All welcome

Veils drawn over last week...

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

lol Marina at fancies his chances, Peep Show is SO the antidote to romance I agree! Well done for getting through ds being away. It's was a scary glimpse for me of the fact that he will be leaving home sometime and I must get a life before then

Arfy skirts are looser but not needing to go down a size yet. Tennis day sounds HORRIFIC.

Ate grilled mushrooms with butter and blue cheese + salad and cheese last night and drank Champagne but not to excess and we were in bed by ooh, I think it was midnight actually so not that good but didn't wake until half seven so that's not bad.

just weighed myself and haven't lost anything but neither have I put on anything so am happy with that given that alcohol has been involved this week.

That's FANTASTIC WWW! so much lard down the pan, well done, you are an inspiration

A nice lady on the pig2twig forum nipped out and bought me a copy of the book and sent it off, I paid her of course. So that should be here soon.

I realised I was getting through too much cream so I have had none except in coffee today. DH and the Fragrant Boys and I went out for dim sum and I resisted the deep fried squid and the cheong fun with prawns and asked the kitchen to knock me up some prawns and choi sam stirfried with garlic onion and chilli and it was Fab.

I have necked down 150g of salami as a snack today. Will I go to hell?

Hello to everyone else on this thread too. I know about DoN and newbie Archie , but are there any other salient life issues/gossip I should know about so as not to appear ignorant?

WideWebWitch · 31/05/2008 17:33

They're nice on that forum aren't they Suzy, how nice of them to post it to you. How are you feeling? What day are you on?

Today

bacon and eggs
and went to the French woman in local market and bought lovely things and she very kindly checked the labels for me and no sugar or anything I'm not allowed in her salamis, which is fab since I've been struggling to find a salami with no milk or sugar.

So lunch was
2 quail eggs with celery salt
salad of spinach leaves, avocado, cucumber, green beans, olive oil and vinegar vinaigrette
chicken liver pate
camobozola, port salut and cheese with chilli
spicy chorizo, salami
olives

gorgeous.

Happy weekend everyone. I will start a new thread tomorrow night so we can all start afresh on Monday after the excess of half term. Marina, hope you're enjoying having ds back!

Hello ladies - is it all right for me to re join the fray? Have finished puking and although still a bit tired, am feeling up to doing some exercise and eating healthily again. Baby is well, growing a lot and making a small bump. I have lost weight through the white toast and mint diet, but will pile on now.

Hope you are all well. What have I missed?

Marina · 01/06/2008 08:23

WWW and I are both size 8 already thanks to SlimyWorld and Neris & India . Three weeks = a looooong time in bootcamping chutney. Glad you are feeling better.
We had a massive surge of sympathetic nesting/tidying around the time of DoNB's EDD, with the result that uteruses were decluttered along with offspring's lairs and various spare rooms. Archard de Norks-Bride is now amongst us. I think he's managing fine on the 2 litres a day but has not lent a hand with the mucking out yet, tut.
Some oldsters have rejoined - notably Arfishy (no news yet on Evil Victoria) and suzywong and pecka, both new to bootcamping but long-time Mners.
Yoyo is understandably worried about her dd1 and her activity trip to A and E holiday, but www, batters and I, who have all recently relinquished our PFBs to the clutches of a load of risk-happy Gap Year dudes and lived to tell the tale, have been able to give her all the reassurance she needs...mine came back last night, caked in mud from nostrils to toes, pristine bar of soap with writing on still in filthy sponge bag (had had to burn "flannel"). He loved it
Tharsheblows' ds1 has got to have surgery for his Perthes' Disease, so London Mners are on standby to help as needed...and L&S...is doing sit-ups already
Bama may be staying out in Oz for longer and ureb did her toe in
Prufrock is having norks reduction surgery

chutneymary · 01/06/2008 08:40

Thanks for the update, Marina - congratulations to Duchess and to the dieters. I am glad you are shrinking before our eyes. Slimy world is one of the few I've never tried but I've heard it's good. N and I is a version of Atkins I think? Lots of meat, no booze, lots of shopping in the good bits of Waitrose, but not much in the way of F and V? I may be wrong.

Sorry to hear about the illnesses. Ureb, I broke my toe about 20 years ago and it's exquisitely painful. Tharsheblows, I don't think we have ever spoken, but I am very sorry to hear about your DS's operation. I am in S London and from end June I have 2 months off from work so can do whatever you like to help. I will also have 2 days of bliss per week when I am child free as they will be at nursery so can run any errands etc you might need without the kids to hold me back. I don't know what Perthes' disease is (but will look so no need to explain) but I hope he is OK>

Pru, very exciting about the norks. I am very envious as I am a 32H and liable to grow! L and S, you are putting me to shame with the situps. I haven't done one since 2001. I am going to follow your good ex and that of Duchess and try not to lard up too much this time (did over 4 stone with both DDs). Still in normal clothes which are still quite loose but have a bump starting so may not last long.

