Got to go for work in a couple of weeks and will have some time to browse the mall. What is worth getting there, beauty wise? Make and/or skincare

Hey @therealmccoy1234 - while you’re here, if you have any spare time - try to find a farmers market and enjoy the local fruit and vegetables.
You can take it with you within the US - and taste a little of our local produce.
You won’t regret it.

I second the local markets. They grow so many fruits, veg, nuts over there. I once had boiled peanuts in the south. So tasty. Properly ripe peaches and plums, a variety of melons and squashes, etc.

More on the side of destroyers of small business, which is never great, when I was last over I had a bit of a road trip and discovered a chain called Buc-ees, a massive gas station complex along some stretches of interstates. They had every snack and drink imaginable, but also made fresh sandwiches and salads and fruit and veg pots, etc. I bought a small but packed sandwich, the ingredients list was all good stuff, and it was soo good that when I came home I bought the ingredients to mimic the bold flavours at home. Also, I counted, they had 100 gas station pumps and 100 electric car stations. The restrooms were of course gleaming. I will look out for them next time I'm over.

Can you bring things like Melatonin and big tubs of painkillers back into the UK without any issues/declaring them?

Tinseltuttifruitti · 14/05/2025 11:59

Clinique is much cheaper there if you like their products, same for Burt's bees.

I always stock up on OTC anti-carsickness pills, much better that what's available in the UK.

Food wise, condiments like chipotle mayo and boar's head brand honey mustard.

Just a “Heads Up”.

A few years ago we were driving back home to New Jersey after spending a few days in Montreal, Canada. My husband pulled into the services on the Interstate and whilst he went to get some food asked me if I could buy some painkillers as he thought he was developing a headache.

I bought some Advil PM. He laughed at me and said that I probably wouldn’t appreciate it if he fell asleep at the wheel……

I had no idea that Advil and Tylenol PM (or indeed any medication in the US which is labelled PM) is to help induce sleep! A bit like when you buy something like Sudafed or Lemsip tablets for heavy colds or flu and they have daytime and night time tablets in the same packet.

You need to buy the regular Advil or Tylenol if you want to stay awake!

Yes they add the antihistamine that makes people drowsy. For some people including me it has the opposite effect and gives me terrible nervous twitching and restless legs!
