Got to go for work in a couple of weeks and will have some time to browse the mall. What is worth getting there, beauty wise? Make and/or skincare

Secret deoderant. Brilliant stuff.

PetGala · 08/05/2025 06:23

Those sleep gummies

PetGala · 08/05/2025 06:23

The sleep things.
can't remember what's in them.

UName38 · 08/05/2025 06:31

On clothes they generally have more available in Petite or Tall though changing as people buying online and like here physical shops not as good.

dudsville · 08/05/2025 07:33

I just remembered that neosporan is an antiobitc, so handy.

Re the steroid, it bugs me that we can't get this over the counter. I had an itchy patch on my scalp that wouldn't go away. I didn't want to use the cream because it's not a great look on hair, so I went to the pharmacy to ask if they could recommend a product, but the advice was to go to my gp for a steroid. The gp appt would be weeks away, so I've just applied the cream I have over the last two nights and the itch is gone. We need a step down from the gp here that allows us access to quick simple remedies. Next time I'm in the US I'll be looking for a scalp treatment to have on hand.

The other things I like to get there are peroxide toothpaste - whitens as you brush so stains don't build. And arm and hammer herbal scented deodorants and scentless antiperspirants.

That is genius! I'm getting right on that

I’m going to US in a few weeks too so thanks for this genius thread OP!! 😊

I planned on going to Old Navy but an online order is genius.

I also love Beauty Pie and sometimes they have different things on the US site, such as glow drops not available in UK anymore.

StarlightLady · 08/05/2025 08:27

An orange president. 😀

Microwave popcorn

You can get that easily here!

HermioneWeasley · 08/05/2025 08:58

Another vote for bactine spray, it’s bloody brilliant. I have no idea why they don’t sell it here. Also big tubs of naproxen (which you can bring back to the UK)

wwyd2021medicine · 08/05/2025 12:02

Just a quick bump as I'm on the way to the airport now😊

You can get it online. No idea if the price is inflated though:

Regarding the Bactine places like CVS etc all have the exact ingredient own brand at cheaper prices. ( as with everything)

Orville Redenbacher?

Glad wrap clingfilm. It’s super strong. I always bring it over for my mum when I come home (I live in the U.S.). Madewell jeans (not sure if available in the UK).

OneEdgyScroller · 08/05/2025 14:25

American here so as typical need to offer my unsolicited commentary.
Trader Joes is fabulous for toiletries, candy and snacks. Someone mentioned it as a bargain brand, well, yes, but they source from the best companies. Every time they release a new product everyone rushes to see what big brand they are selling under their own label. Its good stuff, everything. The snacks and candy are fun (and delicious) as they change seasonally. Their seasonings are fab and dirt cheap.
If you have a friend who is a member at Costco, they pain meds are so, so cheap and come in multi-year sizes. My elderly Irish aunt always had us bring her Naproxen. But all American drug and "big" stores like Walmart, Target, etc have their own store brand versions of Neosporin (antibiotic cream/balm for cuts, etc.), Hydrocortisone (anti-ich steroid cream), Benadryl (anti allergy oral med also used as sleep aid). The quality and strength is legally the same so dont waste money on name brands.
Old Navy - fun, but honestly cheap quality fast fashion. Great sales though and good as long as you know it wont last more than a season.

Fieldmousebonnet · 08/05/2025 14:40

Melatonin, sold in supermarkets. However on my last trip I found the prices of everything in the US astonishingly high. In the past I used to stock up on lots of things while I was there but if I was going to the US again I would actually pack things such as snacks, spare toiletries etc with me to avoid having to buy things there.

foreverblowingbubbless · 08/05/2025 14:41

@OneEdgyScroller I was surprised too at the love for Old Navy. I tend to buy things which are better bargains than the UK like Levi's, Coach and anything else which catches my eye 😂 .

Serenster · 08/05/2025 14:56

I would buy Sunday Riley’s “Good Genes” exfoliator - the US version has more lactic acid in it than the version sold in the UK and Europe (so it works better, basically).

The lactic acid version has just been released here.

Serenster · 08/05/2025 15:17

Oh, I didn’t know that! Is it the same 10% formulation as in the US?

I'm not sure. It doesn't give a % as far as I can see although I'm sure the information is out there somewhere.

Thanks you, I ll investigate. The US version is a great product. 😀

mathanxiety · 08/05/2025 16:03

Hydrocortisone cream
Neosporin/ triple antibiotic ointment
Jock itch/ athlete's foot cream
Naproxen sodium (Aleve)
Acetaminophen (paracetamol) "Tylenol"
Benadryl tablets
Benadryl gel for topical application to mosquito bites
Alka Seltzer Plus severe cold formula fizzy tabs - formulated with either aspirin or acetaminophen, plus nasal decongestant, anti histamine, and cough med - will give you a good night's sleep and wipe out your heavy cold symptoms.

  • buy ^ store brands; cheaper than name brands and work just as well.
  • hydrocortisone, athlete's foot cream and triple antibiotic creams come in very small tubes but last a long time.

Tylenol/ acetaminophen 'extra strength' comes in 500mg tablets. It's actually hard to find 'regular strength' acetaminophen (325mg) ime.

Peanut M&Ms

You'll find Walgreens, CVS, and other drugstores are more pricy than Walmart and Target. Walmart is usually cheaper than Target. Might be a trek to get to either of these two though.
