All welcome

Veils drawn over last week...

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Just running through as DB is staying and I'm about to take him shopping in town in return for him minding DS while I get my hair coloured (crossing fingers that DS does not choose this time to go into psycho-meltdown, as my DB is, literally, 10yy (than me) and would not, I suspect, cope well).

But! had to say, bama, lolol at the 'trousers of truth'. My current equivalent is the 't-shirt of hope' - a bee-yoo-tiful very fitted tshirt from the posh shop on the high street near me which I bought and loved for three and a half seconds last summer before discovering I was up duff. Fitted is not a good look on post-child stomach.

Actually, have decided that now DS is two months old, I need to start fitting some sit-ups into my day if I ever want to regain my waist. I'm thinking I'll begin with 20 and - well, and probably stick at 20 and forget to do those, if I'm honest . But I'm going to add this to my bootcamp rules.

JJ - will look out for you at the lido!

And count me well and truly in for a meet-up: splendid idea.

bamamama · 22/05/2008 11:13

Ha ha at banana case. Is it yellow? Preferable to beetroot though?

T-shirt of hope sounds very noble. You really did hit the jackpot with your wardrobe before finding out you were pregnant - skinny jeans and fitted t-shirt? Asking for trouble.

Have to go, dh back and I need to pretend I'm actually working.

In fairness his hands are just as lizardy, he is an equal partner in domestic servitude
Case is indeed very yellow, with disconcerting air slats a la Hannibal Lecter

Iota · 22/05/2008 14:51

LOL at the banana case - have you read the comments from the previous purchaser who couldn't find a banana to fit in it?

I can imagine taking with you on the weekly shop and measuring your way through the banana display, in order to purchase appropriately sized bananas.

savings on gym membership (£120) will probably be frittered away on buying petrol for the car!

yoyo · 22/05/2008 16:05

Batters - 4 cm off your waist is fab. I will get the trainer to redo my measurements after I have been tortured for a month. I refused to look at them when she did them but they were logged on some profile thingy along with all the other unmentionable measurements.

"Trousers of Truth" made me laugh. DH has such a pair that he looks at longingly on occasion. Think he'd be gutted if I hung them on the wardrobe door.

Marina - what did your DH's extensive study of washing machines lead you to buy? Must get a new one very soon. Well done on your SlimyWorld loss (and the banana guard).

Much running around after children to do as well as sort out tea and work through massive pile of ironing.

All good on Bootcamp although not much exercise today yet.

moonshine · 22/05/2008 17:06

I am loving that banana case - lol that it was first prize in raffle. And well done to 4lbs off. The grit Special K is almost worth the effort then, eh?

And well done on whittling your waist away Batters - I would happily stay the same weight if I could tone certain bits of me up (although tone sounds a bit too gentle to do the job). How many times do you go a week?

I have almost assembled a sort of gym-at-home when I was even poorer than now; in fact I would exercise totally at home if I could just sort the cardio bit out. I have a rebounder which is great fun but for me there is nothing like a good sweaty run on the treadmill (and I am too cowardly and self-conscious to go running in the great outdoors). But I do have some weights and a gym ball (and a skipping rope but hate skipping ) so think it would be more than doable on the cheap.

Bought some more Ed Gein L'Oreal mask things today. I found they do really freshen up your face, although the effect is temporary, but might see what happens with some regular use of them.
Food - ok (lots of fruit and complex carbs but + daily occasional small packet of crisps but need to up my veg intake)

Exercise - haven't been able to get to gym since Sunday but my can go tomorrow.

Moisturiser - check

Feet - oops, must actually use the tube of flexitol lying in my draw.

Sunscreen - using the Soltan Once on face and bits that are exposed.

But danger weekend looming....

moonshine · 22/05/2008 17:09

And WWW - I have recently bought some stuff from LaRedoute, including an £11 dress! Must compare notes when you get your delivery.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 22/05/2008 17:36

I used to have trousers of truth but I've decided they're big feckin liars and I've consigned them to the charity bag.

Have bitten the bullet and booked gym induction for tomorrow at 8.30 It's going to cost £20 a monthe for unlimited access which was a pleasant surprise.

Glad ds is much better TS.

PMSL at dh's reaction to the protector Marina. Did he think you were going to ask him to test it?

