Lemon111 that is absolutely gorgeous.

I’ve just done something very naff and bought myself a commitment ring- from me, to me. It marks the end of a very hard period in my life and is a marker every day that I am committed to looking after myself in recovery. I’m single and have struggled with that sometimes so it feels massive for me.
I’ll find a pic

I think that's a lovely idea. I hope you're doing ok now.

Floursacktabletop · 23/02/2025 17:13

It’s a bit like this but has 3 stones in which are important to me

It’s still very fashionable and I love it!

I love everyone’s btw don’t take offence other mumsnetters it’s just I wanted to support Eminy here as she thinks hers is somehow no longer worthy

You can definitely tell the decade most people got engaged by their choice of ring but I think that's lovely. It's a bit of history and part of the charm.

twiddlingthumbs69 · 23/02/2025 17:15

Mine. Still love it after all these years

I LOVE that. It has that very classy bespoke cocktail ring look to it. There was an Italian brand of stacking rings very similar to that I was obsessed with a few years ago, can't remember the name of the brand now, and I really wanted to treat myself but didn't have a good enough reason to. You have the perfect reason.

Floursacktabletop · 23/02/2025 17:28

Thanks for being so nice! I haven't told anyone in my actual life as it seems so pretentious and I feel embarrassed but it's really bringing me a lot of joy

I don't think that's naff at all.

And I really like the ring you posted further down!

That's not naff at all! Wish I'd have thought of it during the 14 years I spent on my own! The ring is lovely and has meaning to you which is all that matters. Hope you're doing better now

Yes! Just had a quick look to jog my memory and it was the Nudo range from Pomellato. Not really thought about them for a few years but having just seen them again I can confirm I still muchly heart them. 😍 So elegant.

Don't worry about the opal comments OP! I have a beautiful Victorian opal ring that I wear most days and it's absolutely fine. I don't sleep in any jewellery or wear it in the shower and I always take all my rings off before cleaning as I'm prone to contact dermatitis so never want products or cleaning chemicals to get trapped under jewellery.

I think you may be me! I too get dermatitis if I wear rings all the time. I take all my jewellery off for bed and in the shower etc. I also have another opal ring that seems to be holding up well

There are a lot of stunning rings here. I'm a ringaholic but covid got me out of the habit of wearing most of them because of the alcohol gels. I wear just my wedding band and the ring Dad gave Mum for their diamond anniversary, which has six small diamonds in and allows me to remember them both.

I'm going to put my opal diamond on in a minute though! Pic from a few years back... I bought it for myself!

Aw, thank you for that, OP: it's very much like my 'unengagement ring' (only mine was gold) which I lost many years ago. It's lovely to see one like it again.

DH & I lived together & were sure we would never marry, hence the 'unengagement ring'. We changed our minds when the time was right & I had an engagement ring which is an antique in diamonds, gold & platinum. Btw, I wore my opal ring all the time & nothing happened to the opal.

And congratulations!

YoNoHeSido77 · 23/02/2025 18:12

This is my second engagement ring (and wedding ring). I’ve lost 8.5st and my original ones fell off me.
The wedding ring cost £60 for 2. We made them ourselves in a workshop. My engagement ring cost £3.25 from Temu.

my original ones 13y ago only cost £99 for the engagement ring and £125 for wedding ring.

Your ring is stunning @namechange222222222
The best on the thread.
I can't believe it's an M colour.
I've seen H coloured diamonds that were much yellower.

Such a variety of rings on this thread. Some I don't like at all but we all have different tastes which makes life interesting.

Have you attached your ring? I’d be interested to see it.

Also some people just don't like big or flashy jewellery. It doesn't sit comfortably on their hand or fit in with their active lifestyle or they feel weird and pretentious wearing it. Delicate or understated is no less lovely. The same with people choosing silver, or semi precious stones, or buying something interesting and vintage, or using a family hand me down with sentimental value. Or picking something completely original and a bit of an acquired taste that doesn't look like an engagement ring at all. You just do you and enjoy your lovely ring. Ignore the bitchy judgers and the one-upmanship merchants.

Agreed. My first engagement ring was very expensive and is chunky and flashy. I still love it, don’t get me wrong! But when late DH bought it, we didn’t have a mortgage or a child and we were both working two jobs in London so had a lot of disposable income. If DP had spent our savings on a fancy engagement ring when were have a mortgage and a six year old, I would have been extremely cross! I love my understated second ring, I wouldn’t want anything different for this period of my life.

WhatTheFuckIsThisNow · 23/02/2025 18:25

Mine is a turquoise and garnet Victorian promise ring dated 1888. The turquoise stones are in tiny 'secret' heart settings that you only really know are there if you look for them - a sort of secret token of love, the Victorians loved all that stuff.

It's very delicate though so I don't wear it all the time. For everyday wear I have a Welsh rose gold tree of life band which I wear as an eternity ring, next to my rose gold wedding ring.
