Micro wedding 16 including us. My 2nd marriage (I didnt wear a wedding dress first time and regretted it)
Im 49 so wondering if im too old for this. I’m in a very fashiony job so i think im very fashion conscious and dress well. I’m a size 12.
I’ve ordered a whole load of dresses online and this was the first to come. My mum loved it but she would say a bin bag suited me. I’m worried it’s a younger persons dress.

Before ordering dresses I think you could benefit from more time envisaging your wedding. Your choices fall across a wide spectrum from princess to sleek and sexy. How do you want to feel on your big day?

I want to feel feminine, pretty and confident. I’m a size 12& 5’8 but felt awful in those phase 8 dresses when I tried them in store . I look like a troll in that photo. Imagine if I look like that on the day. I’d cry when I see the photos.

Circles2squares · 03/04/2025 20:23

dress no 2

Ooooh. I like this one!

You're a size 12? You'll look great.

@MissPrismsMistake those are gorgeous options, I particularly like the one from The Outnet for OP. @unlikelywitch The Self Portrait option is gorgeous too. Pretty much any of the bridal Self Portrait options are going to be suitable.

Contemporary Bridal Dresses, Bridal Jewellery – self-portrait

I particularly like White Crepe Tailored Maxi Dress – self-portrait and Cream Boucle Diamante Bow Mini Dress – self-portrait.

OP, not trying to be rude but I wouldn't have guessed you worked in fashion based on the options you ordered. Do you have a colleague who could help you look and give honest opinions?

There are some lovely dresses in your link @owlexpress

I particularly liked this : https://www.self-portrait.com/products/rs25-cream-boucle-bow-detail-maxi-dress

Cream Boucle Bow Detail Maxi Dress

A lesson in artful contrasts, this dress marries the structure of tailored bouclé with a flowing satin maxi. 3D floral details are the cherries on top – add statement earrings for extra drama. Fitted style, take one size up if between sizes This style...

I went with Hope & Ivy for my second wedding and the plus side was it was budget friendly 🤣🤣

I like 2 & 4 of the ones you’ve posted.

I hope you have a wonderful day 🤩🥳

I also like 2 & 4.

@OP As my mum used to say: "If you've got it, flaunt it!"

Ooooh. I like this one!

You're a size 12? You'll look great.

Look at the phote of me wearing one - look enormous but it’s not a flattering dress or photo.
i sometimes see influencers trying on size 12 clothes and I think there’s is now way that’s size 12. Now I see why.

If you’re size 12 and 5’8 you’ve got the height and figure to pull off a great variety of dresses, you’re very lucky there! (I’m a short-arse so not quite so lucky, ha!)

Don't lose heart! Wait until the other ones you ordered arrive - try them on and see how you feel, and look, ofc.

You’ll find your perfect one. 💞

SilvieBear · 03/04/2025 20:30

You do not look enormous in the Phase Eight one @Circles2squares
The dress at the back isn’t the best fit, and yeah the photos aren’t taken at a great angle (cos they’re selfies).
But you 100% do not look enormous.

JazzyBBBG · 03/04/2025 20:31

Dress 1 is gorgeous. If you like it go for it. I think the back looks bit odd in the photo as though it's too big? But if it fits you well and you like it fuck it, go for it! Dress 2 is nice but quite ordinary so if you want to be a princess and have number 1 do it and don't regret it.

The others are ok apart from number 5 which is hideous.

I don't like the lace dress - it would have had to have been taken in: it's sort of sticking up in places. It's nothing to do with you, the lace just isn't lying properly.

Some lace dresses are beautiful, but that one is reminding me of curtains.

As @Ruthietuthie says, you might do better to look for a beautiful dress that is not ‘a wedding dress’. I realise you’ll want to make up for not wearing one previously but I think you’re asking £400 to do too much - and most of the dresses you’ve shown so far don’t look expensive or chic - just rather generic in cheap fabric. I know it is possible to find inexpensive but pretty wedding dresses - but I also think your budget could get you a perfectly lovely dress that happens to be white or ivory or cream. And you could then add bridal accoutrements like a veil.

Can you say what dress size you wear?

This should satisfy any sparkly inclinations:

Ooh he last of these is an absolute winner in my eyes!! 😍😍

MissPrismsMistake · 03/04/2025 20:37

Well, I’m a fair bit older than you, @Circles2squaresand really enjoy clothes - but I think if I unexpectedly found I had to get married I’d be in a complete panic about what to wear. (Even though I have a photo torn out of a magazine from before the turn of the millennium of an Alexander McQueen gown …)

But honestly, you still have time. Obviously try on all the dresses you’ve ordered - one of them might actually be perfect! If not, don’t despair. It’s natural to want to replicate some long lost dream, but you have a style now - what do you enjoy wearing? What always strikes you as being remarkably stylish? (Apart from the Cinderella frock I’ve mentioned, my absolute stand out best wedding outfit ever is the short tweed dress Lily Allen wore for her second marriage. Nothing else comes close, so I’m pretty immune to the allure of wedding shops.)

Do some more browsing - particularly of real clothes, where four or five hundred pounds will get you something lovely.

What do you think of these wedding dresses?
Circles2squares · 03/04/2025 20:41

@MissPrismsMistake i do like that i live that the dress is simoke stylists s classy but with veil thrown on it’s special 🩷 . There’s a suggestion of something similar in a post above so after my try on this weekend if I’m not successful I’ll order them.

Circles2squares · 03/04/2025 20:46

I’m so grateful to everyone of you that’s commented. I take it good or bad. I will report back with the chosen one when I decide. I chose the plain ones because I wanted to pair one of them with a bridal cape which I plan on wearing every day for the rest of my life.

EveryOtherNameTaken · 03/04/2025 20:53

3 is hideous and shapeless

I forgot I tried this in last weekend in phase eight.

Beautiful dress! You look great in it.
I like this one the best, or the very first one you posted a photo of.

Congratulations! I hope you will have a lovely wedding day!

SkaneTos · 03/04/2025 20:58

I read your update now, @Circles2squares .

All the dresses are good.
Choose the dress that you love.

Again, congratulations!

That's by far the best dress on here.

My favourite wedding dress is Yvette Cooper's
