All welcome

Veils drawn over last week...

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Hello all, am back after a traumatic few months, ready to look after myself a bit and restart the bootcamp. But I see the emphasis has , ahem, changed slightly.....do I detect a slight jerry springer feel to the title?

Have just caught up on the thread and have been lol at banana holders and trousers of truth. I have a bra of indignity that alerts me to weight gain by snapping open at inopopportune moments (as happened in a meeting this week - discovered a strap flying free and had to try and hide it while still maintaining interested and attentive demeanour to colleagues).

So...my aims are:

  • cut down on the alcohol again (have got back into bad drinking-in-the-week habits)
  • improve water intake - have got v slack
  • sort out my terrible feet - the flexitol is back at the side of the bed.
  • cut out croissant and coffee fix in the mornings - definitely a comfort eating habit established when things were extremely tough at home I I felt the need to reward myself gfor just making it into work.

Am away for a few days at the weekend for (possibly) romantic break with DH - so bootcamping proper will start next week.

Revelation of the month skin wise - having been a Liz Earle addict the credit crunch has driven me to more budget options and I am now a fan of simple face was and age repair moisturiser - my skin looks great on it.

Also have treated myself to this dress in blue and orange - which I can report is miraculously flattering on 40 year old stomachs....

Marina · 23/05/2008 12:43

foo, good to see you back too, was wondering how you are! Good to hear things are OK enough for a weekend away to be planned, do hope it goes well
That is a lovely dress and lol at the bra of indignity!

foothesnoo · 23/05/2008 13:49

hey Marina, congratulations on weight loss - v impressive!

Yes, things are good, much better, has been a bit of a shot in the arm for our marriage (albeit one I wouldn't wish on anyone - NOT a good way to improve your relationship..)From the ten years younger point of view - think I aged 10 years in the first few months of the year so although I now look like I did before Christmas in comparison I look fantastic!

moonshine · 23/05/2008 14:27

Sorry Foosthenoo, I don't know your history but welcome! Where are you going for your romantic weekend? Lovely dress by the way.

I am very happy atm as am finally wireless and various other blips have been fixed by the lovely tiscali men. Now all I need is my own laptop and a lock on the bedroom door...

Can I be extra smug at having been in the gym at 7am this morning? But I needed it with weekend of excess ahead.

Speaking of bras, after we discussed them on this thread a few weeks I have been mulling over my size and so I tried a smaller back size - and it has hoisted my norks up to unprecedented heights! So thank you (and I think it was Batters whose going down a back size inspired me to give it a go).

Have a good weekend all although I shall probably be back with my new toy.

cerys · 23/05/2008 14:41

Another long lost bootcamper returning to the fold...!

Sobernow, sorry to hear about your FIL.

I have had a really shite few weeks and they are not over. My lovely DH found a lump in one of his testicles and had to have it removed, and we are still waiting 4 weeks later for the results. According to his GP it was cancerous but of a type which has great recovery rate so all fingers and toes crossed. He still hasn't had the consultant's diagnosis/explanation so we feel in limbo.
On top of this my MIL has been in and out of hospital and it isn't looking too hopeful. Then my FIL collapsed in the night from trying to care for MIL, who over the course of this week has become totally incontinent. DH and BIL have had to look after them and sort things out, with the help of their fabulous auntie.

So I am back but strict bootcamping unlikely for a while as meals have become a bit of a haphazard affair and my running is but a distant memory....

yoyo · 23/05/2008 15:02

Sorry to read about your DH Cerys (and MIL and FIL). Hope his results come through soon. Have you actually rung the hospital about the delay? Four weeks is an incredibly long time to wait when you are obviously desperate to hear from them.

Moonshine - did you have to get up ridiculously early to eat before gymming at seven? I struggled and I was there at 8.

Children nagging me to "get the casserole going". They are probably right though.

Hello all,

No booze last night, and early night by my standards, plus healthy eating all day yesterday (okay I had two biscuits as well but they were Hobnobs, which are healthy in my book).

Bought some new jeans at lunchtime and while they are a size 10 which is not bad, they are rather spoilt by huge overhanging flaps of belly skin so had to buy longish top to wear with them to cover up.

Time to get back on the Pilates trail, there is no alternative (apart from rather radical surgery).

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 23/05/2008 19:23

Welcome back all!

Thank goodness school is over for a week. I am thoroughly sick of people saying 'haven't you had it yet'. I'm not due until Monday. AIBU to punch them hard in the face if I'm overdue when school goes back? OK. Rant over.

Apart from all that I had a very nice day looking after our 9 fluffy chicks and pottering about in the sunshine.

Food: no breakfast ; coffee; crab salad sandwich; kiwi & strawberries; raw carrots & mushrooms; sweet & sour chicken & rice; key lime pie. DS1 has eaten almost half of the not-very-big pie so there isn't much left! Lots of water.

Bed before 12, slept reasonably well. Face/hands/body & feet all moisturised.

WideWebWitch · 23/05/2008 21:06

Cerys, sorry to hear your news and welcome back.

Sobernow, I hope you're ok. Impressed at your cleavage though, mine is terrible, despite avoiding sun all my life. I haven't been good at using sunscreen on it

Welcome back foo and the dress is lovely

Dino at size 10!

Yoyo, well done at gym at 8am and to Moonshine at 7am, v impressive.

Moonshine, I think a w/e away is licence to eat, drink and be merry tbh

DofN, fluffy chicks sound lovely and yes "haven't you had it yet" comments are irritating. Do you feel like saying "does it fking look like I have?"

unknown, 7 Aug is do able as a target I reckon!