Bama, longer down under sounds great. Are you looking forward to it?

Right, off to feed DDs and guzzle my spatone (hurrah) and fybogel (not so hurrah). It's really lovely to be back

PeckaRolloverAgain · 01/06/2008 09:56

Oh dear, dear, dear

Weekend NOT good

Wine is a double edged sword a) it makes me fat just by drinking it b) the hangover hunger that follows puts any good midweek efforts down the pan. I have been really rather drunk friday and saturday and couldn't begin to tell you what I have eaten.

I am a pig.

WideWebWitch · 01/06/2008 10:45

Fab summary Marina!

Pecka, to quote from India and Neris (and yes, the explanation of that was correct! I am allowed leafy veg but no fruit atm, lots of vits though, no carbs, no sugar no wine )
"the totally brilliant thing is that you can get un fat!" - I keep thinking this whenever I feel down about it.

Have just completed boring but necessary cashflow forecast which shows us completely solvent by end November, hurrah, which is when my contract ends so that's just as bloody well lucky.

Not looking forward to going back to work tomorrow, boo hoo. It's been lovely. But hey, I am climbing back on the wagon so expect better result on the scales next Saturday.

So, end November: Solvent AND a size 14 (at most!) That's a plan innit?

yoyo · 01/06/2008 10:55

So glad this week is over in terms of food and drink fest. Have one last outing to get through today which will involve picnic-type stuff so fairly calorific. Will be in gym tonight now that aches have subsided after last session.

DD doesn't go for a fortnight. Thinking of hitting the Rescue Remedy soon. She is being a complete twelve-year-old pain at the moment too. Thanks for being so kind about my anxiety everyone.

Who is Evil Victoria?

Must now shower and prepare food. Will be late as usual. Enjoy your Sunday everyone.

bamamama · 01/06/2008 11:15

Marina - could we have a summary every week, that was so useful! Glad that ds is back in one piece, why exactly did he have to burn his flannel?

CM, glad to see you back, very at bump. (not thinking about ttc every waking hour at all) We are looking forward to moving to Sydney although there is a bit of negotiating to be done with dh's work so nothing is official. We will be back in the UK for at least six months so will get to do the whole 27 hours of travelling with a toddler even more! Joy!

Pecka, I believe WWW has an excellent veil that can be borrowed on Sunday evenings....

WWW - excellent plan! I've been thinking about your diet, do you think it is practically sustainable in the long term? Will it be easy enough to eat out for example?? Once you're at the weight you want to be will you be able to be a bit slacker with it?? Genuinely interested - I love the idea of all the cheese and eggs and bacon for breakfast but I suspect I'd have that and everything else too. (and for some reason I keep thinking your breakfast of fried quails eggs and then making a mental leap to Prufrocks forthcoming surgery...just can't disassociate the two.) Also, is the diet financially sustainable? Questions, questions.....

Anyhoo, a rather drunken night was had on Friday so a quieter weekend than planned. DH is currently sitting at the hospital bed side of one of his students that had to have emergency surgery Saturday night. It looks like he will be fine but sadly it seems his problems may be drink related. Very sad as he's only 24.

Right, from tomorrow I'm going to be health personified. Are we having a new thread???
Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone.

suzywong · 01/06/2008 11:27

Spray@shopping in the good bits of Waitrose, Chutneymary

God I'd give my right foot for half an hour in the arse-end of Waitrose, even the one on Holloway Road. Hey, is it true the Nag's Head pub is no longer the Nag's Head pub. God, I have to stop now with the London images, in my state of sweetie craving it's doing me no good.

The IPD is fabulous, if you like to cook and be inventive with it, and I DO. And as it's all about me, then that suits me fine!

Hello Marina
How is London on the first day of Summer?

It's the first day of Winter here, 23 degrees.

I'm rambling now, aren't I

God, I want a jaffa cake

WideWebWitch · 01/06/2008 11:27

Bama, we will have a new thread I think! I will do it later.

