These sandals - yay or nay?

Keen Rose https://amzn.eu/d/dSI6aKb

I want sandals with a toe box to hide my fugal nails, comfy to walk and sand in all day. Will wear as a teacher who teaches forest school and outdoor activities as well as in the classroom. With and without socks, must be machine washable.

I like the look of these Keen sandals. Do you agree or can I find better?

It would be a hard no from me but wear what you like, horses for courses!

Well you might wear trainers or you might prefer sandals for all the usual reasons: cooler feet in hot weather and you can go in water or rinse sand out of them without them taking 2 days to dry, basically.

( However the bit about axes is scary. Maybe the OP should be looking at safety boots for a whole new level of ugly)

Well you might if you like sandals but you asked the reason for sandal hate and I gave mine. It’s mostly the walking or outdoorsy sandals that I hate. I don’t find them practical or pretty which renders them pointless in my eyes.
I think it’s debatable as to whether they are cooler as they mostly seem to be plastic or similar which when paired with bare skin is a recipe for sweat. I’ve just been away with my sister who had to keep her sweaty sandals on the balcony as they smelled so bad.
The right trainers will dry out just as quickly and have the benefit of not letting in anything unwanted and paired with the right socks are no hotter on the feet than sandals.
Having had to wear ‘remedial’ footwear for several years as a child I vowed not to wear any fugly footwear again.
There was much more sandal love on the man sandal thread though!

I’d sooner go for crocs.

Eastermuppet · 27/05/2025 20:45

If you like them wear them, but in my opinion, and no reason why you should listen to it, is they are awful and I recoiled when I saw them.

Crocs are in with the young 'uns! Worn with thick white socks.

....baggy grey joggers, tight white crop top.
It's a look!

poppymolly · 27/05/2025 20:52

Definitely not

SchrodingersTwat2 · 27/05/2025 23:14

Nay

Tumblingthrough · 27/05/2025 23:17

Just go for cool mesh trainers instead, then sort out your fungal nails.

missmodular2 · 28/05/2025 07:49

Can I just say this thread is hilarious. I haven't laughed so much in ages and have learned so much about fungal nail cures. Thank you everyone 👏

Teachers' dress codes usually preclude the wearing of trainers. In her case I'd get a dispensation from the HT and take your advice!

I've got these:

MrsLeonFarrell · 28/05/2025 09:06

They look comfortable and practical for what you need them for.

Aren't they the same as the OP's?

No, hers are more strappy. Mine are more like fishermans sandals.

Ok. Similar though.

They're minging sorry.

Fisherman style in moshulu are much nicer.

Why do you need to wash them? Don't think I've ever washed a shoe.

OP mentions forest school, which will often = mud.

OP, I dare say they’ll look fine on. If you like them, try them.

tobee · 28/05/2025 17:23

Why are the colour choices so awful? I didn't know such colours existed. They're like the colours of sadness and despair.

Mayla · 28/05/2025 17:34

I have these exact same shoes and I love them. I've used and abused them on camping and hiking trips for the past 4 years and they still look great. Over here in Canada, Keen is a very popular brand and it's quite common to see their original Keen sandals in summer. This particular model is slightly more feminine and I prefer it to the original.
It's funny how geographic and cultural differences influence taste. Having grown up in the UK for a bit, I remember many of my peers had fisherman sandals and I owned a couple of them too. I do like that look as well. But honestly, if you're looking for functionality, you really can't go wrong with these. They're very comfy, quick-trying, and prevent any nasty toe stubs from rocks etc (as well as hiding your toes :))

blcakgaragedoor · 28/05/2025 17:36

Oh not sure about these. They are a little ugly.

shivbo2014 · 28/05/2025 18:45

Worst shoes I've ever seen

tillyandmilly · 28/05/2025 21:59

I would wear these! They are walking trek sandals trainers - I can’t understand why some people are saying they are ugly - ? 🧐
