All welcome

Veils drawn over last week...

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

can I join up please? Started my healthy living today. Been a bit starving this evening so just munched on a rice cake ( the joys) although DS is tucking into a smarties ice cream cone thing. Will resist the temptation to wrestle him to the floor to have a bite!
No bread or sugar today either. Keep me motivated please ladies! I want to be glowing and a bit lighter for my hols in a months time!

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 21/05/2008 21:53

Oh lord, I can't cope - must learn to speed read. I'm still back down there on the thread confessing to dh being under the patio. (Thanks for the offer of your dh BTW ureb)

I do have an observation though - where is Norks??

I'm with you on bootcamp lite Iota. My tick is against no booze but otherwise I need bootcamp help or a slap. Tis 8 weeks to my hols, please tell me all is not lost? Still no running so I'm going to sign up at the gym on Friday

JJ - I'm thinking of you and ds - you know that Blu's ds going for his leg lengthening in the first week of June? Not sure if it's the same hospital. You could check on her blog.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 21/05/2008 21:56

Welcome bigspender.

Catch up with huuuuge thread tomorrow as I am watching the football and rushing off to check the progress of the hatching chicks every 5 minutes. So exciting. 6 eggs so far have teeny holes in though you can see a bit of fluff through one of them.

Nothing happening with my own hatch though.

Cereal; apples; raw carrots; ham & coleslaw roll; fig roll biscuit; vanilla slice; quiche with rocket & tomato salad; strawberries & cream and meringue. Lots and lots of water today. 1 coffee.

Flexitolled last night, slept badly, sunscreen & moisturisers a-plenty.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 21/05/2008 21:58

Haha! Cross-post with saggars! Sorry if you thought I was busy with newborn.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 21/05/2008 22:01

Hello

Thought you might be otherwise engaged. I think you should check in twice daily until delivery.

unknownrebelbang · 21/05/2008 22:01

Oooh, you've been busy today!

  • Sunscreen yes
  • No booze.
  • 2 mile hike, plus 20 mins twister.
  • Lots of water/weak tea
  • Apply body cream lax
  • Use hand cream lax
  • Go to bed early, 10ish, although struggled to get to sleep - I was cold, unlike me.
  • Eat healthily. soso.
  • Be happy. Tired still. Happy though - have been informed tonight that the supply teacher for DS2+3 won't be used again (he finishes on Friday). Thought their usual teacher was a pita, but we're (almost) jumping for joy at his return.
Marina · 21/05/2008 22:02

I lost 4.5lbs, hurrah! and won a phallic banana-protector in the raffle (second prize was a packet of beetroot). It's not Neris and India that's for sure, but am v. pleased.
Saggars, I was just wondering where Norks was too. Hope the cowshed has not collapsed on her. Have you forgiven dh yet?
Welcome bigspender - I've been low carb for a week, www zero carbs for a fortnight, and I can honestly say that even if I look like a dented old oil can, I do feel glowing and a lot better for it!
Bundle, when did dh realise he hadn't got his wallet...before or after you mentioned Hix?
JJ, I think Blu's ds' op is at a different hospital - is your ds being seen at the same place he went for his scans etc?
Yoyo, well done on the gym efforts and come on back Iota, we miss you!
LOL at your dh's gumby way with steack au fromage bleu, www. Tut

Marina · 21/05/2008 22:03

Oh what a relief re the supply teacher ureb. I am counting the days until ds' form teacher leaves and we can be 101% sure she will never have contact with a child of ours again

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 21/05/2008 22:06

I've forgiven him ureb. He's shot himself in the foot actually as I've just had an email about tickets for England v USA and he can't go because he's working. Unsympathetic? Moi?

PMSL at the phallic raffle winnings. Sounds an exciting list of prizes Well done on the weight loss.

Marina · 21/05/2008 22:08

Norks is over on the Ocado thread complaining their dog food freebies are not big enough for her Great Dane

Marina · 21/05/2008 22:08

Hahahaha PMSL about the footie tickets saggars, that's karma

JJ · 21/05/2008 22:21

Is WWW blond? You're joking. She must have lovely chin-ish length straight but not super duper straight brown hair with subtle highlights. At least that's my mental image and I refuse to believe otherwise.

