Which clothes retailer going bust would you be most affected by?

I’m not sure as the last ten items I bought were all from different places, but maybe that is the challenge for retailers these days, they have lost their identities and with it their loyalty and clear customer base.

Potentially Next. Turns out I could easily live without M&S.

Probably M&S or John Lewis as I tend to get most of the DCs school uniform from there (and DS doesn't wear school uniform but likes their coloured t-shirts that are in the school uniform range).
But also Uniqlo, H&M and of all of those DS who is more fussy and I (probably ditto) buy most from Uniqlo.

PInkyStarfish · 18/08/2025 12:23

Probably Fairfax and Favour as I don’t just buy for myself but they’re great for gifts for my daughter and stepdaughters etc.

CatAsstrophe · 18/08/2025 12:26

Toast.

I hope it never happens!

Primark/ George@asda

I’m still mourning the loss of Oasis and Warehouse to be honest. Struggled to find my shopping vibe ever since.

Are they gone? Or just online now?

UnimaginableWindBird · 18/08/2025 12:38

M&S. Or Snag for underwear.

CarpeVitam · 18/08/2025 12:38

M&S

White Stuff

The shops all closed a few years ago and the brand got bought by an online company, but it’s nowhere near the same kind of stuff. In name only.

Wendywooooo · 18/08/2025 12:39

FatFace did go bust I think, Next purchased them, about the same time they acquired Joules. Wouldn't surprise me if they get rid of some shops eventually, however they do tend to be in smaller towns where Next aren't which could be their saving grace.

Ted Baker going was a blow for me personally, had loads from there, I know they are back online but it's not the same.

River Island are teetering on the edge of oblivion, and while I think i'm at the older end of their customer base, still get quite a bit from there. Would miss it for sure but would expect the brand to be purchased even if the physical stores aren't. Would leave gaping holes in many shopping centres though

I'm so behind the times. Yeh just had a look at the website, not the same at all.

heartsinvisiblefury · 18/08/2025 12:42

H&M

EnglishGirlApproximately · 18/08/2025 12:45

Probably H&M. Not just for me but also DS, it's one of the few places that cater to tall younger teens! He's only 13 so wants clothes aimed at teens but at 5'8 he's moved into adult clothing in most shops.

Hughs · 18/08/2025 12:45

Uniqlo. I reckon I could happily only shop there and nowhere else. Maybe undies would come from elsewhere, I haven’t tried Uniqlo’s.

Mikart · 18/08/2025 12:45

Next. About the only place doing tall clothes

whirlyhead · 18/08/2025 12:47

Zara but I live in Spain and I reckon the clothes here are better than in England zara. Would also miss H&M - no point in buying lovely expensive clothes here as the sun destroys them!

TooManyCupsAndMugs · 18/08/2025 12:47

H&M and New Look. NL is the only place I could get wide leg jeans to fit that were a decent price. I like Tu as well and if I find FatFace and Mantaray that fit in charity shops, I tend to buy.

Hughs · 18/08/2025 12:49

Actually, not sure if this counts but probably 85% of my clothes now come from Vinted so I would be gutted if that ceased to exist. I suppose there’s always Depop and eBay.

I'm about the same actually - perhaps not quite 85% - but I am very choosy what I buy on there and mostly tend to buy things I know/recognise or at least where I know the brand, to reduce mistake buys.

Trousers are a particular issue for me to buy unseen, so I have decided for those I need to stick to buying new. Jeans are M&S, but where I can easily identify them I've been sizing down via Vinted.

catsareace · 18/08/2025 14:03

Cos and Beyond Nine. I’m very fussy about fabrics on my skin and can’t tolerate any pressure on my stomach from trousers so BN saved me from a lifetime of skirts & dresses.

fiorentina · 18/08/2025 14:17

The wider H&M group as most of my clothes are from Cos, Other Stories, H&M.

But also Uniqlo for basics.

DancingNotDrowning · 18/08/2025 14:27

Gut reaction is M&S without a doubt but I’ve just checked my ten most recent purchases and it’s:

Forever New
Phase Eight
Sister Jane
Frame
Net a Porter x 2
Second Female
Suncoo
H&M x 2

but I still feel M&S would be a loss

Passthecake30 · 18/08/2025 15:30

Definitely Next - I’d say 95%+ of my clothes are from their tall range as Long Tall Sally has gone to shit since Very took over.

LavenderBlue19 · 18/08/2025 15:36

Next, mainly because their jeans fit me well. But I can usually find something I like, and their children's clothes are very good quality.

I'd also really miss New Look and Fat Face. Oh and Simply Be! They have the odd gem.

afaloren · 18/08/2025 15:36

Asos. I buy almost all my clothes from there.
