (I was also like her as a teen and still scarred by what my mum used to force me into) I should also add she’s tall and thin.

A tailored trouser suit in a nice colour, with a top instead of a shirt and tie? Comfortable, fits her vibe but less likely to get ‘boy’ comments

Check out Reiss

Or head to selfridges

Urban Outfitters has lots of skater-y stuff, some girly, some not ....

this dress is v cool, although maybe too casual

this pinafore dress might work with a t-shirt underneath

a businesslike shirtdress from H&M

Weekday (formerly Monki, part of H&M group) might have some possibilities

My daughter is similar in terms of what makes her comfy. Pretty top with wide leg trousers, and maybe a head band with hair left loose and free? You could search some 90s boho images, as that might align better with a skater vibe in terms of silhouette and also the sensory experience.

@grown45

A few ideas here

Gymbunny2025 · 27/08/2025 15:09

My daughter is similar. She reluctantly wore a jumpsuit (which I loved!) but for 99% of wedding she wore a hoodie over the top!

Silverbirchleaf · 27/08/2025 15:10

Or this (I’m referring to whole image) ?

Pretty blue colour.

Wide, slouchy linen trousers and a waistcoat. There are lots of these around at the moment.

This. Dark wide-leg trousers, pretty top. My DD would love that (and would hate a dress).

I can’t imagine anything being less appealing to a 90s skater girl type teen than Lucy and Yak 🤣

Try Zara or Mango, maybe.

I know you said no dresses but would she not like something a little more punk rock skater chick? This is something I definitely would have worn as a teen x
I like the full length jumpsuit with a cool top underneath too
