If you were only allowed to have ONE perfume for life which would it be and why?

As title says really. I think mine would be Halfeti because it’s the only one I’ve ever had compliments on.

OP posts:

Got to be Mitsouko. Absolute classic and holds her own in a sea of otherwise cheap vanilla sugar scents.

Pieceofskyplease · 03/04/2025 08:19

I've had phases and no single one I've stuck with
Chloe Narcisse followed by Angel were my 90s then early 00s
I've dabbled with Lacoste pink, Chloe, eternity, flower bomb and currently hankering after allure.

MoonWoman69 · 03/04/2025 09:15

@groovergirl Oh I used to love Dewberry too! I don't know why they stopped it, it was really popular! x

Myblueclematis · 03/04/2025 09:23

I started buying Guy Laroche, Fidji, again last year and I wear that one a lot as it reminds me of the late 80s and 90s when I was going out such a lot socially. Every time I wear it I go back down Memory Lane so I'd be happy to have that as my only perfume for life.

I so miss those days ... sigh ... :-)

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 03/04/2025 09:24

It used to be Chloe Nomade but either it’s changed or I have because it just doesn’t smell the same - I used to find it intoxicating and now it smells like a department store make up section (to me anyway).
I love a lot of Penhaligons but apart from Halfeti I find they don’t seem to last very long.
At the moment it’s Portrait Of A Lady, but I would be happy with Le Labo Another 13 or Valentino Born In Roma Coral Fantasy.

Isabella Rossellini Manifesto, but left my last bottle in a hotel by accident and long discontinued. So back to Issey Miyake which I’ve worn since the original came out back in the 1990s- I alternate the original and the Nectar variants and get loads of comments.

Femme by Herve Leger from Avon

discontinued a few years ago but was an amazing perfume, I would get compliments on it all the time.

I still have a bottle of that! I also got a lot of compliments on that one when I wore it into work. One of my colleagues used to say she always knew when I was around as she could smell the perfume, she really liked it.

I don't ever wear it now but I might start have to start again.

Oh I loved that one- such a lovely bottle as well. Sadly missed 😔.

Very hard to choose only one but if I had to it would be Rive Gauche by YSL

"c'est pas pour les femmes effacees" I loved that but find it a bit heavy now.

godmum56 · 03/04/2025 09:44

anyone remember Meadowsong?

emeraldsarebest · 03/04/2025 09:52

Scherzo by Miller Harris my all time favourite.

Clinique Aromatics. I get so many compliments on it and the scent is timeless.

I love that.

It smells just like Esther Lauder Youth Dew which my mum used to wear on special occasions.

The smell reminds me of nights the babysitter came.

Chanel Cristalle, it is the only one I use!

I used to love this in the 90s but last time I tried it I didn’t like it 🙁 not sure if it’s me or the fragrance that changed

@groovergirl - Diorella - my scent of the 1970's loved it. Great to see some of my old and enduring favourites on here. Mitsouko, Kenzo Flower, Chanel No 5, L'Eau D'Issey..

I also loved Diorella!

Oh I loved Fidji, that was my scent in the ‘80s when I was in love and expecting DD1.

Divorced and retired and I haven’t worn perfume for years, but the one that takes me back to the heady days of teenage love and lust is Estée Lauder’s Youth Dew.

Sorry OP that wasn’t the question, my answer is probably J’Adore.

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 03/04/2025 10:18

Armarni She, have worn it since it first came out.

letshavetea · 03/04/2025 10:39

For me it’s Yves Saint Laurent - Rive Gauche. It’s gorgeous.

Love that one too. I have a number of faves but if I could have only 1 bottle of perfume (how hard would that be??!!) it would be Mitsouko for the reasons I explain above.

JohnWayneswife · 03/04/2025 11:21

Like others I've worn Eternity for years till they changed the formula and it's just not the same.

Now my favourite is Versace Yellow Diamond Intense

Christwosheds · 03/04/2025 11:25

Raquelos · 02/04/2025 18:50

I do like a variety of smells but Mitsouko by Gurlain is the perfume I keep going back to.

I loved Mitsouko, but it has been changed so much by the stupid rules on ingredients. Ditto Chanel No19 mentioned above.

Christwosheds · 03/04/2025 11:26

JulesJules · 03/04/2025 10:11

I also loved Diorella!

Same! Another one changed though.
I just want to be able to buy the perfume I fell in love with.

AppleDumplings · 03/04/2025 12:46

@NovemberMorn

I once heard if you can't smell your own perfume then it is the correct scent for you. I can't smell mine and always get compliments. Mine are anything Chanel.

SwedishEdith · 03/04/2025 12:57

So many YSL perfumes give me a rash and make my breathing difficult (presumably the ingredients they've had to remove) but I loved original Champagne. I've still got lots of original YSL formulations from the 80s.

I was bought Mitsouko for Christmas. I really wanted to love it but swapped it for Shalimar in the end.
