How many & what handbags do you have?

Pinkpupsx · 28/05/2025 18:40

I’ve always been a massive handbag lover and used to have a big collection, but in recent years sold them in favour of having only a few with very specific purposes so I know I’ll get use out of them. I hated seeing them sat there unused but still lust over the thought of having lots of gorgeous ones for all different occasions! Let me live vicariously through you by telling me what ones you have and what you use them for - I’ll go first:

Black Longchamp Le Pliage in Large - gift from my partner for my last birthday. Since becoming a mum back in April this has been my daily runaround as I can fit pretty much everything in it. The corners are starting to look tatty already which pisses me off considering it’s still quite an expensive bag!

Mint Velvet Chain Crossbody - i bought this about 4 years ago as it’s a dupe for the Saint Laurent nikki. It’s incredibly tatty and beaten up but has so many compartments and so easy to chuck on. I use this when I don’t need to carry much or want the ease.

Lulu Guinness x Waitrose Shopper - couldn't resist this at the price point and mostly just use it as an overnight bag if I’m going away.

Louis Vuitton Alma BB - a very very generous gift from my partner for my 21st birthday (many moons ago…). I will always love and cherish this bag and plan to pass it on to my daughter when she is old enough to appreciate it.

That’s it. I would like to grow this collection by adding a small crossbody that only fits the absolute essentials, and maybe a nicer overnight/travel bag.

Do people still regularly use hand sanitiser?

I very rarely do. I prefer to wash my hands instead.

Pickled21 · 01/06/2025 08:48

1..large Gucci tote- dh gifted me when I had our first child
2.Mulberry bayswater- dh gifted for the birthday of our second child
3.Ferragamo fiamma gifted when I had our last child
4.YSL loulou gifted when I had our last child by dh
5.Demellier vancouver- birthday present from dh
6.Ateliers auguste Gabriel- I bought myself
7.Michael kors bag red-dh gave me for our first valentines day
8.Michael kors bag tan- my parents bought me when I graduated
9.Guess bag- my mum bought as a gift
10. Radley bag- my sister gave me
11. A satchel bag can be worn crossbody my dh bought me from an independent shop in York (first trip there)

The most sentimental is the one I got from my parents for graduation as it was my first designer bag and they had saved to be able to buy it. It gets used a lot and has really held up well. My favourite is the YSL loulou. The most used currently are the Demellier and Ateliers Auguste.

I'd like
1.Celine 16
2.Celine triomphe
3.Loewe puzzle bag
4.YSL sunset bag
5.Ferragamo hug bag
6.Louis vuitton Alma but I'd like to try on the bb or pm or the speedy in a 25

I do have enough bags though so the wishlist is just that. Having said that I'm going to get the Strathberry mosaic bag in a dark green for myself as a birthday present.

Love this thread.

I don’t have that many bags, only 3!

I’ve got a black leather rucksack from next, which I used as my everyday bag but I was getting annoyed at forever losing my car keys and purse at the bottom of it….

Christmas just gone I got a Le Pilage energy XS to replace bag above as my everyday bag.

My work bag is a Kipling Superworker, which is amazing. It holds so much, nabbed it off eBay for a bargain price and I’ve been using it for years now.

Cyclingmummy1 · 01/06/2025 09:23

Mulberry Effie Hobo which I use most of the time
Mulberry Darley clutch
MK black tote (gift from a parent)
Liberty tote (sale)
Osprey in teal
About 10 Radley grab bags, 4-5 are picture bags and from the turn of the century
A couple of other Radleys including a cross body which has come back into style.
Small navy Le Pliage
3-4 Kipling for holidays
MK tan bucket which was my mum's - might use it this week for a change
2 Zippit bags
Cross body from Dunelace (nice little project)
A selection of backpacks and others from Tula and Enny which I'd like to think are vintage but are really just dated 😆

I love bags. Always have done.

DancingNotDrowning · 01/06/2025 10:24

so many but the ones I currently use on rotation:

Celine cabas tote - no tote will come close to this and I’m devastated they discontinued

Burberry belt bag - fabulous understated, tardis of a bag

YSL Lou Lou puffer

Gucci Ophidia dome - perfect for summer, will be tucked away come September

these are my once a week bags. I’ve got others I use less often, a channel boy bag, a fab all saints straw bag for the beach

I’m so jealous of your collection! I love every single one of those bags. It’s lovely how each one has a sentimental story.

Also completely relate to your wishlist - I’m pining for a Celine 16! M&S had a good dupe recently but I missed the boat and now they no longer do it.

I have always been fascinated with women and their love for bags, shoes, clothes. Absolutely not judging, I just feel that I must lack something in my DNA because I find it all so tedious. It's not an age thing either, I have never been interested. I would like to understand it though, maybe that's why I visited this thread.

