How often do you wash your hair?

My hair is the type to get greasy quick - as in the next day. If I spend along time using products and blow drying it properly (1+ hours) and using dry shampoo, I can get about 4 days out of it max. I work with someone who washes their hair one a week, doesn’t use dry shampoo and their hair looks normal and nice every day. I’m curious how often others wash it? And yes I have tried to train my hair - doesn’t work

Every day, and sometimes twice if going out in the evening on a hot day. I like to be clean from top to bottom to start the day.

Topseyt123 · 01/07/2025 19:36

Every day. I never blow-dry it either as I don't like the heat from them and can't be arsed. Just brush it and leave it to air dry.

Once a week now. During Covid-times I switched from using normal shampoo and conditioner to using a shampoo bar (no conditioner). My hair now air-dries a lot quicker and doesn't get greasy looking between washes. But, I don't live in a city, so my hair doesn't get dirty from outside grime and pollution, which probably also makes a difference.

When I was younger and had hair that didn't need blow drying, it was every other day. But my post menopausal hair and hairstyle is much better for only being washed every five days or so. I'd love to be able to go a whole week, but it does feel a bit sticky after five days.

Honestly, you’re not alone! My hair sounds exactly like yours – gets greasy the very next day no matter what I do. I’ve tried all the tricks: "training" it, sulfate-free shampoos, ACV rinses, silk pillowcases… nothing seems to change my scalp’s oil production.
Some people just naturally produce less oil – I have a friend like your colleague who washes once a week and always looks fresh. Genetics really do play a big role.
What’s helped me a little bit:
Double shampooing (washing twice in the same shower, focusing on scalp)
Using a clarifying shampoo once a week to get rid of buildup
Switching to lighter conditioners and only applying it to the ends
Dry shampoo overnight instead of in the morning (gives it time to absorb oil before it appears)
But honestly... I’ve just accepted that for my hair type, every other day (or max every 2 days) is realistic.
Don’t beat yourself up over it! Not all scalps are the same.

Twice a week, put it in a head towel for ages, then drag a brush through it and let it air dry- laziness has made me like this, when I was much younger it was every other day. Someone complimented me on shiny hair and what products did I use?!!!! Nothing expensive!!

Pinkseashellsonthesand · 01/07/2025 19:38

Every 3 days.
Fine, thin, no volume unless freshly blown dry with product.
Summers heat, wind and humidity does my hair no favours.

Figgygal · 01/07/2025 19:39

Usually every other day if wfh push it another day but is super greasy by that third day

StMarie4me · 01/07/2025 19:40

Once a week. It does not get greasy. It gets drier and drier and I wash it to put moisture back in it. I have very dry skin too.

gingercat02 · 01/07/2025 19:41

Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday evening, Friday.
If I'm going out ot will be evening rather than morning. Wednesday is because I exercise after work.
If I'm off work most days as I swim and exercise more.

aludone · 01/07/2025 19:41

Every 2–3 days.

MsNevermore · 01/07/2025 19:42

Every 4-5 days.
I live in an extremely dry climate.
I’m currently on Day 5 and will need to wash it later today.

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 01/07/2025 19:42

Yeah, I'm daily too, unfortunately. Thin , limp and greasy otherwise.
I've tried training it (doesn't work)😪

Flamingoknees · 01/07/2025 19:42

3 times a week usually. I try to time it with swims. What is "co-wash" please?

qwerty36 · 01/07/2025 19:43

1-2 x a week.

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 01/07/2025 19:43

Fine, but thick hair. I've washed it every day since my teens, decades now!

BitOutOfPractice · 01/07/2025 19:33

Twice a week. I have a subscription at a blow dry bar. Yes I know that’s frivolous and I don't care.

Is that in the UK?

YellowGrey · 01/07/2025 19:45

Once a week and it dries naturally.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 01/07/2025 19:47

Most days, it’s thin and greasy and I’m at the gym a lot! It’s grim if I leave it more than 2 days without washing!

Deadcog · 01/07/2025 19:47

Short, spiked up with product and shaved at the sides - I wash it pretty much every day.

Using conditioner only. If you have dry hair and scalp it can really work. It does for me and people compliment me on my shiny hair regularly.

DramaAlpaca · 01/07/2025 19:50

Every day, during my morning shower. I can't stand not having clean hair.

nahthatsnotforme · 01/07/2025 19:51

Every day, same as the rest of me

Trueloveneverdies · 01/07/2025 19:51

Every day! I was a bridesmaid and the hairdresser told me not to wash my hair before she styled it. I told her I have to wash it every day - she said no it will be fine. When I got there in the morning she washed it 🤣

silentlyleavetheirlife · 01/07/2025 19:52

Once or twice a week