Thanks for all the sympathies. There are worse things and we have lots of help and I'm not working so have time to get everything that needs to be done done. If I moan, please take it with a grain of salt, although I do appreciate the "poor yous". I think Blu's son's op is soon, too. He's at a different hospital though, damn.

I haven't read the Taubes book through; it's very very dry and more academic than it needs to be. The book is based on the ideas in this article although I believe some of the initial hypotheses in the article were disproven in the course of researching the book.

DS is 10, dino - and the Steam Fair is on this weekend in Vicky Park, whoo hoo. He asked if he could ride the bumper cars and got a screechy "nnooooooo" as an answer which he, ds2 and dh all found hilarious. They exist to wind me up, I think.

Thanks all for the offers of help. L&S, we might see you at the Lido sometime. I'll be the rather plump woman with the long haired boy with a walking stick and perhaps a 6yo boy built like a linebacker (uk equiv = rugby player?) We're American, so the accents will help identify us. SMBK - thanks for the kind emails.

  • Sunscreen at all times : yes
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it : no booze
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can : no exercise, boo hiss
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day : yes
  • Apply body cream as often as possible : reminds me I need to shower but then yes
  • Use hand cream : yes
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos : very soon after shower
  • Eat healthily : yes(ish)
  • Be happy : lovely sunshiney day, so happy enough!
JJ · 21/05/2008 22:23

Have crossposted with a fair few people, sorry! Ack. In the interest of the early night thing, will just say goodnight to everyone.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 21/05/2008 22:57

I am still here!!! Posted on this thread before I ventured over to the Ocado one!

Anyway, the first chick is OUT. Half-closed eyes, damp and dinosaur-looking and is stumbling about cheeping to all the other eggs. Photo's tomorrow.

bamamama · 22/05/2008 04:53

What a hugely busy thread! Thank you ladies for making me laugh. A lot.

DH has, what we call, the 'trousers of truth' hanging up in our bedroom. Once he can get into them, the diet's off.

Bootcamping slightly out of the window this week, I've had wine most nights but for good reason, dh was promoted at his UK institution so we've been celebrating. I've also just been out for lunch and had a coffee and a chocolate brownie so I still have some work on the sensible food and not just cake issue. Ah well.

Enjoy the rest of your week.

tortoiseSHELL · 22/05/2008 08:28

Hi everyone, I've been lolling at this thread! Not great bootcamping in the TS house, but as ever, resolved to do better. Well done everyone who has lost weight! I love the 'trousers of truth' idea!

September sounds great for a meet up www - although we might all be knackered after the summer holidays! Count me in!

I didn't do much walking yesterday, but did do a couple of hours hard weeding in the garden which I think must count for something - I was certainly quite tired afterwards, so some energy must have been expended!

Ds2 is much much better marina, rash reached his legs yesterday, along with a fairly unpleasant nappy (tmi) so I'm hopeful the virus will drop out of his toes today! IF it was measles (which I'm doubting) then it was incredibly mild, and not worth worrying about, but I think the doc was probably correct in 'nonspecific virus' or rather 'I don't have a clue!'.

lol - is it for carrying bananas around safely? For 1 banana or for many?

Marina · 22/05/2008 10:41

brace yourself torty
The Group Leader advised me to try and take it through airport security.
It is not on my desk, it went in with dd, with a teeny banana somewhere inside. She looked liked someone from one of those Wrigley's ads, it's nearly as big as she is
Well done on the whittled waist batters, you know its all about muscle weighing more than fat etc, and a great start
LOL at Trousers of Truth, I must hang up the Skirt of Skweeze tonight
Iota, or if you like you could cancel the gym and spend the proceeds on pampering treats for us if guilt prevents you spending it on your good self
TS, if he's done the download I reckon he will be feeling masses better today, hope that is true
I might borrow Neris and India from the library to read their wise words
Looking forward to chick photos and a report from www on her new finery
Our weekend will mostly consist of arguing about which of four near identical dishwashers to buy and tooling ds up for his camping trip next week
Have a happy day, all

tortoiseSHELL · 22/05/2008 10:44

pmsl marina! I DARE you to try and take it through airport security.

Marina · 22/05/2008 10:44

Dh fainted when I produced it from my handbag

bundle · 22/05/2008 10:56

ahem @ the bananacase
