Androgynous wedding guest outfit for teen

Dd 14 has a wedding soon and we are struggling to find something both appropriate for the occasion and that she likes.
Her style is very 90’s baggy jeans and crop top/skater girl. She does like to do her hair and make up and wear jewellery so it’s not she isn’t “girly” in her own way she’s just very much not a long floaty dress girl.
We’ve tried pretty much every playsuit/skort available to buy in the uk it feels like but none were right.
she likes the look of a woman’s suit/tie and while I want her to be comfortable and feel like herself it’s a very traditional wedding with lots of old relatives and none of the the ones we have seen are quite right and I know she’d be p*ssed with people constantly commenting on her being dressed “like a boy” (please don’t make the whole thread about this comment I know what I mean)
Can anyone find the holy grail of something edgy and cool but also appropriate for this kind of wedding?

Reiss have tons of smart suit like jumpsuits which are a) on sale and b) met with approval from my equally less inclined to dress up daughter.
I did make the argument that it's handy to have one smart outfit for stuff you have to do but isn't your usual style whether it's a wedding or a funeral so something plainish you can dress up is really handy.

I would search "Co ord, wedding guest". Coords are nice because they look very put together but are quite androgenous in the sense that they aren't a dress and resemble a suit a bit more with trousers and top. I saw lots of good things when I searched this, have attatched one example.

Another vote for the Zara outfit 👍

@grownZara or Mango for starters. I’d say trousers and a modern no sleeve jacket (looks like a waistcoat). No to a tie. That would invite comments. Attached are Zara. All perfect.

A friend of mine bought a lovely navy trouser and waistcoat set from Guess for her dd16 for prom. It looked really cool.

Silverbirchleaf · 28/08/2025 16:27

Gorgeous colour.

No idea why Zara images remain under review!!! Come on MN - they are pictures of trouser/jackets combinations. What’s the issue?

Skule · 28/08/2025 17:56

Probably best going for a glam version of the baggy trousers and cropped top combo that she likes.

These matching wide trouser and top co-ords from Zara are dressed up enough for a wedding, but still easy to wear

Thank you everyone, I promise I’m looking at all options and really appreciate the input.
The Zara options and next jumpsuits are definitely along the right lines, the disturbia and hell bunny things are missing the mark slightly. She’s not really into anything goth or metal she’s more indie/skater chick.
I think the tailored trousers and waistcoat are the way to go or a jumpsuit with the same vibe. It’s just trying to find the perfect one now!

Please let us know what she chooses. I'm invested in this thread now!

(and trying not to buy any of it for myself since it's all so gorgeous)

My daughter is younger (12 but super tall) but went to a recent wedding in a pinstripe jumpsuit, blazer and sequin converse she looked fab. Can't find a link but think the jumpsuit was
h and m and the blazer zara

Ellaone · 28/08/2025 18:47

Have you checked out free people? After you’re update there’s a plethora of jumpsuits in there that might be up her street

ScruffyTrouserMindFlip · 28/08/2025 20:16

This sort of vibe.

I hadn’t really thought of one. Nothing ridiculous but I don’t mind spending up to a few hundred if she’s happy and comfortable (I was also like her as a teen and still scarred by what my mum used to force me into) I should also add she’s tall and thin.

How many hundred?
How much are you spending on your own outfit?
Is this your normal budget?

TizerorFizz · 28/08/2025 20:43

@grown45 Are teens wearing jump suits though? Very awkward in loos! Waists are often in the wrong place if you are tall. I think separates make more sense and are more fashionable for a teen.

Have a look at deadly is the female, very 50s vintage cool style
I was also like your daughter in my teens and my dd is the same x