But does this reflect a lack of interest in clothes fashion in general? I’m not especially interested in bags, but I have quite a few as I find that I need different bags with different outfits and depending on what I’m doing. I have 4 bags that are just for work (2 slim backpack style and 2 totes, and 2 are black, 2 are lighter colours for summer).

While I’m not interested in bags per se, I think that the wrong bag can instantly ruin an outfit. I tend to stick to brands which I think have a good balance between quality and price, like strathberry.

Thelifeofawife · 01/06/2025 13:47

I'm getting some bag envy here!

I have:

Mulberry Alexa, mini & regular
Mulberry Amberley x2
Mulberry Lana
Michael Kors saffiano leather satchel
Michael Kors Greenwich crossbody
Michael Kors Jet set clutch x2
Guess shoulder bags x2 (can’t recall names)

I also have my eye on a Gucci marmont.

I previously had a Chloe crossbody, which I massively undersold on eBay.

It’s funny because several years ago I wouldn’t even entertain spending £50 on a handbag

I have three Cambridge satchels in red, black and blue in varying sizes. One (red) was a gift from my best friend cos I'd been admiring hers and no one else (had asked husband and Mum) would buy me one and I couldn't afford to buy one for myself, she then gave me two of hers (yes, I have an incredibly generous best friend). I have two rucksacks, my oldest and my newest, one is an ancient shiny black one with cream trim, the other is a Loungefly Disney one with The Little Mermaid on it. I have a beautiful orange and pink Radley handbag that my husband bought me on a cruise and gave me for my birthday, I love it but it only comes out for special occasions. I have a few party bags a little grey beaded thing, a teal one with big flower on it and a really cute cream satin one. I have various shopping bags the regular shop bought ones M&S, Morrisons, Lidl etc, i bought one in Wales that has lots of Welsh place name on it but my fave is one my MiL made for me, its unique and people are always tell me how lovely it is.

The Superworker is £76 on Amazon compared to £150 from Kipling, worth looking around.

I’m more a shoe girl, but I do have quite a few handbags now I think about it..My day-day bags are a LV Neverfull, an oldie but a very practical goodie. Or a Vivienne Westwood tote - got a red one, and the black ‘art lover’ one. Got an orange Mulberry Antony which is nice, and is practical too. I have a Mulberry Roxanne that I don’t use much as it’s so heavy, and an Iris which is great for work. Got a few others… a red Strathberry somewhere… a blue Prada that I love - should defo use it more. Defo some others too. Off to dig out the blue Prada and get more use out of it!

Only if out and about and not near a toilet. But if I’m having a coffee and snack while out I want to clean my hands first

stample · 01/06/2025 19:59

Radley
kipling x5
asprey x2
lulu guiness
and a handful of cheap ones from temu, primark and new look

I have no handbags. If I need to carry stuff about I use a small cheap back pack. I do not understand the obsession with handbags.

😂 me either. What is in them? Why do they have to humph this stuff wherever they go.
Just why?

PaquitaSalas · 01/06/2025 20:15

@Didshejustsaythatoutloud

Why? 😊

-bags are objects which can be both beautiful and useful
-can add colour or texture to an outfit
-are not dependent on body size
-can be signifiers of status / belonging/ fashion nous
-carry phone/cards/makeup/perfume/tissues/medication

Sometimes ’They’ 🤨 (me and others with bags) just like them 🤷‍♀️

Comefromaway · 01/06/2025 20:28

i have to carry my inhaler, tissues, lipstick, loops & cards & I often go to places where backpacks are not allowed such as gig/concert venues. Also a backpack at a wedding or other formal occasion isn’t really appropriate.

Fair enough but I still have to know what it is that is so precious you all have to carry about with you everywhere you go.
Not you personally just all my fellow wimmn
I would leave it somewhere, I don't know how many umbrellas I've left in churches and such 😂

Comefromaway · 01/06/2025 21:24

My inhaler has a pretty essential and my purse, keys etc are pretty important too.
A handbag isn’t an umbrella. If you have it across your shoulder you are unlikely to leave it behind.
Also I was fed up of having to carry dh’s stuff as well. I suggested he get a manbag (small Armani crossbody messenger bag) & now he wouldn’t be without one.

LoafofSellotape · 01/06/2025 23:04

Purse
Keys
Meds
Travel pass
Umbrella
Tissues
Phone

All essential and I don't have enough pockets.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 02/06/2025 00:31

I have a small Radley pocket crossbody bag for everyday
A brown suede crossbody mobile phone holder bag from Fatface( IIRC)
2 Sainsbury's/ Woodland trust reusable shoppers.
Functional rather than an accessory
