All welcome

Veils drawn over last week...

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Hello everyone, flying by as I have my little brother staying and we're about to head out to the park!

Marina, at the boys in your dd's class - sounds like she responded splendidly. Has she considered sterminating them, I wonder?

Tshell, lol at the chip butties - a staple of pretty much every childhood meal at my dad's house. In fact, we'd have our food (say, fish fingers, chips and beans) on our main plate, and a side plate of bread and butter, so we could fashion our own butties at the table. Happy days ... Perhaps this explains my own carb obsession.

JJ, good grief - your poor ds and poor you. Hope you're ok, and yikes about the descent of the mothers.

Bootcamp meltdown here. Ds has been yelling his head off for the past few days (why? why?!) (actually, have come to the conclusion that it is simply because he is of a grumpy disposition ), so I have resorted to mainlining the aforementioned carbs, with added chocolate. And wine. Ah well ...

bundle · 21/05/2008 11:27

prufrock, lol @ my stance on homeopathy...I think it's a massively untapped resource namely an enhanced placebo - but whatever floats your boat, x

keep up the good work ladies, dh is taking me out to lunch, where should we go???

SixSpotBurnet · 21/05/2008 11:33

Can I (re)join? WWW, forgive me, for I have sinned?

I was going great guns earlier this year but the wheels have come off, big time . Am now back to snacking too much, drinking too much alcohol, not walking enough, no yoga or Pilates either.

I feel absolutely exhausted - the most tired I've been since DS3 was a non-sleeping baby!

Still, today the sun is shining, I walked from Islington to WC2 (albeit slowly), I've had a banana and some yogurt and fruit puree, and only one coffee so far.

(It's Dinosaur, btw, for those of you who haven't spotted me (no pun intended) already.

bundle · 21/05/2008 11:38

impressive walking 6spot...i got the tube, but dh is cycling in most days to teh south bank. forgot my purse so had no breakfast or coffee! still, have told him, and persuaded him to take me to lunch...

Marina · 21/05/2008 11:42

JJ love, I meant to get back to you on your late post on the old thread. Is there anything London Mners can do to help? I'll let tigermoth know too, not sure if you are directly in touch with her right now.
Bundy, I want you to go to Nix or whatever it's called in Cowgate Lane, and eat a delicious lunch, and then report back in detail. Have a smashing time wherever you do go
L&S, I honestly think you are entitled with a shouty baby. Even my dsis, an austere fitness fiend who actually likes sprouting alfalfa and the like, has let things go somewhat since the birth of the Niecelet. Thankfully she has also stopped asking me incredulously why I can't find time to get to the gym every day, bwahahahaha.
He is telling you he loves you . We love you too and we aren't even shouting.

Marina · 21/05/2008 11:43
bundle · 21/05/2008 11:45

cowgate lane? can't see anything on google..

SixSpotBurnet · 21/05/2008 11:45

JJ, are you still living in E9? If so, is there anything we can do? What age is the DS in question? Would he like to borrow some books perhaps? My DSs are nearly 9, nearly 7 and nearly 4 so we have lots of books etc.

Marina · 21/05/2008 11:49

Doh! Try, er, here
Well, I was sort of right

bundle · 21/05/2008 11:50

thanks!

bundle · 21/05/2008 11:51

gosh that looks yummy...may have to save that one for an evening out, with lots of wine! x

LoveAndSqualor · 21/05/2008 12:00

Aw, Marina, I'm blushing! . ooh, I'm heading over towards that restaurant today (actually it's just round the corner from my work). Looks lovely. Perhaps I should ask my editor to take me when I go in to discuss my work return date (hollow laugh - it'll be pizza express all the way)

JJ, if you're E9, I'm nearby too (N16). Do shout if there's anything I can do (on mat leave, so v able to lend a hand if you get swamped).

Marina · 21/05/2008 12:27

Scope it for us L&S and then we can go there on a Bootcamp Spree

WideWebWitch · 21/05/2008 13:54

This thread has just made me laugh a LOT, very loudly (thank goodness am in my kitchen and not at work), especially at your dd and ds's picture of Dr Who Marina, ha ha, bless her, she sounds lovely. They both do, yoga, ha ha. Hanging up the skirt sounds like a good idea and you're right, diets almost certainly all work if we stick to them. Although I think I can stick to this. It's eat less, exercise more, basically, innit?

JJ that book looks interesting, I just read the Amazon reviews. Have you read it?
Sympathy on your ds, poor love, that will be tough for him and you. But I laughed at your bit about your mother too, sorry. But much sympathy as well. My mum came for 5 days when dd was born and it really was long enough. If doing all this stuff helps you feel better then great. Some of us have found that when we're stressed all this looking after ourselves stuff helps a lot. With odd forays into vast vats of vino, obviously

Ts, is it measles then? And if so are you all ok?

L&S, I remember saying (well, might have been shrieked actually) to dh#1, when we'd just had ds and he'd asked 'why is he crying?' "THERE ISN'T ANY LOGIC TO IT, I DON'T BLOODY KNOW!" Hope it stops soon and you gotta do what you gotta do to get through it.

