Late 30s/early 40s - what do you get done?!

Thejugglestruggle · 22/02/2025 14:57

I recently had my first ever botox appointment. I went quite conservatively for one area, and I'm thrilled with the results. I couldn't believe the number of people in the waiting room, and it's opened my eyes to what people in my age group regularly get done in terms of beauty.

Tell me what you get done and was is worth the money?! I'll go first!

  1. Shellac every 2 to 3 weeks on my hands, year round
  2. Toes done monthly May-September
  3. LVLs every 2-3 months
  4. Hair cut every 10 weeks or so, hair dyed around 4 times a year.
  5. Recently started botox

I have regular manicures and pedicures, hair cut every 3 months and highlights every 6 months.

Not had any Botox, filler or anything like that and no plans to (I’m 44), majority of my friends are the same.

redstripestar · 22/02/2025 15:24

Just the usual excess hair control and a skin care routine.

I like face yoga and would do retinol or tret and possibly laser resurfacing in future.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 22/02/2025 15:28

65- nothing except hair colour and cut every 5 weeks, which done since late 20s.

I've never had any of the other stuff- not even a manicure. I love clothes but no interest in this.

TulipTuesday · 22/02/2025 15:35

I’m 44.

I colour my hair myself at home whenever it needs it. It gets a dry cut perhaps every 8-10 weeks.

This year I figured my skin might need a bit more than my usual SPF moisturiser so I’ve started using Olay collagen moisturiser stuff in the morning and their retinol one at night.

I have had gel nails in the past at Christmas or special occasions but don’t bother normally.

I wouldn’t dream of having Botox or invasive treatments.

MissAtomicBomb1 · 22/02/2025 15:42

Ok...
Started tret about 2 years ago. Use it most nights
Hair extensions (long blonde highlights) - roots & maintenance appointment every 8-10 weeks.
BIAB manicure - every 3 weeks
Eyebrows micro bladed - every 18 months
LVL lash lift - use a DiY kit from Amazon every 6 weeks
Lash serum nightly

I haven't messed about with my face (yet!)
I'd love forehead botox but I have hooded eyes so I think it would make them worse!
I'm interested in starting skin boosters such as profhilo, nice needling etc.
I'm not sure the other injectables are for me. I don't know any friends that use them either.

MissAtomicBomb1 · 22/02/2025 15:42

Forgot to add, I'm mid forties

That sounds time consuming and very expensive. I’m older than you and only have haircut every 3/4 months and eyebrow shape once every two months. Occasionally have a pedicure in the summer. People always think I’m younger than I am.

StarlightLady · 22/02/2025 15:46

Mid 40s, Hollywood Wax every 4weeks, nothing else.

Deljay · 22/02/2025 15:46

I use a prescription tret about 3x a week.
I get highlights a few times a year.
I home wax my legs about 3x a year (just not v hairy).

That's it. I like the tret for controlling spots and making my skin feel nice. I like the highlights and hanging out with my hairdresser, but I have blonde highlights on blonde-grey hair so it's not a massive change. I don't do anything else because I found, when I did, it made me feel unhappy and self-conscious.

Oooh which lvl DIY kit do you use?! I didn't realise you could do that
I've heard profhilo is fantastic - perhaps something for me in the future!

Is tret the prescription cream?

AntiHop · 22/02/2025 15:48

Nothing (except hair cuts).

This is the kit - I did find it only works well for the first 2 times though, then you need to repurchase. I think once the bottles are opened it loses its strength or something!

The tret is from the pharmasonline website.
I used to have it from dermalogica but it's cheaper direct. You need to build up slowly through the strengths though as it can make your skin very sore. I can't tolerate anything above 0.05 even after using it for a few years.

Lentilweaver · 22/02/2025 16:03

Haircuts every 3 months. Nothing else. I am 53.
Damn, just saw you asked for a specific age group. Sorry.

holly1483 · 22/02/2025 16:09

I'm 40. Hair cut and colour every 6-8 weeks (it's short). Pedicures in summer - mainly because they can get my heels softer than I can! Just normal nail polish, not shellac. Had my eyebrows microbladed twice so far, I over plucked in the late 90s / early 00s. Have had laser hair removal on legs and forearms. Wouldn't dream of getting Botox/fillers.

okydokethen · 22/02/2025 16:09

Swap shellac for BIAB it doesn't chip, same process just a better product.

I get BIAB every 3 weeks - colour lasts but grows too long to leave longer.
I do my own pedicures.
Brazilian blow dry - twice a year
Basic cut every 8 weeks, I don't colour my hair any more.
I've had thread veins lasered from my cheeks and nose and I've had laser eye surgery which was life changing.
Micro blading once every 18 months.
I'd love to get electrolysis on my brows and upper lip as I have to tweezer most days.
I love Botox on crows feet but it's too expensive for me at the moment.

okydokethen · 22/02/2025 16:12

Oh and I have used a Philips lumea laser for years, legs and bikini are virtually hair free and no stubble just soft re growth. Didn't work on underarms for me mind.

Oh sounds great, i think I've seen these advertised. So nice to nor worry about hair in summer!

Do you have wavy hair naturally? Would you recommend bra, ilian blow dry? I've been thinking about getting this too

Careful, you will get the “you must be hairy police” come after you 😀. Don’t worry, they have come after me before. x

LittleMachine · 22/02/2025 16:32

I'm about to turn 39. I get biab fingernails every 3 weeks and my eyebrows waxed and tinted at the same time. I get my hair coloured every 6 weeks and trimmed every 12 weeks. I get Botox on my forehead, around my eyes and under my eyebrows every 3 months. I get biab on my toes about 4 times a year for holidays. I've had laser and do my own top ups when needed.
Botox really changed how my skin looks, I always swore I wouldn't get any injectables but I love it. I wouldn't rule anything out now.

HundredPercentUnsure · 22/02/2025 16:37

AntiHop · 22/02/2025 15:48

Nothing (except hair cuts).

Twice a year hair cut.
Hyularonic acid & niacinide night serum (or however you spell them).

That is all.

I used to have a manicure at Christmas and again before summer holiday, way back when I didn't have kids, when I had both time and patience.

What is LVL?

HawkersNorth · 22/02/2025 16:47

I'm late 30s/early 40s and I get:

-haircut and color gloss every 6 weeks
-highlights twice a year
-lash extensions every 3 weeks
-facial once a month

I cut back on getting my nails done professionally, I now only do them for special occasions. Don't need botox and its not something that interests me. I also exercise regularly
