These sandals - yay or nay?

Keen Rose https://amzn.eu/d/dSI6aKb

I want sandals with a toe box to hide my fugal nails, comfy to walk and sand in all day. Will wear as a teacher who teaches forest school and outdoor activities as well as in the classroom. With and without socks, must be machine washable.

I like the look of these Keen sandals. Do you agree or can I find better?

WHAT ARE THOSEEE

Longhotsummers · 26/05/2025 23:41

I think the colour name sums them up, with an emphasis on the shit part of shitake.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 26/05/2025 23:44

Why don’t you just get your fungus toes sorted?

Unusualllly · 26/05/2025 23:50

Those saying just sort fungal nails, have obviously never had a fungal nail infection! Drugs cause liver damage and topical stuff won't touch a bad infection.
The fisherman style shoe are all much more hideous in my opinion, ugly and not practical for rough ground or long walks.

I hate wearing outdoor sandals for proper walking because twigs and gravel get in. Just wear summer weight walking shoes / trainers

I am laughing at the teens talk of ‘concrete grippers’ without actually knowing what they are.

What are concrete grippers?

(I bet I need some!)

I wear walking sandals. Don’t usually get too gravel in, but if I do it comes out again pretty easily. Semi enclosed is probably the worst of all worlds from that perspective.

I agree…the rather weird ugly of the keens is better than the meh ugly of some of the other suggestions.

mondaytosunday · 27/05/2025 01:28

Nope they are ugly. You can find better.

merrymelody · 27/05/2025 01:36

I would wear them. Merrell does excellent outdoor sandals as well. It took me years to recover my big left toenail from the grip of a fungal infection. I used topical anti fungal treatment and kept cutting away at the toenail until eventually it went away.

abracadabra1980 · 27/05/2025 01:57

I don't think I have ever seen such an ugly pair of sandals in my entire life. Bare feet would be preferable to those. Sorry OP!

CeciliaMars · 27/05/2025 06:01

Oh my eyes….

Shelbypop · 27/05/2025 06:07

Hideous and potentially even worse with the addition of socks.

YumYumBerries · 27/05/2025 06:08

I like them but then I own merrells for walking and josef fishermen ones for work. I couldn’t do forest school in the josef ones. Honestly just pick the ones you like people will judge whatever but life is too short to not have comfy feet.

If you work in a Secondary school, those pupils will have plenty to say behind your back. Last week a pupil said to me ‘ OMG have you seen Mrs ……. concrete grippers?’ Another pupil said ‘ she is wearing sandals, who wears sandals?’ Teenagers are brutal.
Stick to trainers if I was you.

Do grown adults really care what random kids think and dress accordingly?

cheesycheesy · 27/05/2025 06:16

Crimes against foot fashion. Horrific. Just wear smaller, lighter closed toed shoes. Then you can swear socks. I’d rather see foot fungus that those things.

Sunrise8888 · 27/05/2025 06:24

Buy them if you like them OP, you’re going to wear them and not anybody else on this chat. Everybody has different style sense and what they like. I like the black ones over the beige ones, they would be good for going for walks in the woods etc they protect your toes, dries quickly and have an arch support. The only thing I’d say, for that price range I would expect the straps to be leather and not synthetic but it’s my personal choice. I love leather shoes as the feet breath in them and they don’t smell as usually synthetic does.

isthismylifenow · 27/05/2025 06:41

I'm intrigued as to what concrete grippers are now.

These are not something I would buy, but if they seem practical for how you would wear them, then go for them.

There are so many posts here about how awful they are, but I also think a lot of suggestions posted are no nicer.

And then fishermen sandals. So by going for those, you will just appear a clone of everyone else as looking through any other sandal thread......Moshulu fishermans sandals ad nauseum.

I wear sandals most of the year as live in a hot country. I can assure you that half of these posted here won't get worn that much, have to be styled just so. And my heel bone is cringing looking at those leather sandals which imo are going to take a season to break in.

Sandal threads are quite interesting to read as an 'outsider' to current Northern Hemisphere fashion. One OP will post the most unflattering shoe and everyone loves them. Another OP can post an almost identical shoe on another thread, and like you, get such negative replies.

So what everyone else seems to think, seems to depends on the first reply.

I only comment on these is to check this colour is one that would work. I am very pale and if I wear a light shoe like this, I look like I have no feet from a distance. Skin tone does matter in sandals.

BreatheAndFocus · 27/05/2025 07:36

Nay! They’re ugly - and far too expensive! There are cheaper, nicer versions of those closed toe things, but I’d just go with normal sandals personally. How many people’s toenails do you notice when you’re out and about?

Sunshineandrainbow · 27/05/2025 07:41

Have a look at Josef Seibel. I find mine comfy

Picklechicken · 27/05/2025 07:51

begone25 · 27/05/2025 06:45

Yes if you want to be “in” these are the Keen ones that are in fashion.

Or any of the Dr Marten closed toe fisherman sandals.

But admittedly they probably won’t be as comfortable as the ones op originally linked to.

ALunchbox · 27/05/2025 07:52

I think they're ok!

Toes basically 😂 My DC say it, always makes me feel a bit ill.

XiCi · 27/05/2025 08:13

Those shoes are something else 🤢.
If I was outdoors a lot and wanted my feet covered I would wear trainers.
If you're worried about feet being too hot you can get lightweight, breathable ones.
Lots of people have had success with Vicks vaporub applied topically to fungal nail infections, worth a try.
