All welcome

Veils drawn over last week...

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Just popping in to see how DofN is doing - hope everything's lovely and you're curled up in bed with a little one! xxx

tigermoth · 26/05/2008 11:18

Good luck DofN

Hope the rain eases off. Intend to declutter as well - the room I am presently typing in is inexcusably messy (spare room).

Am now having to take a tablet each day for high blood pressure - doc told me I will have to do this for the rest of my life. Said it was due to my age (50). My actual heart rate was low-ish helped probably by me swimming three times a week. The doc also- he checked my weight, asked about alcohol intake, stress levels - all ok. But I know I should probably cut down on alcohol (as I am on the upper limit of what's ok each week)as this does help raise blood pressure (sob!) Nurse said this would help.

I had absolutely no idea I had high blood pressure - no symptoms at all. I just had a random check done for free a week ago and was told to stop swimming, take it easy and go to my doc the next day! Several blood pressure and blood checks later I am now on medication. But at least I have been given the all clear to go swimming again.

So I'd like to add a tip to the 10 years younger plan if that's ok - get your blood pressure checked!

Mornin all! (oops it's almost afternoon)

Hope Norks is all snuggly with her newborn

Had my BP done on Tuesday TS and it passed without comment (135/82) so I'm assuming it was OK. I had my induction with the lovely Gaz (and he was quite pleasant on the eye) and also as it was quiet, the equally lovely Andy who is a trainer in training. Two for the price of one watching my abysmal attempts at some upper body exercises. I am so feeble lol! Still, my cardio workout passed muster despite Andy looking at me sideways when I said I'd run regularly for 7 years. I imagine he was thinking 'What for? The bus?'

ureb - sorry about the ear infection [ouch]

bamamama · 26/05/2008 12:12

Hello all, just passing through and hoping the Duchess is done and dusted by now!

Hanging head in bootcamp shame after last week - far too much wine and snacking but we were celebrating as it would seem that we may be staying in Oz another 3 years! Looks like we're moving to Sydney after a 6 month stint back home first.

Anyhoo, will go and catch up on rest of thread now. Hope everyone is enjoying their bank holiday.

WideWebWitch · 26/05/2008 16:09

DofN, I have been thinking about you today, I hope you are snuggled up with a newborn, do let us see a picture of him soon won't you?

lol at running for the bus saggars

bama, good news about Oz

Blimey Tigermoth, how lucky that you found out.

Wongster, what a pita. You need to buy vitamins before you start and take them, esp the psyllium as it's to stop constipation.

I LOVE this weather, it is raining here too. Our kitchen is now immaculate, all the cupboards are tidy and another million bin liners have been filled. Dh is going to have to spend half of tomorrow going to the tip. Ex mil and sil are here and have been occupying the children, it's been most pleasant.

Today
bacon and eggs
spinach salad with haddock and assorted cheese, plus dressing
So I have only

L&S, I hope you enjoyed your time alone, whatever you did.

Prufrock · 26/05/2008 17:51

Come on duch - where is mini-duke (is that a viscount?)

Inspired by your earlier post www I have cleared out the study cupboard. Given that I am not at all a person who keeps junk, I had a suprisingly large amount of crap in there. Had to persuade dh that we would never need 7 mobile chargers and that it was OK to throw them away, and now I too feel all virtuous.

How scary Tigermoth - but at least your fixed now.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 26/05/2008 17:59

Sorry for delay ladies. My cuddly newborn sleeps all the time so I am too.

Contractions finally started at nearly 11pm and Archie born just before midnight at home in the bath as planned.

Afterpains terrible. Food surprisingly good! Lots of water. Bugger everything else.

Photo's tomorrow.

WideWebWitch · 26/05/2008 18:14

Oh very many congratulations DofN, how lovely, well done you and lots of love to you and your lovely newborn 1 hour, blimey, well done!

Prufrock, we're now half way through the last room and we're FED UP! But goodness me, what a lot of crap. I can't wait to have finished this.

Prufrock · 26/05/2008 18:18

Oh congratulations duch, and welcome to bootcamp Lord Archie of Norksbride (I checked and that would be his honorific unless you have any lesser titles yourself that he could borrow). Go get some rest.

Iota · 26/05/2008 18:21

Yay! Congrats on the new babe.

Well done to everyone who got anything done this weekend. We slugged around for most of it but did see IJ and the Crystal something today. Will not say more in case anyone's going to see! And I made it to the gym yesterday, too, whoo hoo.

tigermoth · 26/05/2008 19:07

Congrats to you Duchess! 1 hour is impressive.

I too have been decluttering - shelves, not cupboards, and went for a swim.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 26/05/2008 19:29

Oh congrats Norks. Welcome to Archie

Fab news re the arrival of young Archie, warmest congratulations to you all Duchess XXX
and hello to everyone else esp. tigermoth. Anyone less likely to be obviously in need of BP medication I cannot imagine, I am not at all surprised it went undetected (tigermoth is one of the calmest people I know in RL ) Glad it's all starting to come under control now
So sorry about your nan Prufrock
It's definitely been decluttering weather, I've done the bathroom and dh our bedroom today.
I am nowhere near a skirt of skweeze result yet but can now do up buttons (a bit Tom Kitten stylee) on a coat I could not two weeks ago
What an energetic weekend we've all had - 41,000 steps, bed-ins with Matt Damon and a bottle of red, frenzied decluttering, gym inductions, momentary child abandonment and popping one out in an hour!
Stalking sweatily round Bluewater in pursuit of the last surviving Siemens slimline dishwasher, with dd singing about make-up and Barbies in my wake, is my contribution.
Back to life, back to reality tomorrow alas.
At least I will be well moisturised and have neat trotters...

Marina · 26/05/2008 20:01

Forgot to wish ureb a quick resolution of the ear agony, those infections are grim!

Cammelia · 26/05/2008 20:23

Many congratulations DofN on the safe arrival of little Archie

unknownrebelbang · 26/05/2008 22:50

Congratulations Duchess! How lovely.

Am rather sandswept - we made it to the (rather windy) seaside....but think I would have preferred decluttering....

moonshine · 27/05/2008 11:26

Big congratulations Duchess and welcome to Archie.

And so sorry about your nan Prufrock - hope you are bearing up this week.

And I've missed so much.

WWW - amazing re: weight-loss/no hunger/energetic decluttering. If you have some spare (energy) I have several rooms that needed doing about 6 months ago and still go untouched....

at your walking Batters - amazing. Did it just take the whole day?

Yoyo - I don't eat before a workout - but I never have done, although I just don't really get the time/opportunity atm. A shot of caffeine can help as does eating carbs the night before.

I had a brilliant weekend in the Cotswold sans dcs. Is it really really bad to say I didn't miss them? Lots of walking on the Saturday, lots of lounging on the Sunday (the weather was just too bad even for us) and lots and lots of food and drink - oops. But all in a good cause. I must now knuckle down and lose the weight I put on and not let it slip into a habit. And I really cannot afford to grow anymore into (or out of??) my own Trousers of Truth (Oh dear, have just remember I have already promised to make a cake with dcs today).

And I confess that I forgot to put on suncream on Saturday and got burned!! Serves me right really for breaking a cardinal 10yy rule.

Have a good week all - is it half-term countrywide? Anyway, always a hard time I find for bootcamp..

SixSpotBurnet · 27/05/2008 11:34

Congratulations Duchess!

Pru, really sorry to hear about your grandmother .

Tigermoth - what a horrid shock .

JJ - if there is anything we can do to help (eg lend DS some books, or whatever, to pas the time when he is recuperating) please email me on [email protected] .
