All welcome

Veils drawn over last week...

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Thank you for congratulations. Why does this thread always get sooo busy when I'm absent for a day? I will attempt to catch up later.

lol @ saggErs mug!

We're doing OK but have had too many visitors - having a half-term baby has proved a double-edged sword as there are too many friends with time on their hands...

I am halfway through the lovely food from Cook! We had the pork dijon yesterday.

moonshine · 29/05/2008 09:33

DoN - hope you are making use of all your visitors - they only want to coo over the baby you know so may as well leave them to it .

Welcome back Arfishy and hello to Pecka - what do you think of the Wii Fit?

Arf at mug - had to go and research what a Saggar maker etc etc was. I've never really considered that it was an actual real job!

Drank yesterday(v bad), but faced up to the fact that the holiday is over and cannot do big cooked breakfasts etc every day.

The India/Neris food sounds lovely but for me too it could never be a lifestyle choice. I shall continue to live with the delusion that I can eat what I like as long as I cut back portion sizes and keep on running.

Now I need to think of how to amuse dcs today even though I am tempted to try and serve the Web from my bed (oh the novelty of having a new toy/gadget)...

WideWebWitch · 29/05/2008 09:59

hangover from hell. we're off to the beach though, should blow the cobwebs away.

sw, yes, am doing phase 1 for six months. then onto phase 2 for the rest of my life....

OP posts:
bamamama · 29/05/2008 11:19

hello all. We'll just draw a veil over the hangover www eh? Hope you enjoy your day on the beach.

Duchess, now I know you're busy but do you think we could have some Archie pics on your profile, the chicks are lovely but, y'know...we want to see a tiny baby [rather broody emoticon]

Today I got some work done and went for a nice walk but have been really really tired all day. DS seems to have given up daytime naps and it just makes the day so loooonng. Ah well.

Hope everyone is enjoying their Thurday.

PeckaRolloverAgain · 29/05/2008 11:59

Hi everyone

WWW the india thing looks v interesting - is it a bit likee atkins?

Im wondering if I need something more structured to follow as Im trying to eat anything in moderation. The eat anything bit is fine just the moderation I struggle with!

Today have had roast chicken sandwich and a bowl of tomato soup not bad not bad.

Applied false tan last night (St tropez mousse - rate it highly!!) so Im feeling good about that!

Going to get DD2 down for nap, DD1 off out with friends and bribe DS with something to give me a turn on the wii so I can do some exercise

Marina · 29/05/2008 12:04

Pecka, www is the N&I expert but yes I think it is like Atkins...but different in some respects. Like Moonshine and batters, I am impressed by how it is working out for www, but feel it's not right for me. I think if you do it properly it might also have an interesting impact on your weekly shopping budget!
I have so far lost 10lb (ish) in three weeks on Slimming World, which can be either low-carb, high protein, or complex-carb based, depending on what suits you. I never got on with WeightWatchers and am cautiously pleased with SW. I have a FANTASTIC group leader though, she really is a lovely woman.

yoyo · 29/05/2008 19:29

These school holidays really mess up good intentions! Had a session with the trainer very early this morning. It was so difficult - I thought I was getting much fitter but this showed me just how much work needs to be done. Have also gained a pound but wasn't surprised as I have eaten and drunk so much in the last week.

Have had a reasonable day but did have a lovely pea and mint risotto for tea which was hardly low in calories.

Am aiming for an early night and hopefully a very busy day tomorrow as I feel that today has been a bit of a "nothing" day. Have masses to do before school starts next week so must sort myself out.

unknownrebelbang · 29/05/2008 20:13

Well done Marina!

Cherries in Kirsch wrapped in chocolate was today's delight (so you can see I'm being really sensible foodwise )

Have had a lovely afternoon with DS2+3 walking around a lake (Trentham Saggars, did think it may get spoilt with all the development, but it's still lovely) so 3 mile hike today, whilst DS1 was doing something mildly dangerous-looking in the air with a group of schoolmates.

WideWebWitch · 29/05/2008 21:30

Hello, just popping in to say we had a lovely day at the beach, had a Kahuna burger without the bun or fries in a restaurant at lunchtime, really had a fab day.

No wine today (bleurgh) and about to eat roast chicken

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 29/05/2008 21:31

Very well done Marina, that's fab. Welcome Pecka, yes it's like Atkins but I don't know Atkins. No carbs or sugar.

WWW, I had a bit of a measure this morning (day 4) and I have lost many centimetres

And you know, as I 'm sure you do, I 'm not ravenous at all! In fact when I sit down for lunch (steak stir fried with green pepper, chilli, ginger, garlic and onion in sesame oil with tamari) I took one forkful then stopped to MN for 5 mins before eating the rest, and I ate at a leisurely pace. It really does work, does it not.

