Unpopular opinion - Birkenstocks

I know this is going to be an incredibly unpopular opinion and I’m going to be very alone with this view, but….

Am I the only person who doesn’t really like the Birkenstock sandals? I think the trend is for “Dad sandals” as I’ve seen someone refer to Chanel ones like this too. I’m just not a fan of the chunky look of them and prefer something more daintier I guess..

Appreviate no one is gonna agree with me 😂 I am aware they’re probs very comfy.

They're hideously ugly things.

Caspianberg · 30/05/2025 13:02

I have been wearing Birkenstocks for about 20 years. They are the most comfortable to walk in and not give blisters

i wouldn’t by shoes by a trend, but by comfort

Saltysea2001 · 30/05/2025 13:03

You are entitled to your opinion. I imagine lots of people won’t like your clothes either.

Peridot1 · 30/05/2025 13:03

Well the world would be a very boring place if we all liked the same things. I love them and wear them all the time. My mother would be horrified. She would hate them.

I do like dainty sometimes but for day to day I love Birkenstocks.

It’s ok that we all like different things

cheesycheesy · 30/05/2025 13:04

They’re ugly uncomfortable things and never fit me right. Plus make that fart noise when I walk.

DappledThings · 30/05/2025 13:06

I don't think it's an unpopular opinion at all. Doubt you're going to get the fight about it you're trying to pick.

I love them, had two pairs that lasted 10 years each. Then I couldn't find proper sandal ones, only the slip-on type.

Never been under any illusion they are particularly popular or fashionable, certainly very comfortable.

NancyJoan · 30/05/2025 13:06

I enjoy a chunky, slightly ugly sandal. I really dislike a dainty, strappy affair. And that is fine.

MalcolmMoo · 30/05/2025 13:06

They’re so comfortable! In the summer I do all my walks in them miles and miles and they’re so comfy!

RosesAndHellebores · 30/05/2025 13:08

I like the style and have worn similar from Clarkes, Seibel for years. However, Birkies themselves are the wrong shape for my feet and for me are very uncomfortable and the pair I bought rubbed badly.

I love a daintier shoe for special occasions but not necessarily for day to day.

Sunnyday321 · 30/05/2025 13:09

I've had a few pairs over the years but only use them for garden shoes / summer slippers .
I'd never wear them going out as don't think you could safely drive in them .

WinWhenTheyreSinging · 30/05/2025 13:11

Live and die in them in the summer, so apologies if you know me and your eyes bleed looking.😂

Idontjetwashthefucker · 30/05/2025 13:13

I love the look of them but they really hurt my feet, ended up with a few different pairs of Fitflop sandals which are incredibly comfortable. Just wear what you like and what's comfortable 🤷‍♀️

dustygrey · 30/05/2025 13:14

Appreviate no one is gonna agree with me 😂

And this matters because?
Trust me, you're not alone, lots of people dont like them, and lots of people do

HarrietSchulenberg · 30/05/2025 13:23

Well then just don't buy them. I'm not a particular fan of that brand but do like chunky sandals. I detest "dainty" sandals (I even dislike the word "dainty") and find they don't suit most people who wear them.

vinavine · 30/05/2025 13:26

They aren't dainty & there are certain styles I don't like but I like sandals for different purposes & looks.

I have all of the below and plenty of dainty sandals too, why can you only like one option?

This is the style and beauty thread and I’m getting so many passive aggressive responses. Genuinely not trying to pick a fight, just discussion around popular style trends!

@MintChocCat it's a bit weird to start a thread on this board though saying you don't like something. Lots of things I don't like but I don't buy them, it's not that deep!

You are well aware, as everyone is, that lots of people like different things. So the faux naivety of "I genuinely thought I would get hate for expressing a completely mainstream and innocuous opinion" isn't very convincing

PorgyandBess · 30/05/2025 13:31

I love Arizonas and have about 4 pairs. I think they look really nice with short shorts and tanned legs.

The sort of sandals I loathe are those Saltwater flat as a pancake ones. Often worn by jolly types in a jaunty shade. They belong on toddlers. <gavel>

Exactly the same for me

bunnybunnybunnybunny · 30/05/2025 13:33

Occasionally admire them on others, especially their collab with Proenza Schouler.

On me, no, not my thing at all. Also, the foot bed just does not work for my shape feet, so they're incredibly uncomfortable. Lots of other sandals out there I do love and like to wear. indeed, have never lamented the fact Birkenstocks aren't for me!

Mrsbloggz · 30/05/2025 13:34

I'm so drop dead gorgeous that I have to wear ugly Birkenstocks so that people don't hate me too much.

SirChenjins · 30/05/2025 13:36

I have a pair and they look good (imo) with slouchy wide legged linen trousers and a fitted t shirt, but they aren’t comfortable after a period of time. I definitely won’t get another pair.

I gave Saltwater a go after I couldn't find any proper sandal Birkenstocks a few years ago. They are surprisingly comfortable despite the flatness. Mine are an olive green but I would go jauntier another time! I must be a massive contradiction because I'm more of a grumpy type in a jaunty coloured shoe 😂
