How often do you wash your hair?

My hair is the type to get greasy quick - as in the next day. If I spend along time using products and blow drying it properly (1+ hours) and using dry shampoo, I can get about 4 days out of it max. I work with someone who washes their hair one a week, doesn’t use dry shampoo and their hair looks normal and nice every day. I’m curious how often others wash it? And yes I have tried to train my hair - doesn’t work

When I was younger, every day. Into my 30s, alternate days. During Covid, hardly ever. Now it’s once a week and I can only tell wash day by how frizzy it is afterwards.

I was also an every other day but since the menopause, I'm now twice a week.

Ddakji · 01/07/2025 19:22

Every 2-3 days. It’s curly, going grey and I use a lot of product. Rarely blow dry it.

Kamek · 01/07/2025 19:22

Every day

Comedycook · 01/07/2025 19:23

Once a week. It must be straightened and blow dried so I need to limit the amount of heat damage hence why once a week. Plus it takes ages

This
One of the benefits of being post menopausal. Thankfully mine takes ten minutes to blow dry - tops.

Every day. I hate the feeling of not having clean hair.

BendingSpoons · 01/07/2025 19:24

Every day. I feel it needs every 1.5 days but that doesn't work for my routine. Luckily my hair is otherwise low maintenance, so I wash it and let it air dry.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/07/2025 19:24

Every other day. It’s fine straight hair, so any greasiness makes it lank. I can sometimes stretch to 3 days now.

Newlysinglemumma · 01/07/2025 19:25

Every day! I like volume and I feel like when I don’t wash it every day it sticks to my head

Chasingaces · 01/07/2025 19:25

About every 4/5 days as my hair is very thick and takes ages (like 4+hours) to dry and I don’t like drying it out with heat…

Cattery · 01/07/2025 19:26

Every day in the shower

stargazer02 · 01/07/2025 19:26

Everyday. My hair is really fine.

If I wash my hair at night it looks crap by lunchtime the following day. I tried all sorts over COVID in an attempt to reset so I only have to wash every other day or even less, but it didn't work.

henlake7 · 01/07/2025 19:26

Every 5-7 days. It didnt need tons of washing when I was younger but now I have lovely perimenopausal frizzy straw on my head?
(I once left it 10 days and was depressed to find it somehow became greasy whilst still maintaining the texture of frizzy straw!).

TerrorAustralis · 01/07/2025 19:27

Every day. My hair is fine, thin and greasy. I look like a homeless drug addict if I go more than 24 hours without washing. Actually, just sleeping on it is enough (I’ve tried washing before bed, it looks horrendous by the next afternoon.)

People don’t understand. They say dumb stuff like your hair is addicted to washing or if you wash it less often, it will somehow get used to it and produce less oil. Believe me, I’ve tried.

Icanttakethisanymore · 01/07/2025 19:27

I used to wash it every day but now I use a sulphate free shampoo / conditioner about once a week and a co-wash half way through the week. My hair is fine and wavy.

pizzaHeart · 01/07/2025 19:28

Every other day generally. If I don’t have anything particular important I can do washing after 2 days.
If I have special occasions 2 days in a row - every day.
On a beach holiday - every day.

CrushingOnRubies · 01/07/2025 19:28

Every 36-48 hours depending what I am doing , what I’ve done. Used to be every day because naturally I have done lank hair but since dying it, the moisture has been sucked out which has helped with the volume and greasiness

AKAanothername · 01/07/2025 19:30

Twice a week, usually Friday and Monday mornings. Rarely use a hairdryer just leave it to dry naturally, will very occasionally run the straighteners through it if I'm going out somewhere special.

PortiaWithNoBreaks · 01/07/2025 19:31

Every day for me and blow dried (Dyson). I hate the feeling of unclean scalp. I couldn’t clean myself in the shower and not clean my scalp.

Parker231 · 01/07/2025 19:32

Once a week. Let it air dry. It’s very curly so can stick it into a messy bun even if it’s not fully dry. Never use a hair dryer or heating element tools.

BitOutOfPractice · 01/07/2025 19:33

Twice a week. I have a subscription at a blow dry bar. Yes I know that’s frivolous and I don't care.

ForZanyAquaViewer · 01/07/2025 19:33

I co-wash about once a week and use a clarifying shampoo about once a month. I’m Black and our hair tends to be much much drier than Caucasian hair, and has very different needs. Lots of conditioning, lots of oils, lots of protective styling.

Turquoisa80 · 01/07/2025 19:34

Every 4 days, I'm trying to stretch it to a week but I also have dandruff. I don't use conditioner and my hair stays okay