Bundle, how lovely being taken out to lunch, please do come and report back so we can slaver over it!

Dino (I was thinking who's sixspotburnet?) of COURSE you can come back! How's your new (ish) job? Sorry you feel crap but honestly, this stuff will help you feel better.

We must do a bootcamp meet up at some point, mustn't we? Can we do it when I'm slim? Er (slimMer, I mean It would be lovely to meet all the bootcampers I haven't met. What do we reckon everyone? September? To counter back to school blues? Somewhere with lots of wine and fine food? London?

OP posts:
tortoiseSHELL · 21/05/2008 13:58

www - I don't think it can be measles, or if it is, it's very mild! He has had the right symptoms/rash etc, but given that he's on the mend I'm not stressing about it!

I think a meetup sounds FAB! If you arrange one I will definitely come to London! Or you're all welcome to descend on Bristol!

Marina · 21/05/2008 14:06

Am definitely up for a meet and will be wearing my skirt, even if it is tied round one of my pudgy little arms
TS glad to hear he is on the mend - measles is not always the apocalyptic scenario depicted by the DoH and the collaborationist media, of course but agree it doesn't sound very plausible. Could it be rubella?
JJ, SixSpot, www speaks for us all very eloquently, as ever. You can either be on this thread and be bootcamping with intent and encouragement, or you can be hanging round for the craic. The latter is essential when the chips are down elsewhere IME. It is a good place to be regardless of your measurable success!

SixSpotBurnet · 21/05/2008 15:52

Ooh yes, a meet-up would be good!

SixSpotBurnet · 21/05/2008 17:22

Hello again to you too, batters!

LOL at Marina, "just hanging around for the craic"!

I had a mega healthy lunch with brown rice and lots of vegetables, washed down with orange and carrot juice, and as a result have had indigestion all afternoon and feel very bloated!

bundle · 21/05/2008 17:25

batters, www,marina et al

we messed up

he'd forgotten his wallet too

we are a bit of a sad shower...
but will reschedule for after halfterm and go somewhere nice

(i did manage to borrow a tenner though and had a lovely blowout from wasabi up on kingsway...oops)

OK confession time - I have been conspicuous by my absence because I have been doing "bootcamp extremely lite"

About the only thing I do right is bedtime, handcream and being happy.

I have given notice at the gym after 10 long years because a) I'm not getting value for money because I'm too much of a sloth and b) I might be getting a job and definitely won't have time to go often enough to get value for money.

I had wine yesterday - yes on a Tuesday. I am being sabotaged by my lovely dh who has been cooking extravagant meals and opening wine to go with them.

Funnily enough, my weight has been stable since before Xmas - I don't seem to lose or gain regardless of how well or badly I bootcamp. Somewhat annoying as I would really like to lose another 10 to 15 lb.

Have been following all the threads with nosiness interest and am impressed by how well some of us are doing.

yoyo · 21/05/2008 19:53

Hello to everyone that I have not seen on this thread before - will take a while to get to know all your weaknesses!

Meet up sounds good especially now that we are all trying so hard. Only then will my mind allow me to believe that WWW is blonde.

Been busy and good but ate an enormous supper but most of it was fruit and salad so probably not that bad (if I was carb-free would be appalling).

Had my gym session and she has shifted me up a gear. DH was there doing his own thing and said he couldn't believe how hard she was pushing me. Felt very good afterwards though.

Tried on dress and it looks okay but will look much better in a couple of weeks. Oh yes it will. (Talking to myself there.)

Right, off for a walk mow and then Sralan with a glass of wine.

WideWebWitch · 21/05/2008 20:34

Hello

Well, for anyone who hasn't been on the 'ladies of a certain age where do you shop?' thread, I have discovered La Redoute via that and have just spent £200 on summer things. Took about 20 minutes, frightening how easy it is online isn't it? We'll see what I think when they get here.

Today:

bacon and eggs
salad with spinach, chicken, tomatoes, celery, small tomatoes x2, green beans and oil/vinaigrette dressing
small plate of cheese
and dh just made me steak with blue cheese on top except the steak was ropey (farm shop) and he'd just plonked a bit of blue cheese on top, hmm. So I didn't eat much of it and am now hungry so think I must have some more cheese
also had spinach leaves and salad dressing
lots of water
sunscreen
and was asleep early last night, by 10.30 but feel knackered this mornng, don't know why, but I am in the habit of waking at 6am even whne I don't HAVE to get up, which is v annoying. Hoping to break that habit on holiday next week.

Bundle, oh no re joint wallet shame! It's one way to lose weight I suppose.

Iota, hello, you at the back! Cancelling gyms not used is a v good idea I think.

Yoyo, well done on gym going and glad the dress is an incentive.

Looking forward to SrAlan in half an hour but no wine for me, oh no, I am Supreme Being who doesn't drink hardly ever. I am impressed with myself, this is week 3 and I don't mind at all. Have Ocado shop coming on Friday night though and there are 3 bottles in there, plus some Champagne here which I have deliberately not put in the fridge as I won't drink it warm, it's a waste.