WideWebWitch · 22/05/2008 20:31

MY CHILDREN HAVE BEEN A FKING PAIN IN THE ARSE THIS EVENING! I just said to dh that sometimes (quite rarely really in fact) find not being able to come in and just sit down HORRIBLE. I felt v tired today,as woke at 5am and didn't get back to sleep so by the time I got in at 6.50pm was knackered but had to a) take washing off line on way into house - wanted to wear one item tomorrow b) speak to children c) speak to dh, d) make my lunch for tomorrow e) take today's lunch out of bag and put in dishwasher f) think about supper and put it on (dh has done every other day this week as he pointed out) g) take make up off h) get clothes ready for morning i) break up STUPID row because ds had hurt dd playing a STUPID game involving falling backwards onto the bed. We probably only v narrowly missed A&E/The Morgue as it is a double bed with an iron head thing and had he cracked his head on it from a great height ... needless to say he didn't appreciate my roaring safety instructions. Anyway, they are all calm now, I've apologised for shouting, dd is in our bed and has stopped crying, ds is asleep having retracted "I don't like you" statement. Needless to say it all kicked off as I lifted the first forkful of food to my mouth.

Thanks for listening.

Bigspender, of course you can join, you're very welcome! Hi.

Saggars, 8 weeks is LOADS of time! It's that long til my weekend away in hotel with dh too so let's both aim for improvement by then hey?

DofN, how lovely about the chicks but blimey at no baby yet. We are waiting....

unknown, that sounds like a good list and good news on the teacher

4.5lb Marina, that's GREAT, well done. Your banana thing made me laugh a lot as did batters comment about coming that close to beetroot, dammit! ha ha ha

JJ, you've been doing well! I'm not naturally blonde, if it helps but have been artificially so for about 9 years. I am thinking of going back to my natural colour once I'm thinner. Eeek!

Bama, trousers of truth, ha ha, great name. I must call mine the same I think.

TS, glad it's prob not measles and gardening does count.

Batters, wow at cm loss on waist. we haven't got a tape measure so I havent measured anything, must buy one. And The Apprentice was good wasn't it, HOW did slimy Michael get away with it AGAIN?

Marina and Yoyo, on the dishwasher front, I started a long thread when we bought ours not that long ago, will find it in a minute, I'm VERY happy with the one we got, especially the fact that it has a flat cutlery tray right at the top so no basket with holes in for cutlery to drop through. It really is fab.

L&S lol at Tshirt of hope. Yes, agree with bama, that was the equivalent of lighting a fag to make a bus come along, buying skinny jeans and a teeny t shirt Hope you enjoyed the hairdresser.

Moonshine, we will compare, I got LOADS for that money lots of it was £8 and stuff. What's dangerous about your weekend? Do tell!

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 22/05/2008 20:50

Today

2 haddock 'muffins'
salad with spinach, pink salmon from a tin with BONE that got stuck in my throat and is still there I tihnk, it's a TINY one but v irritating all the same, green beans, anchovies, vinaigrette
assorted cheeses
brazil nuts
and thrown together supper was actually v nice: chicken thighs chucked in oven with salt, olive oil, flattened garlic cloves and about 2 lemons cut up, squeezed over and thrown in, fresh basil added after half an hour, served with green beans and broccoli.

And dh taped Desp Housewives so will watch that in a minute but will DEF be in bed by 10...

Nearly the weekend, nearly the weekend...

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 22/05/2008 20:55

HERE is my long dishwasher thread

Look at this to see what I mean about the top tray for cutlery, it saves SO much space, you can get loads in without the annoying basket

Have to say I am v pleased with the Miele we got and expect it to last some years so think over that time it will turn out to not be as expensive as it looks.

Too much to read for a woman who can't sit down for very long because of her fiendish piles. [pull whatever face you like emoticon]

I've had a lovely day with our new chicks! The DCs actually saw the 6th one hatch when they went to say goodnight to the other 5. Of course they don't appreciate how FORTUNATE that was and think mummy is a saddo for being so over-excited. And the car passed it's MOT without requiring £££s of work, which is probably a first. And the sun was out.

Food all good, lots of water, limited coffee, moisturiser and hand cream done. I even had 40 minute nap whilst DH bathed the DCs. Utter bliss.