But why are you drinking wine . And do you intend to use splenda and the like on Phase 2?

arfishy · 30/05/2008 07:54

LOL at everybody remembering Evil Victoria (TM). To pay back DP for the 'yummy mummy' comment I have bought Guitar Hero III for him to humiliate his middle-aged self with.

Last night I had my 'last supper' at a very expensive nice restaurant and it was yummy - rack of lamb on a bed of parsnip mash with a towering pile of veggies drowning in butter. And several large glasses of chilled NZ Sauvignon Blanc to wash it down. And then had a 'last breakfast' of Eggs Hollandaise on turkish bread. Then went to the weight watchers meeting at 10am for the dreaded weigh-in.

I told Marjorie Dawes the leader that I'd lost a lot of weight with WW after having DD and she pointedly told me that she'd lost her weight and kept it off while staring at my stomach. I can see I'm up against a feisty one here.

So, post-weigh-in I'm 'back on track' and already bored and verging on the sulky.

Now all I've got to do is sort out the exercise. When DD started school I couldn't attend Evil Victoria's 6am sessions as I got home too late for the school run. I have just noticed that she's started up 5.30am ones, but I think that's just sadistic quite frankly.

I'll get going on the Wii Fit to start off. Perhaps a spin class or two.

Well done on the weight loss WWW! Let's see how the Marjorie Plan compares next week after weigh-in.

WideWebWitch · 30/05/2008 08:11

Welcome back Arfy! Of course we remember Victoria

SW, I am on holiday this week, hence drinking wine. India does say you can have some alcohol once you're past the first 2 weeks, which I am, I'm on week 4 or 5 now I think. But probably not a good idea still. And I don't think she meant "neck loads why don't you?" Once I'm back at work next week I will go back on straight and narrow once a week wine, as I was for first 3 weeks. No, eurgh at idea of Splenda. I'd rather have the very occasional REAL treat like proper cheesecake or something or white bread toast and a boiled egg. that I miss.

Marina · 30/05/2008 09:48

If I had the time this am I would post some of the revolting recipes for puddings in SlimyWorld Mag. All involving quark and "articifial sweetener" (which I have discovered I have a genuine and rather nasty reaction to, yay! - well that's my excuse). Honestly I'd sooner eat my own toenail clippings.
Drool at arfy's last supper, although, pleasingly, asparagus is just as lush au naturel, I have discovered
And I've found a quite decent low fat made up salad dressing, Waitrose's Low Fat French. No sweeteners, bless them.
Send us the YouTube link once you have him windmilling to Sweet Child of Mine, please arfy, we could do with a larfy (I have meeting with line manager shortly who makes Evil Victoria look like a Barbara Pym character).
Agree with others that school holidays are a Bad Thing for bootcamp. I spent far too much time yesterday staring pathetically at a box of Krispy Kremes in the kitchen "working from home".

moonshine · 30/05/2008 11:11

What circle of Hell does Victoria actually come from Arfy - 5:30am sessions .

My 8am gym session in comparison seems sadly lacking but did run/walk/crawl more than 5 miles today so feel appropriately knackered glowing now. And I followed it with my fav breakfast atm, soft-boiled egg and rye bread soldiers. But I am on a promise to make some chocolate cornflake cakes today which I am rather partial to.

Marina - well done on weight-loss, you kept that very quiet! I hate all those own-brand WW-type (do SW do them as well?) own meals and puddings they do filled with crap, but I must confess to being a bit of a Diet Coke addict, something I will tackle when I feel mentally strong enough [saddo emoticon].

Managed to drag us all out of the house yesterday for long walk in woods (because I got lost!) but am at a bit of a loss today. Gawd but I am finding school holidays tough to fill atm - I seem to have lost some of my 'entertaining' imagination, But tbh I have also developed a cowardice at taking dcs on tube etc because they are so badly behaved together, winding each other up. Oh well, nearly wine time the weekend.

WWW - have you got your clothes from Laredoute yet? Mind did take an inordinate amount of time to come. I wear the little cardy/shrug thing I got from there a lot.

PeckaRolloverAgain · 30/05/2008 12:14

Hi all

Im doing quite well - these first few days are the hardest and Im using to eating such crap in large quantities that Im quite enjoying this feeling of regulating my appetite back down to something approaching normal.

I resisted an Oreo Mcflurry yesterday when I would have REALLY liked one.

Yesterday I ate Roast chicken sandwich, loads of grapes, small portion of spag bol and an apple.

Today I am having ham salad sandwich and god knows what later - the usual Friday night ritual is a Chinese take away - that will take enormous will power to resist! Or maybe I will have it but opt for healthyish option?

