Got to go for work in a couple of weeks and will have some time to browse the mall. What is worth getting there, beauty wise? Make and/or skincare

Glossier priming moisturiser is always my go to!

AngeloMysterioso · 07/05/2025 20:29

Crest teeth whitening strips

tartyflette · 07/05/2025 20:30

Not makeup but I always get an antiseptic spray or liquid called Bactine. It's really good on burns, grazes, bites etc. It doesn't sting at all so kids are fine with it being put on them, it also contains a mild topical anaesthetic to help with pain.

Very cheap too.

squarepegroudhole · 07/05/2025 20:30

Big tubs of pain relief, Advil pm in particular.

Crest teeth whitening strips

Do these hurt, @AngeloMysterioso ? I’ve been curious to try them but have sensitive teeth!

Perzival · 07/05/2025 20:35

I second crest whitening strips. I have sensitive teeth and I'm OK with them.

I’ve not had any trouble with them

Melatonin

foreverblowingbubbless · 07/05/2025 20:37

Tubes of Lidocaine and cortisone cream. Large tubs of paracetemol or ibuprofen with the night time sleep thing in them. Chewy gummy vitamins. Melatonin if you use.

tartyflette · 07/05/2025 20:40

I can't remember big brands of cosmetic much but i do recall lots of 'drugstore' ones which were very reasonable -- nice to try a few (lots!) out if anything takes your fancy.

foreverblowingbubbless · 07/05/2025 20:43

See if you can get to an ULTA beauty outlet. They have great deals. Usually located near a mall.

dudsville · 07/05/2025 20:43

They have a shops own brand steroid, good for itches that won't go. And a shop brand neosporan, I can't remember what it is, but heals wounds quickly. And yes, the whitening straps and big bottles of various pain relievers and their versions of night nurse and the day time equivalent tv bat allow one to function when you have to but have the cold from hell.

Crest whitening strips
melatonin
those red liquorice sticks

therealmccoy1234 · 07/05/2025 20:48

Didn't even think about cortisone cream, I'll get that in bulk as I get hayfever related eczema and it's a real pain trying to get anything that will touch it without a prescription here.
My shopping list going to be huge!

Microwave popcorn

getahhtmapub · 07/05/2025 20:52

Sadly not much is uniquely sold on the US. Everything is sold in the UK particularly in Sephora. I remember the excitement of going to NY and discovering Kiehls, Tiffany, Abercrombie, Lululemon, Sephora brands etc. Now Greenwich Village could easily be any high street in the UK.

Most things you will want to pick up and those mentioned here will be drugstore stuff that’s not available over the counter in the UK (because not approved or is prescription only).

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 07/05/2025 20:53

Oooo following as on holiday there in August

I don't have any skincare recommendations but I always go to Old Navy in the US. In fact I usually do an online order to be delivered to my hotel.

The large tubs of pain killers aren't cheap but it can be useful to have them in larger quantities.