My diet, well, the book says you do have to more or less keep it up to stay slim. So not many carbs or sugar, but plenty of veg and some fruit. And I think I can do it tbh, once I am at the weight I want to be I can eat fruit and some good carbs in moderation, I just can't mainline white bread or pizza. The odd bit will be fine though. It's a v good diet for eating in restaurants as I can have any meat or fish plus veg, I just can't have bread and potaotes. And it's actually mostly very unmessed about food, no sugar, no additives, leafy green veg, salads etc, all fairly healthy. India's doctor was happy with her doing it and apparently cardiologists approve of it too. I have no idea how good or otherwise it is but am taking my chances since the risks of being fat outweigh any risks of this diet to my mind.

My shopping cost has gone up slightly as there's more meat and cheese and fish but it's partly because I do love prawns and salmon and scallops and other expensive things. So I guess the answer is yes, I do think I can keep it up and it is sustainable long term for me. Anyone who thinks they can go back to lots of carbs once they've lost the weight will get fat again I think. I also take the point that once you're at a happier weight if you weigh yourself regularly then it's easier to deal with the odd pound by exercising a bit more/cutting back slightly than it is when you have stones and stones to lose and it all seems a bit of a mountain to climb. So far it's the easiest diet I've ever done because the food I'm eating is delicious and filling and I'm never hungry. I was incredulous at first but am thoroughly converted.

Realised too that most Nigel Slater recipes are great on this diet!

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 01/06/2008 11:30

And I like cooking too.

Wong, what are you missing most about London? Is it the beggars? The shite tube system? The expense?

OP posts:
suzywong · 01/06/2008 11:36

No, it's the Conceited Middle Classes and their petty territory turf wars, particularly in cul-de-sacs with no parking restrictions.

I'm on day 6 WWW. Got parrot's cage mouth but I've lost 5lbs. Yes I weighed. I couldn't help it. Another 19lbs to go

And yes, I agree that it does seem sustainable in terms of not necking a loaf of kingsmill at a sitting and having good quality and infrequent treats.

I got French Women Don't Get Fat out of the library today, do you think it would be a mistake to cast an eye at it with regards to 6 months down the track? Have you read it?

WideWebWitch · 01/06/2008 11:38

I have read French women don't get fat. It's basically about moderation. She's President of Veuve I think or some Champagne house and she says it's fine to drink Champagne but just ONE glass of it. That'll be where I'm going wrong then!

lol at territory and parking wars.

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 01/06/2008 11:38

And 5lb is fab!

Too much here to catch up on again.

No waitrose in Stoke CM. What might be the meaning of that then? Sympathy - fybogel is grim.

Hooray for a nice tiramisu laden week batters at 'one dad each'. Fab lol.

Am doing my level best to ignore all the healthy eating and weightloss going on around here. Must do better.

And what fresh Hell is this? I forgot to mention that it appears from my shopping trip with dd that The Body is back! Bad memories of these the first time around - surely only little babies should wear garments with poppers on the crotch?

The highlight of my week was a short (against physio's orders) run. Twas OK. And the breaking of my abstinence from booze on Thursday. Very pleasant evening but felt crap on Friday and am sort of grateful to be back on the wagon until next Saturday.

WideWebWitch · 01/06/2008 16:46

NEW THREAD HERE

OP posts:
Prufrock · 01/06/2008 16:58

I've been bad again and am admitting it here so I can be all shinily virtuous on the new thread. Had friends for dinner last night so ate and drank far too much, and still have half of a big chocolate bombe which is addictively good in my fridge. I might try to give it away. But next week is a new week, and no more half term, and I'm starting antibiotics that cannot be taken with alcohol so will not be tempted.

The nork job will take 6 weeks to be back to normal, but only an overnight stay in hospital and a week of not doing anything. Although I do have our main pre-school funding event 4 days post-op, so will have to learn to delegate! It is scary, but I've been carrying around these huge appendages fro 15 years and am sick and tired of them, and of being somewhat defined by them. And as my lovely consultant said, they just don't fit with the rest of me. But I will still bear no resemblance to a quail egg bama!

Glad ds is back safely marina, and I'm sure dd will be fine yoyo.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 01/06/2008 17:06

arf at marinas update. Very useful. Archie watched me muck the chickens out yesterday, so he should know what to do next time. Arfishy, you must bring back Evil Victoria, she was really good entertainment value!

I have had a very slack half-term week to recover and it has done wonders. My 'bump' still looks about 6 months pregnant but to take a positive view, that means I've lost 3 months pregnancy bump in just under a week. Some of my stretchier pre-pregnancy clothes fit which means I won't have to do the fashion parade school run tomorrow looking like an empty potato sack.

Food has been fairly good, water consumption is so high the council are considering putting a water meter on me. Have kept face, hands & body moisturised all week but feet have been totally neglected. Am having a good scrub and self-tan session later.

Hope to get back in the swing now DCs back at school.

Have a good week everyone.
