Late 30s/early 40s - what do you get done?!

Thejugglestruggle · 22/02/2025 14:57

I recently had my first ever botox appointment. I went quite conservatively for one area, and I'm thrilled with the results. I couldn't believe the number of people in the waiting room, and it's opened my eyes to what people in my age group regularly get done in terms of beauty.

Tell me what you get done and was is worth the money?! I'll go first!

  1. Shellac every 2 to 3 weeks on my hands, year round
  2. Toes done monthly May-September
  3. LVLs every 2-3 months
  4. Hair cut every 10 weeks or so, hair dyed around 4 times a year.
  5. Recently started botox

Twice a year hair cut.
Hyularonic acid & niacinide night serum (or however you spell them).

That is all.

I used to have a manicure at Christmas and again before summer holiday, way back when I didn't have kids, when I had both time and patience.

What is LVL?

It's an eyelash lift which curls the lashes (and dyes them). Fab treatment!

I'm about to turn 39. I get biab fingernails every 3 weeks and my eyebrows waxed and tinted at the same time. I get my hair coloured every 6 weeks and trimmed every 12 weeks. I get Botox on my forehead, around my eyes and under my eyebrows every 3 months. I get biab on my toes about 4 times a year for holidays. I've had laser and do my own top ups when needed.
Botox really changed how my skin looks, I always swore I wouldn't get any injectables but I love it. I wouldn't rule anything out now.

I felt the same about botox!!!

Just go to the hairdressers, that's it. I use a moisturiser each morning, try to keep my nails in good condition, drink plenty water, try to eat well, and use sunscreen. . I wear light makeup. I feel like I'm not doing enough now 😂

iamnotalemon · 22/02/2025 17:17

I get my lashes tinted every 6 weeks and my hair highlighted every 3-4 months.

Practicepracticepracticeagain · 22/02/2025 17:25

Oh god, loads!
Shellac every 2 weeks
Shellac pedicure every 6 weeks
Waxing (legs and Brazilian) every 3 weeks
LVL every 10 weeks
Dermaplaning every 8 weeks
Cut and highlights every 8 weeks
Eyebrow tint and wax every 4 weeks
Facial & massage every 6ish weeks
Botox & Profhilo every 4 months
Dry body brushing daily
Weight train 5 x per week (makes a big difference)
Vit c every am, retinol every pm plus seperate neck serum and relevant moisturisers
Also electrocute my face every day with my FOREO Bear (except for 2 weeks after Botox) and am considering investing in the Lyma…..

Just read all of that and wondered why I still look like a bag of shit 🤣🤣

All of it works for me though and I feel and look better for it. DH doesn’t care either way but he does always notice when I’ve had Botox and profhilo. My face moves and looks normal, I just look more awake and less tense!

SparrowFeet · 22/02/2025 17:28

Oh gosh quite a lot and I need to cut back:
41
I've used tret for about 5 years.
On and off Profhilo or fillers since about 35
Botox on and off since 35 (once or twice a year)
BIAB on nails every three weeks
Pedicure every 6
LVL every 6
Philips Lumea every month or so
Hair gloss/ colour mask every week. Cut is probably 3 - 4 times a year. If I start needing to have it professionally dyed I'm going to have to give something up 🫤

SparrowFeet · 22/02/2025 17:29

@Practicepracticepracticeagain thank you for making me feel better 🤣

Good for you!
With the profhilo....what do you find the main difference? Looking brighter in complexion?

Lol at electrocute your face...googling now!

48 years old
Balyage and hair cut twice a year (Think I need to cut it more often)
Botox twice a year
Eyebrow wax once a month
Bleach teeth once a year

Ypsilanti · 22/02/2025 17:34

Wow. This is eye-opening. How do some of you find time to get all this done?!! And how much does it cost?

I’m genuinely interested as I think I am probably living under a rock. I’m 44 and aside from getting my hair cut every 6 months (it grows painfully slowly) and using a Skin & Me prescription cream for rosacea, that’s literally it. I’ve never even had a manicure!!

Sightoabloodyscream · 22/02/2025 17:39

Hair every 2-3 months.
Dye own brows and lashes.
Used to get nails done occasionally but I hated how wrecked they go. They're also v short due to guitar playing, and as I've got very little nail on my finger (narrow and right on the top), they actually look worse with nail varnish.