No baby. Perhaps I'll finally get one that arrives on it's due date?

Sympathies www. I've had a screaming rather trying evening with my little darlinks....only saved by DS1 being picked up to do an errand for scouts, and then once he was back me and DH going for a half-hour walk (which nearly feckin killed me - I am soooo unfit - and this was uphill for the first half!!)

I'm too tired to read the thread properly, will catch up tomorrow, but well done Marina, great start, and Batters - 4 cms is impressive.

  • Sunscreen yes
  • No booze.
  • 30 min walk, plus 30 mins twister.
  • Lots of water/weak tea
  • Apply body cream lax
  • Use hand cream lax
  • Go to bed early, 11ish,
  • Eat healthily. soso. DH bought choc, grrr, and then I ate it whilst in a strop, so didn't enjoy it at all. Double empty calories, grrr.
  • Be happy. Tired. Happy though - week off after a manic day tomorrow. Did enjoy a stroll on the common opposite the boys' school with DS2, while we waited for DS3. So easy to forget it's there iykwim.

Seven weeks to a planned night/weekend away with DH, if our plans all come together. Very much reliant on camps and things, lol.

Plus we have a wedding on the 7th August, so that's my next target.

I too have hands like Mother Theresa's Sobernow. Welcome back and sorry you've had a somewhat trying few weeks. about your FIL.

I'm just about to drop dd at school and go to the gym (which is attached to school so I'll really have no excuses not to go) I was hoping someone might be around to tell me that I'm mistaken; that I'm svelte, fit and toned and don't need to put myself through it. Anyone? No? Oh well.

JJ · 23/05/2008 10:03

Oooh, they have chicks at the Museum of Science and Industry and I love watching them hatch. Glad you got to see it!

Very sorry about your father-in-law, sobernow. I hope you get some rest and peace soon.

Got some footless leggings from La Redoute yesterday. I know they're a bit naff but the alternative is people being able to see my knees in a couple of skirts and no one wants that, trust me.

I am going to the gym today, too, I think. Am impressed that moonshine had stuff at home and actually used it! I don't think I could do that. I'm sure I wouldn't.

Was good yesterday. Jogged, ate well (resisted leftover pancakes, go me), had water, no booze... erm, ok, good-ish. No body cream (skipped shower, yuck, I know), no handcream, not to bed early. Have started off today with toast with Nutella and bananas which I've decided is ok because it's homemade (bread machine made) wholewheat bread, nuts and bananas which are good for mood, aren't they? If not, I'll think of some other reason they're v good to eat .

yoyo · 23/05/2008 11:37

Sobernow -- so sorry to hear about your FIL. My Grandmother was diagnosed with cancer and died within four weeks; it is exhausting (physically and emotionally) and I am not surprised that it has been fast food and coffee. Hope your DH is okay. It didn't hit my mother hard until a few weeks later as she had been running around trying to be organised. We thought she had a few months but sadly it wasn't to be.

JJ and Saggars - I was in the gym at 8 this morning. Another gruelling session but I am rather enjoying it too. I refuse to believe that I can't do things so am enjoying the challenges posed by the trainer. I have weak lower abdominals apparently. Might my three children have anything to do with that I wonder? Lots of pelvic tilting over the next few days.

No work today as two of the DC have an Inset day. An afternoon of cooking and baking ahead with two willing helpers but first I need a coffee!

Marina · 23/05/2008 11:39

Morning all - good to see you posting again sobernow, was wondering why we hadn't seen you about - but am so sorry to hear about your FIL To lose him so fast after dx must have been a horrid shock.
Yesterday was a good one in terms of walking, water, eating and cream.
Slept in badly this morning and am still playing catch-up with myself
Half term beckons next week, yay!

moonshine · 23/05/2008 12:06

Sobernow - welcome and back - so sorry to hear about your FIL. My friend once worked with Joan Collins on something and she is indeed apparently fanatical about always wearing a huge hat or staying out of the sun.

WWW - dangerous weekend not that exciting (well only for me). The danger is, because dh and I are going away, there will be 3 huge meals and vats of booze to contend with (and I know I will fight a losing battle).

I had to lol at all the love's young dreams at work who wistfully thought I would be spending the whole time in bed - we are waaay pat that stage in our relationship.

Whoops will we back later, the man from Tiscali has arrived....
