Which clothes retailer going bust would you be most affected by?

I’m not sure as the last ten items I bought were all from different places, but maybe that is the challenge for retailers these days, they have lost their identities and with it their loyalty and clear customer base.

Potentially Next. Turns out I could easily live without M&S.

M&S. Get basically all my kids’ clothes there, from underwear to jumpers and school wear etc.

Ownerofbagpuss · 19/08/2025 19:25

Seasalt & the White Stuff for me. Also both have a great official eBay selling site with good discounts.

PrincessofWells · 19/08/2025 19:34

If Toast went I'd be on trouble. I used to buy from Cos but our local store went and the online service is awful so that's it really.

I buy from Vinted but hardly anything this year.

missrabbit1990 · 19/08/2025 19:55

Would have said Next but l am now boycotting them due to the boss funding resources for the IDF and it’s been easy to adjust. Possibly M&S. I mostly shop on Vinted anyway

I lived in Oasis clothes, really struggled when it shut.

I’ve no idea how Oasis and Warehouse went bust. I too was literally dressed head to toe; 75% Oasis and 25% Warehouse.

Same here! The online stuff is OK, but I miss the shops.
I still miss TopShop, and I know they’re coming back but it’s not the same.
I’d miss Zara although I will say their summer offering this year wasn’t great.
Obviously M and S in a British institution and must be protected at all costs.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 19/08/2025 21:34

I wouldn't miss any of the shops mentioned other than M & S food hall, John Lewis for perfume and possibly Cos. Most of the rest I've never bought anything from. I buy underwear from M & S but Tu and George at Asda are just as good.

I would miss Palava dreadfully if they went bust. I'd also miss Oska, Klements, Sister Jane, Colenimo, Max Mara and this local shop.

Nowhere. I have no brand loyalty

Totally! Warehouae was my fave shop for a night out or date outfit or even some lovely jumpers for work. I still have some of them. Quality was fab.

Rainallnight · 19/08/2025 22:21

I would be bereft if Cos went.

I’m still mourning the loss of Oasis and Warehouse to be honest. Struggled to find my shopping vibe ever since.

Same here

willowstar · 20/08/2025 03:50

Boden. I love the shirts and most of my work dresses and trousers come from there.

StarlightLady · 20/08/2025 07:12

Bravissimo.

babylone · 20/08/2025 15:26

I was sad when Banana republic disappeared from the uk. It was great for workwear

Nitgel · 20/08/2025 16:48

Banana republic and gap. New Gap is awful quality.

Cherrysoup · 20/08/2025 18:57

Next is currently dominating my wardrobe, but I’ve had to re-buy everything due to (very welcome) weightloss, so I have a mad variety of brands from mostly Vinted. Most of my work suits are Next, they are insanely cheap on there.

Gowlett · 20/08/2025 21:25

I miss GAP as well, still have loads of their old stuff.
And I miss good quality & prices at Benetton, too…

Next online sell Gap now.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 21/08/2025 08:29

M&S. I’ve worn their bras for 40 years.

WishSheWouldGoAway · 21/08/2025 08:31

I only buy knickers from M and S so that would be a problem.

Haven't bought from Next for years. H&M is poor quality

I guess Hobbs.

luckylavender · 21/08/2025 08:35

M&S

John Lewis

AMiddleClassWomanOfACertainAge · 21/08/2025 09:49

I'd miss Brora I the most I think. I am normally a sale shopper there, buying wow (to me) pieces that last for ages and do not date quickly (I have just avoided buying some barrel leg trousers in their clearance as I am not sure the cost per wear will be justified as I can't see the trend lasting much longer).

I then buy my basics from a variety of places and am not particularly loyal as to where from. The items I buy from Brora generally get a positive comment whenever I wear them, including from strangers. In particular I have a green midi skirt that has been on rotation this summer and every time I wear it someone comments on it. The skirt was £65 reduced from something horrendous and I pair it with a £8 t-shirt from Matalan.

I have pushed the boat out this morning though and ordered some full price boots as I wanted them now rather than risk the sale in January 😊

I mourn the loss of Oasis and Warehouse too, my work wardrobe used to be sourced from there many moons ago, still have some Warehouse shell tops on the go, never found anything quite right as a replacement to-date
