Late 30s/early 40s - what do you get done?!

I recently had my first ever botox appointment. I went quite conservatively for one area, and I'm thrilled with the results. I couldn't believe the number of people in the waiting room, and it's opened my eyes to what people in my age group regularly get done in terms of beauty.

Tell me what you get done and was is worth the money?! I'll go first!

  1. Shellac every 2 to 3 weeks on my hands, year round
  2. Toes done monthly May-September
  3. LVLs every 2-3 months
  4. Hair cut every 10 weeks or so, hair dyed around 4 times a year.
  5. Recently started botox

Wow, this thread.

I'm 40. I get my hair cut roughly every two months, and I moisturise (E45, cheap and easy). I do eat properly and I work a physical job, but people generally think I'm younger than I am.

Biab manicure every 3 weeks. Pedicure every 4-5 weeks with gel toes. Haircut every 4-5 months. Eyebrows whenever I go on holiday. 38. No botox etc as yet. But wouldn’t rule it out!

I’m 41. I shave my legs and underarms.

I wear SPF every day and wear make up regularly.

I don’t get any professional treatments or processes.

I get my haircut once every few years as and when I fancy it. I don’t dye it, and I don’t have any grey hairs.

Floofyboy2010 · 22/02/2025 23:41

I'm late 30s.

Shellac once a fortnight (done myself, I've been doing it for years and it looks just as good as a salon)
Pedicures done at home in the summer
Hollywood wax every 4 weeks
Highlights and cut every 6-8 weeks
About to get hair extensions as I'm fed up of my thin, fine, ratty hair

Also have a lumea but haven't used it for a while!

Erm... Well, sometimes I get a haircut?

I have had a facial twice (lovely) and had my nails done once when I was a bridesmaid (wouldn't bother again).

If I had the funds and the time I'd probably get regular facials. I have a lot of deep lines on my forehead despite not yet being 40 so would probably be an "excellent candidate" for Botox, but not particularly interested in that. Not to say that I appreciate the wrinkles because I definitely don't.

I would like to look a bit more polished (ok, remotely polished) but honestly I just CBA with any level of maintenance so think I'm doomed to remain scruffy forever.

38, I get my hair cut every few months/whenever it gets long enough to annoy me. I usually dye it myself but sometimes I'll get my hairdresser friend to do it when I'm in for a cut.

Only ever had my nails done twice. Eyebrows threaded maybe 3 times. Got my eyelashes dyed once, waste of time and money, couldn't see any difference. No intention of ever getting botox or fillers.

I do plan to get pedicures when I'm old, I work in health care and see a lot of elderly people with overly long toenails. I've decided that won't be me!

Stopped dyeing my hair during the pandemic. Last haircut was Spring 2023, and that November, I had a crew cut shortly after starting chemo. At that point, had to stop Tret, something I've been using religiously for almost a decade. Used to have monthly pedicures tbut my nails are still recovering from chemo, so haven't had one for six months or so. Hair is now regrowing and don't anticipate having it cut until late this year, if not early next. Am not sure yet, it's dependent on how it grows out. On a positive note, radiotherapy means I no longer have to shave my armpits. Pre-cancer, used to lift v. heavy weights 3-4 times a week and walk around 120,000 steps a week. Hope to return to the gym next month.

Have never had botox, fillers or any other kind of tweakments. Only major thing I got done was some dental work about a decade ago. I haven't bleached my teeth and have no intention of doing so. Am late 40s. Double cleanse, use facial oils and serums, regular sheet masks. Exfoliate twice a week. Gua sha daily. Body exfoliator and cream daily. Foot cream too. Often slather feet in vaseline and wear socks in bed - feet still dry from chemo.

Have always been relatively fortunate that I have good genes and great bone structure. Always wore sunscreen, so few wrinkles or lines. Face hasn't sagged, no jowls as yet. However, am sure chemo will catch up with me sooner or later - I do feel I've aged immeasurably since I got sick but I know that's more to do with having shit hair and still waiting on my eyebrows to properly reappear.

Swap shellac for BIAB it doesn't chip, same process just a better product.

I get BIAB every 3 weeks - colour lasts but grows too long to leave longer.
I do my own pedicures.
Brazilian blow dry - twice a year
Basic cut every 8 weeks, I don't colour my hair any more.
I've had thread veins lasered from my cheeks and nose and I've had laser eye surgery which was life changing.
Micro blading once every 18 months.
I'd love to get electrolysis on my brows and upper lip as I have to tweezer most days.
I love Botox on crows feet but it's too expensive for me at the moment.

Hello, did you had the laser.done in a dermatology clinic? How much it is please? Thank you.

LeaveALittleNote · 24/02/2025 15:00

I cut my own hair and do my own balayage.
I paint my own nails (but usually have them painted as I do think they look nice).
Pluck my own eyebrows.
Do IPL hair removal at home.
I whitened my teeth at home.
I will fake tan very occasionally, only if I’m going to go to a spa/on holiday/to a wedding.
I’ve never had Botox but I am open to the idea and I’ll probably try it one day. I don’t want fillers because of migration, and I also think they are risky in terms of looking strange.
I wouldn’t say I’m low maintenance necessarily, but I learnt to do my own treatments when I was very poor.

Runingoncaffeine · 25/02/2025 11:55

I don’t really like the subtle shaming on this thread aimed towards people who choose to get treatments etc.