Im finding that, even though I am by no means fit that WiiFit is becoming a bit easy - I have now unlocked all of the aerobics exercises and none of them are really that challenging - wonder if they will bring out more games for it, hope so.

WideWebWitch · 30/05/2008 15:24

pecka, ex dh has promised to buy wiifit for ds so we are hanging on for him to do it. Well done
on resisting Mcflurry.

Have read you all, but can't be arsed to reply to everyone, hope that's ok.

My Laredoute order HASN'T come yet, not v impressed tbh since I ordered it last week. Although dh has just gone to collect a parcel left with neighbours so it's either that or the Jo Malone cologne I ordered for him.

Today
bacon and eggs
went to cinema where dh and ds went to see Indiana Jones and dd and I went to see Nim's Island and then, when that scared her, Horton hears a Who, which was pretty vile. Then went to a pizza restaurant, had a burger, with cheese but sans chips, bun and dressing. Had lettuce and chilli oil instead and half a bottle of Chianti (sorry, as mentioned, am on holiday) and REALLY wanted honeycomb ice cream but came home and had cheese instead.
No idea what we're eating tonight but there is lovely stuff arriving this pm. Suddenly this pm could REALLY do with something sweet but am holding out. Ds is about to eat homemade caramel ice cream we made on Weds, aaagghh.

yoyo · 30/05/2008 19:48

Am being a miserable old boot today. Saw Indiana Jones with DH and DC at very early hour this morning (only time cinema is empty apparently). This was followed with shopping for DD1's adventure holiday (sick feeling in stomach refuses to leave me). Not that successful and have returned home with no joie de vivre. Really enjoyed film - I don't care if he's getting on a bit, he's still lovely.

It is our wedding anniversary today but for the first time ever we have not even exchanged cards let alone anything else. We are even having supper with DC. We will have something sparkling later I'm sure.

Bleeper going. Time to finish off tea.

Well done Marina on weight loss btw.

WideWebWitch · 30/05/2008 19:55

Oh yoyo, sorry you're feeling nervous, understandable and sympathy.

SW, I have lost 1 stone 1lb and would normally weigh myself tomorrow but won't do this week as I think it'll be disheartening due to wine consumption. I started on about the 5th May I think. Might check in a minute, quite interesting to find out but think I'm on week 4/5

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 30/05/2008 19:59

Just checked, it was 4th May I started.
I lost 8lbs in the first week, 4 lbs in the second, and 3 in the third. No idea on the fourth as it would be tomorrow for weighing. So only another 5 months to go but atm that seems do able tbh. And next week will be easy to not drink in the week again as I'm back at work. Dh reckons I look thinner.

OP posts:
Marina · 30/05/2008 22:36

Yoyo, ds is in a field in Essex at the mo, quite possibly up to his oxsters in mud, I sympathise with all my heart
I want my BAYBEE back...but I bet he's had a lovely time. And your dd will too. But we had a doomy "last supper" on Tuesday night, sending you lots of love. We have filled the fridge with a stonking curry for him for tomorrow night...and I have some poncy little "healthy" curries in diddy trays that look like elephant bogies and regurgitated grass to my suspicious eye.
I have found mentally fast-forwarding to his return has helped a lot.
Fab weight loss www well done. Dh says I look thinner but that could be because he fancies his chances (have sent him downstairs to watch the Antidote to Desire, Peep Show).
In haste...good weekend all. Courage, dear Yoyo XXX

arfishy · 30/05/2008 22:59

Great job with the weight loss WWW, you must feel great. Any clothes too big yet?

I've been asleep so have successfully managed to avoid eating anything.

Today I have to find some suitable clothes for DD's school's Tennis Day. I have no idea what to wear but I suspect the look will be a bit preppy and full of bouncing athletic mothers wielding tennis rackets. [horrors]

I might even have to start a thread.

Then off to return Guitar Hero III because we opened it up in great anticipation after DD was in bed only to find the game itself missing.

Yoyo - sorry your day is being so horrible. DD (5) went on her first school trip yesterday. It was a very scary feeling. Although I was pleased to hear the coach had seatbelts, but Taronga Zoo is a big place with cable cars and wild animals and herds of identical looking school children. She came back safe and sound

Today I am going to cook the almost palatable looking WW shepherds pie. I should think that the trauma of the impending Tennis Day is enough to keep me on the straight and narrow.

Bama - sorry didn't reply yesterday. Cheap places to live in Sydney? Whatever you do, don't go West. You can get 4 bed detatched places with pools if you're about 45 minutes North or South of the CBD for $700K. If you're in the East you'll get a 1 bed shitty unit but tempting sea glimpses if you stand on tippy toes and crane your neck slightly.