That's it. I'm OK with looking like me at my age (44).

mondaytosunday · 22/02/2025 17:48

I started getting regular facials in my 40s. I find them very relaxing but I can't tell you whether they make a huge difference to my skin. But I have a very basic skincare routine otherwise.
Pedicure a couple times a year (during and summer), I colour my own hair and cut it every two/three months. Don't do nails and no other treatment.

Practicepracticepracticeagain · 22/02/2025 17:49

@Thejugglestruggle Profhilo gives me a brightening, smoothing effect. I HATE this word, but it “plumps” up my skin without looking like I’ve had filler?

SparrowFeet · 22/02/2025 17:52

@HundredPercentUnsure

Profhilo is a kind of injectable moisturiser (it's basically hyaluronic acid) - it plumps your skin better than any serum and also promotes collagen production. I think it's a good add on to Botox because eventually with Botox the lower part of your face doesn't match the smoothness of your forehead. Profhilo is just good to make your skin look nice.

Tret - tretinoin - it's a retin A that is only available on prescription in the UK and alongside vitamin C is the only skincare ingredient that is proven to promote collagen production (anti-wrinkle). I get mine through Klira.

I've been into skincare ever since having bad acne in my 20s so I think I examine my face more than most.

I replied without noticing the age limit. There's loads of things I've never even heard of let alone used.

When I was 30s/40s some of these things wouldn't have existed, although Botox was well established by my 40th birthday. It never occurred then or now to use it.

I've never had a manicure either. I had a facial once because it was a present- hated it.

I'm obviously not who this thread is aimed at bit I'm also amazed at how much people must spend on this stuff.

I'm 46, trim my own (long, salt and pepper) hair, no beauty treatments, no hair dye, paint my own nails from time to time, shave legs, armpits and very occasionally bikini line, pluck my own eyebrows, use face moisturiser and eye cream morning and night, hardly ever wear makeup. I generally think I look quite nice (in a normal, broadly speaking attractive middle aged woman way, not any kind of supermodel lol)

At the risk of offending the people the thread was aimed at, I find it quite sad that people spend all this time and money to supposedly improve their looks and still don't like how they look. I'm willing to bet you all look perfectly attractive even without all the treatments.

Nails and eyebrows in my lunch hour. Same for Botox and Profhilo. Waxing I’ve had the same lady for decades and I see her at 7.30am before work. The rest is either evening or weekend appointments. I train at home so no need to go to a gym. Cost? I’ve just worked it out and I’m not posting it on here! I earn my own money though so it’s really up to me. DH is happy I’m happy, but would equally be happy if I looked like a yeti.

OkPedro · 22/02/2025 18:02

Yes eye opening thread.. I would love to see before and after for those who have lots of treatments.
I'm 42
Root touch up every 6/8 weeks
Haircut 2/3 times a year.
Exfoliate daily
Daily moisturise
Daily gradual tan
Rarely have nails done

I wonder if the people I know who get Botox have the same practicioner sp? I've yet to see anyone who doesn't look permanently shocked 🫣

PoppyBaxter · 22/02/2025 18:05

I'm 40. I had my first botox in my 11s and forehead in November and am booked in again in March.

I get my hair trimmed every 6-8 weeks, and get a half head of highlights twice a year.

I do my own nails at home with a gel kit.

I've just paid a deposit to get my teeth professionally whitened and I think it's going to really brighten my face!

Well, even my mother ( who notices if I have gained more than a lb and is definitely not shy in critiquing my appearance) has never noticed. I definitely don’t looked shocked! The point of good Botox is that you can’t tell. I still have a moveable forehead 😊

MiniPumpkin · 22/02/2025 18:12

Age 36, hair cut n colour approx every 10 weeks.
I recently went without getting nails done for about 3 months and I felt rubbish. Back to shellac nails now.
Feel I should be doing something else as I see age taking its toll but don’t suppose I can stop it
considering heatless curls to make me feel a bit more glam

I'm 41. I get my hair cut once a year. That may change if I start getting greys.

Apart from that I have a shower every day 😂
