Late 30s/early 40s - what do you get done?!

Thejugglestruggle · 22/02/2025 14:57

I recently had my first ever botox appointment. I went quite conservatively for one area, and I'm thrilled with the results. I couldn't believe the number of people in the waiting room, and it's opened my eyes to what people in my age group regularly get done in terms of beauty.

Tell me what you get done and was is worth the money?! I'll go first!

  1. Shellac every 2 to 3 weeks on my hands, year round
  2. Toes done monthly May-September
  3. LVLs every 2-3 months
  4. Hair cut every 10 weeks or so, hair dyed around 4 times a year.
  5. Recently started botox

42- hair colour every 5 weeks, keratin treatment for hair every 3 months. Botox every 3/4 months. Polynucleotides every 8 weeks in face and neck. Micro needling every 2/3 months.

PrioritisePleasure24 · 22/02/2025 19:06

erm fringe trim once a month
Hair cut and blow every 3 months.

I don’t have nails… work in healthcare so file my own. As no fake nails etc allowed.
i buy and use my own skin care and do it myself, no injectables etc Own eyebrows and make up etc. Own body hair management.

Im 45. Pretty low maintenance apparently. 😂
Id rather spend the money doing, days out, holidays, fun stuff etc. I don’t earn enough to do some of what is mentioned here, on a regular basis

BangingOn · 22/02/2025 19:32

At a salon:

  • Profhilo annually
  • Shellac pedicure every 6-8 weeks
  • lash lift and tint every 3 months
  • Hair cut (and sometimes a few foils) every 6 weeks
  • Root retouch for my persistent greys every 3 weeks

At home:

  • Tretinoin every night layered with lots of hydrating Korean products
YearsofYears · 22/02/2025 19:42

Later 30's. Hair cut and brows waxed and tinted roughly every 3 months.
I style it regularly at home do my own basic manicure.
Skin and me serum nightly for rosacea. Recently had a lovely facial and would like to do those every 2 months. Interested in an Led mask too, but there's so many, hard to know which to get.
Not planning anything more invasive for now, saving money for other financial priorities. Friends in the same age bracket seem a total mix in terms of beauty routine. Some do nothing and some do everything. Similar to other life choices I suppose.

How much is Botox?

Really depends on how much you're having done and also where in the UK.
I'm south wales and it's half the price for the same practitioner as to what she charges across the bridge in Bristol!
£99 one area
£160 2 areas
Don't know about more.

I'm 40. I had my first botox in my 11s and forehead in November and am booked in again in March.

I get my hair trimmed every 6-8 weeks, and get a half head of highlights twice a year.

I do my own nails at home with a gel kit.

I've just paid a deposit to get my teeth professionally whitened and I think it's going to really brighten my face!

Teeth whitening really does make a difference. I went via dentist ie they made the moulds then I bleach at home over 4 or 5 nights. Once you've got the moulds (£200 about 6 years ago) it's just cost of a syringe of bleach once a year £15 to £20

Hope your DH makes as much effort!

Again. Why? I do not do it for him, he literally couldn’t give a shit. And if I had the misfortune to be married to any man who insisted I did x y or z I would l refuse, if it was something I didn’t want to do.
Having a vagina doesn’t take away your ability for rational thought. I am perfectly capable of choosing what I want to do. And I earn enough money, by myself, to do the things I want to do, for myself. When you are financially independent, it’s not complicated. You choose.

NormasArse · 22/02/2025 20:03

I tint my own lashes and brows, and I use a coloured glaze on my hair, which blends the whites in with my natural colour (looks like peachy highlights).

I take good care of my skin, using a serum and moisturiser.

I paint my own nails if I’m going somewhere special, but I usually just cut them short and I use a hand and nail cream.

I have my hair cut every 7 weeks.

Shave my legs, pits and bikini line.

Drink loads of water; use sunscreen; don’t smoke; rarely drink alcohol anymore; swim 3x per week; walk loads.

I think I look ok for 59. No plans for Botox etc.

Sightoabloodyscream · 22/02/2025 20:14

Haven't shaved my legs since October. They're much happier that way. I'm also lucky that my body hair is white. I actually quite like them when I catch a glimpse of them in 3/4 pants in the gym. They'll have to go for fake tan season though.

I would like whiter teeth, but I have bad gums, so probably won't be wise.

RachCBas84 · 22/02/2025 20:27

I've just turned 40. I've always been pretty into my beauty routines and have always spent my money on makeup, hair and nice clothes. This has continued as I have gotten older.

I get Botox, every 3 months, I have a small amount of filler in my cheeks and around my mouth as well as a little in my chin. I get my hair highlighted every 8 weeks. I have had electrolysis for unwanted hairs. I am also about to have nano brows as I plucked all mine out as a teen and they never came back! I have never bothered with my nails, only when I got married did I have them done.

Glad you are pleased with the results of your Botox. I know quite a few women who regularly have Botox and are very pleased with the result, I also have friends who wouldn't want it, who look gorgeous.

notnorman · 22/02/2025 21:04

I use good moisturiser! I'm nearly 50 and look a lot younger. Maybe if i didn't I would start considering all this stuff.

Bellaboot · 22/02/2025 21:13

47 here.
Botox every 4-6 months and have done since 30 less a few years off for child bearing and breastfeeding.
I dye and tidy my own eyebrows.
I've had filler maybe 4 times in 10 years, some in cheek and some in nasolabial fold. Latter works brilliantly for me.
Hydro facial once a month.
Laser resurfacing a couple of times a year.
Hair highlighted and cut about every 3 months.
Pedi/Mani normal polish, when I can!

