There is a 1950s romantic drama called Desiree, featuring Jean Simmons as the eponymous heroine and an utterly gorgeous Marlon Brando as Napoleon. It's probably on shaky grounds historically but their acting elevates it. It's occasionally on the BBC on a weekend afternoon.

Edited

I remember watching that as a teenager. Jean Simmons is fabulous, and Brando is Brando!

Maireas · 14/07/2025 21:05

@Lunde , what's your take on @Cassiope 's idea about CPV's dress? She thinks it's a nod to Swedish national dress, which is interesting (upthread).

i haven’t heard the word “Jakers” in a long long time. 😀
Do you have Irish connections @justasking111?

CPV dress makes me wonder if it was bespoke, and added the pink bit to the length.

Yes, I don't like the pink frill at the bottom. I think it would look better without.

I quite like it. But then I'm in the Erdem camp! 😁

Maireas · 14/07/2025 22:00

Of course! The Erdem Division!

I can’t believe I’m writing this given my irrational dislike of a double breasted jacket, but Daniel’s jacket today is not a good look 😬 I’m giving him a pass for the double breasted from now on 😆

@Cassiope it's interesting that you get that vibe from Victoria's dress, I hadn't noticed that. I wonder if there is a nod to national dress? Daniel has definitely gone down the conservative route. I like Silvia's outfit.

@Maireas ! Did you just use the phrase “ a nod to”?! 😁

TwerkingRoyalNotWorkingRoyal · 14/07/2025 22:09

This is the tiara I was thinking of, that Ingrid brought with her to Denmark and which was worn by each of her daughters for their weddings, and some younger royal women, too, for theirs. It now belongs to Anne-Marie.

The book Desiree by Selinko was a favourite of mine as a teen. A good read! I loved it when suddenly Mary turned up in her tiara.

As a teen, I, too, loved Desiree by Annemarie Selinko. The movie some posters mention above is based on this historical novel.

The double breasted jacket debate continues...as divisive as espadrilles and Erdem!

That's an absolute beauty, isn't it? Cartier of course. That was one generous Khedive.
Plus; look at that stonking aquamarine necklace!

Camilla visiting Battersea dogs and cats home today, where she didn’t appear to mind dogs jumping up her and licking her handbag.

I like the embroidery detail on the hem and cuffs.

Also, is that a Battersea brooch (badge?) she’s wearing?

I think it's a Van Cleef & Arpels IIRC. It's a little dog!

The Khedive tiara features in the Royal Jewels programme I linked previously. Tiaras look so much more beautiful in motion with all the light bouncing off the diamonds. It really is such a pretty piece.
