If you were only allowed to have ONE perfume for life which would it be and why?

As title says really. I think mine would be Halfeti because it’s the only one I’ve ever had compliments on.

Joy. The one by Jean Patou. Sadly it's not made any more but I have a large jar of body cream that I'm hoping will last until I no longer care what I or anyone else smells like. I reckon I can do it. Using it every other day works, and I am quite old. Ok, very old 😁

My mum has a huge bottle of joy that she’s had for decades, just leaves it there, full, just incase she ever wants to wear it!🤣

Lifeisforliving2025 · 02/04/2025 23:23

It's discontinued but I loved Valentino Donna Aqua, I have about 10mls left

I’ve worn White Linen for nearly 30 years!

Me too

Cosyvibes · 02/04/2025 23:32

Not read the whole thread. My perfume would be Gucci by Gucci still absolutely gutted they discontinued it 😭 will never forgive them until my dying day!

highlandcoo · 02/04/2025 23:39

My favourite perfume has changed over the years.

Anaïs Anaïs - my mum gave me a bottle when I went into hospital to have my daughter so that's a special memory.

I love Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune in summer - so grapefruity and fresh. I used to layer it with Body Shop pink grapefruit shower gel before that got crazily expensive. What happened there?

Jo Malone Orange Bitters in winter; it's a lovely warm spicy scent.

And recently, Maison Margiela Replica From the Garden. Very gentle and natural. I don't do well with heavy perfumes.

But my all-time favourite has to be Wrappings by Clinique. Discontinued for ages now; I have one precious bottle left. If I had to choose one it would be Wrappings.

SlightlyJaded · 02/04/2025 23:47

Amarige by Givenchy. I have been wearing it since 2001 and still get so many compliments on it. It's warm and rich and floral, but not sickly - just gorgeous.

The others that I alternate are:
Molecule No1
Deep Red - Hugo Boss
J'adore - Dior
Clarins - Eau Dynamisante (more as a cologne)
and my new favourite (thank you Liberty calendar) Ex Nihilo Fleur Narcotique which is fast becoming my 'go to'. It's bloody amazing.

Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille but I do love Halfeti too.

That would probably be my choice too, but I’d dither between that and one of the TF cherry ones.

I’d hate to only have one perfume!

Characterbuilding · 02/04/2025 23:58

Louis Vuitton les sables roses. It’s just beautiful.

Ooh which one? They discontinued some good ones and I’m not so keen on the newer ones.

Levantium

So often when I wear it, other women ask me what it is and where to get it. Men never do - that reinforces my belief that women pay more attention than men to scent.

BeaAndBen · 03/04/2025 00:03

Chanel No.5 is my back up perfume because it smells like Paris in earlier days.

After that, I just go for soap.

Following with interest because my favourites are Dolce and G Light blue (too summery for everyday, all year). And Dior Addict (navy bottle). It’s gorgeous but quite sexy evening or corporate feeling

Where do you find Dior Addict in the navy bottle these days? This was definitely "my" perfume, I always got tons of compliments when wearing it but I can no longer find it.

pippapipps · 03/04/2025 00:12

Coco Chanel

Zoetrope1 · 03/04/2025 00:50

I think it would be Bal d’Afrique for me because it’s so versatile. But I’ve recently fallen in love with Parisian Musc from Matiere Premiere - it’s the sweet spot between Philosykos and Santal 33

groovergirl · 03/04/2025 00:57

Diorella, the 1972 classic from Dior. Lemon, basil and bergamot with a splash of jasmine, yum yum yum ... It puts the spring in my step like no other scent. Other people complain it smells like insecticide, but I love it; plus, it keeps the flies off me in the Australian summer.

I'm also eking my '90s bottles of Dewberry. Please, Body Shop, bring it back!

Good to see so much love for Mitsouko. I once got so addicted to those luscious peach aldehydes I was applying it three times a day and came out in an awful rash. It is wonderful, a unique masterpiece with no smell-alikes.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 03/04/2025 01:01

Femme by Herve Leger from Avon

discontinued a few years ago but was an amazing perfume, I would get compliments on it all the time.

Funnily (and I have a lot of different perfumes) the times men have complimented me has all been on the same perfume
You read about men liking vanilla etc and the only compliments I’ve had were on DKNY woman which is possibly the coldest scent I own!

Jammiesdodger · 03/04/2025 01:25

Gucci rush 2. The one in the clear pink rectangular bottle

Teapot13 · 03/04/2025 02:04

Jil Sander No. 4. I’ve heard the formula changed so not sure I’ll like that.

Fraley · 03/04/2025 02:45

Chanel Cristalle, it is the only one I use!

I bought the dupe from Perfume Parlour a few weeks ago and it's identical! Its called Saintly Lady, in case the link to it doesn't work.

Molecules 01- absolutely amazing scent!

PattyDukeAstin · 03/04/2025 07:28

@groovergirl - Diorella - my scent of the 1970's loved it. Great to see some of my old and enduring favourites on here. Mitsouko, Kenzo Flower, Chanel No 5, L'Eau D'Issey..