Yes I'm doing it via a dentist, but I have to wear the moulds for a whole month! It's £370. Hopefully I'm pleased with the result!

minipie · 22/02/2025 22:03

I have had legs and pits lasered so no hair removal for me (I still have quite a lot of blonde leg hairs left over but they don’t bother me)

I have hair cut and highlights every 3 months

Pedicure about 4x a year, leave it to grow out in between

Ermmmmm that’s all I can think of tbh. I don’t even bother with any skincare a lot of the time.

I need to be more regular with skincare, sleep more and drink more water! So until I do those things it seems silly to spend £££ on injectables and other tweakments.

Also I’m not sure they are all that effective for the price…. I think I’d rather save up the money and put it towards surgery which definitely does work.

GFlower · 22/02/2025 22:09

I’m definitely tempted to try a little Botox, so much positive feedback but still nervous??

I personally have my nails done once a month (Acrylic and gel, as oddly I find it has been what has kept my nails strong as it’s stopped breakages)

I then love getting my eyebrows threaded to reshape them every few months, and just pluck them to retain the shape in between.

Dye my eyebrows and eyelashes every few weeks (this is my main hack for always feeling like I wake up feeling like I look nice!)

And then for my skin, I use tret (a formula from Monderma, worth it as it’s personalised) for my skin, which is also why I feel like I don’t need Botox, as it’s basically reversed most of my wrinkles… but wondering if Botox would go the rest of the way?!

Vivfor60 · 22/02/2025 22:21

@NormasArse which glaze do you use on your hair, please? I am about 30% grey. Don't want to box dye it, but would like to lose the faded look a little.

Pigeonqueen · 22/02/2025 22:23

I’m 44, I spent most of my life working as a consultant for Clinique so you’d probably think I was really into it all but actually I’m not at all. I do wear make up every day, foundation, powder, blusher, eyeliner etc etc but apart from that and some basic skincare that’s all I do. I paint my own nails as I don’t like the hassle of going to a salon. I don’t cut my hair apart from maybe once a year for a tidy up. No injections or whatever of any sort mostly because I just don’t have the energy for it, I’m very introverted and don’t really like chatting to people and having stuff done. I don’t bother shaving anything anymore. Dh doesn’t care and neither do I…! But fair enough if it makes others happy, we’re all different.

Loveduppenguin · 22/02/2025 22:34

I’m 40 this year…and honestly…I do absolutely nothing. I’m lucky though, only a few tiny greys every so often. I only get nails done for weddings etc. my eyebrows are naturally an alright shape. Botox? Couldn’t be bothered but I still pass for mid 30’s. So ask me in 10 years. 🤣

I've become less maintainance as I've got older. In my 20s I always wore a full face of makeup all the time, always had my nails painted, hair coloured all the time, false eyelashes etc!

Nowadays I get my hair coloured once a year, cut 2-3 times a year. I dont paint my nails regularly , but I will get shellac done for a special occasion or holiday. Hardly wear makeup unless it's a night out, but I do like to make an effort when going out for a night or special occasion.

I would love to get my eyebrows done, but I'm too scared about it going wrong and messing up my face so I've learned to live with them! Likewise for botox or anything else like fillers, I notice my lines now and see signs of ageing, but I'm just too scared of messing my face and something going botched. I never say never, but I'm happy in my own skin for the time being.

MarioLink · 22/02/2025 22:50

haircut every 8 weeks

3678194b · 22/02/2025 22:53

I'm 40's.

Hair high lighted and cut regularly.
Chiropodist regularly (just as I find it better than a pedicure)
Had IPL in a salon regularly but now have my own Phillips.
Had dental whitening and bonding, will need re doing from time to time.

That is about it. I haven't had any botox/fillers and don't think I will. I don't have any crows feet or frown lines really, so easy to say. I often get asked for ID buying alcohol so I'll see how it goes!

Motherrr · 22/02/2025 22:55

Late 30s here. I've had fillers as my face has started losing a lot of volume and I look gaunt!

Also had laser for facial capillaries. Helped with redness.

Hair highlights and a cut every 3/4 months.

Was having Eyelash and eyebrow tint monthly but it wore off so quickly it wasn't worth the money.. think I will try microblading.

Nails painted in the summer if and when I can be bothered.

Skincare from ZO. All of the above seems to take a lot more time and money than when I was 20 ish and maintenance was chuck on some moisturiser once a day and get hair dyed!!

RosesAndHellebores · 22/02/2025 22:57

Very little compared to others on this thread.

Cut, colour and blow dry every six weeks.
I use a good cleanser, day cream and night cream daily.
Light make-up every day: foundation, blusher, translucent powder, lipstick and Mascara.
Nails are neat and nails are never polished but use handcream morning and night. I paint my own toenails in the summer.

I was never very hairy but after ds was born my leg and arm hair vanished!

I'm 64 and spend about £140pcm on the above. I thought I was quite vain but this thread has blown my mind!

Doitrightnow · 22/02/2025 23:25

I have my hair cut once a year or so. I have it dyed at the same time but am thinking about stopping. That's it.

I'd never have botox or plastic surgery unless medically required.

Can't be bothered to do nails. I don't really like them long. Certainly can't be bothered to do feet, they're always hidden in shoes! And feet are gross, I don't want my attention drawn to them.

I prefer the natural look and spending on other things.