I am now on holiday (well, not going anywhere, but not working) for NINE whole days, woo hoo.

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 23/05/2008 21:08

Today

2 haddock muffins
smoked salmon and cream cheese wraps
some cheese and salami
brazil nuts
and about to have quails eggs, prawns, cheese, salami and Champagne. Then will go back on not drinking for the next week I think. So far I've done v well on that front, quite pleased with myself. Only 1 night of alcohol so far in 3 weeks. I am in the habit of not drinking, definitely.

Happy weekend everyone.

All was going well until late last night where one glass of wine led to another and the hours passed until it was 2 a.m. That is my confession. Felt very happy though.

Feeling fine at the moment but definitely not bright of eye or bushy of tail.

suzywong · 24/05/2008 11:11

I have had no fresh fruit or vegetables for 48 hours and I just ate a jumbo sized crunchie

Man it was GOOD

WideWebWitch · 24/05/2008 12:35

Oh away with you Wong with yer Crunchie and scurvy.

Sobernow, glad you're sleeping again.

Yoyo, dh and I drank a bottle of Champagne and a bottle of pink cava last night and stayed up until about 1.30am too but it was most enjoyable so worth it imo on the happiness front, especially as ds took dd downstairs and gave us a lie in until 9am. Lovely boy, I take it all back, my whinging about them earlier in the thread.

And I weighed myself this morning and I've lost another 2/3lbs, taking my total lost to ONE STONE over the last three weeks! I am most happy. I have a way to go but this is such a flying start and I honestly haven't been hungry and have enjoyed my food. As dh said, I can be quite foodie on this diet given that cheese and meat and cream are allowed. And that's given the wine last Saturday and last night. I will abstain again now until next Friday I think.

Happy, happy, happy!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 24/05/2008 14:25

WOW WWW !!!

Marina · 24/05/2008 14:44

Oh, well done www! Fabulous result . Agree that Neris and India is very foodie. There are some abominations on the Free Foods list for SW that are not going to darken our door - artificial sweetener for one and Quark for another. Feeling good and positive just the same, like you. We are going to have the mother and father of all personal shopper experiences some time in early 2009 methinks
Just swinging by and saying welcome back to Cerys too - but sorry you have been having such a worrying and upsetting time. Hope you get the results and the consultant appointment very soon and the GP's views are accurate.
Am having a good day food and water-wise and about to go into tidying overdrive as the house looks like a council recycling centre at the mo

LoveAndSqualor · 24/05/2008 15:19

WWW! fantastic work, well done. Sounds like you had a great night, too.

Welcome back to all the rejoiners; sobernow, so sorry to hear about your FIL, and cerys, about your DH - am thinking of you. Waiting must be horribly stressful

All quiet here - at last - DS, having decided to spend every moment when not sleeping or feeding yelling at the top of his lungs, has finally gone down for a nap. I find myself feeling quite keen on him when he's asleep .

Just had a lovely lunch of goats' cheese, tomato salad and bread, and lots of water, and am spending the day (when not attending to shouty child) pottering around tidying up and so forth (and reading the paper/generally loafing, as befits a Saturday). Friends coming round for food tonight, so that will be nice. Imagine a glass or two of wine may pass my lips, however

Enjoy your bank holiday weekends

suzywong · 24/05/2008 16:14

actually I 'm going to be back on this thread from Monday as all good diets start on monday do they not? ANd I know it's not a diet thread but it may help reduce my back-fat and that's all I care about.

How is everyone anyway?

WideWebWitch · 24/05/2008 16:20

Well good luck to you Wong and we will welcome you back.

I am marvellous actually, very happy atm.

JJ · 24/05/2008 17:25

Cerys, really sorry about your MIL and FIL and the stress you're going through. Blimey that's a long time to wait for results for your husband. I hope you get them soon.

Everyone seems to be doing so well with the gym / diet / lovely weekend plans. I did get to the gym yesterday but food-wise was crap. And today I had churros for lunch. Chocolate churros from the fair, so that was ok? I have to admit that I only got to the gym because I felt slack compared to the early morning gymmers. It was well worth it and I spent some time in the hydrotherapy bits, bliss.

  • Sunscreen at all times - oops, no
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it - no booze
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can - gym with weights and everything
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day - yes
  • Apply body cream as often as possible - yes
  • Use hand cream - yes, but probably not enough
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos - oh, I can't remember, probably?
  • Eat healthily - No but not terribly
  • Be happy - am coping but on the edge of losing it at times, ack! Thank god for Blinc Kiss Me mascara

And hello suzywong! Nice to see you around, back fat and all. Agree that all good diets start on Monday or the first working day after a holiday.

suzywong · 24/05/2008 17:28

Hello! JJ
how's your 'roid?
Mine is well under control now. but thank you for all your reassurance when times were rough for me.
How are the dear little JJ boys?
Are you in Blighty now?

I have a divine bottle of Rioja beside me and it does make an exquisite change from the rather heavy but plentiful reds of Western Australia.

Carry on, as you were

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 24/05/2008 18:44

I survived the gym - have to go on Monday to meet the lovely 'Gaz' to get my 'personalised' training programme. I have a mental picture of 'Gaz' being like the one from 'Two pints of lager'. Hoping not otherwise I may not be able to keep a straight face.

Still no booze [smug] but licking my lips at the thought of your Rioja suzy.

I am also www's cracking weightloss and of lovely Bank Holiday plans. My derision of dh is renewed.

Hello Cerys - sorry to read about your dh and your in-laws, health worries are the pits.
