My engagement ring arrived this morning and I'm so in love with it, can I see yours?

Your ring is stunning @namechange222222222
The best on the thread.
I can't believe it's an M colour.
I've seen H coloured diamonds that were much yellower.

Such a variety of rings on this thread. Some I don't like at all but we all have different tastes which makes life interesting.

I don't have one, nor do I have a wedding ring - as dh refused to wear a ring I did too. He wasn't too happy about it but I'm afraid I just shrugged "I will if you will maty-pie". So no rings. It's a slight shame as we could have sold them and paid for house repairs if we had had them.

@Jux

how romantic

Diamond engagement ring and a trinity ring which was originally an anniversary gift but then swapped with wedding band as preferred the combination. Would like to add a third at some point always thought would look cluttered but some nice ideas on here

Engagement and custom-made wedding ring to fit. 24 years old, so not very fashionable, but I love them

This is mine, also from today! Topaz and gold. I am very happy 😃

I love this ring and can see why you are so happy with it 😍 It is almost identical to the second one that my husband bought for me (the first one was stolen) - a beautiful aquamarine and diamonds not topaz but the colours look so similar. When my grandson got engaged it was passed on to his fiancé. By that time it was too small for me and it was so heartwarming to see it worn and loved again.

@ThisFluentBiscuit

what was it??

I am not typing it out.
It was apparently a character in a sitcom... First name very British, second one a WW2 dictator who murdered millions.
It's the 80th anniversary of one of the murder location survivors being freed this year.
Many died being deprived of the joy of being engaged/married/having families or indeed of showing off the pride of their engagement rings.
It's also the contrast of the post,asking for happy memories whilst using one of the most despised characters in human history as part of username and no response to this.

NippyNinjaCrab · 23/02/2025 11:57

Gorgeous ring OP and beautiful rings on the thread, here's mine, God my hands look old lol x

OPs original username was very innocent. It really is the name of a sitcom character beloved in the UK. Honestly nothing to get worked up about.

JoyousEagle · 23/02/2025 12:28

Not "apparently". It is Ade Edmondson's character in Bottom.
Not a username I'd use, but she's clearly asked MN to change it (I don't think individuals can change the username of a post after it's made?).

The solitaire is my engagement ring, but I'm actually wearing the link ring at the moment. Just fancied a change.

@LondonNootropics thanks but I will decide what to get worked up about and that name and its associations works me up.

BearyNiceEars · 23/02/2025 15:15

A bit of info as so many posters have alluded to needing to clean their rings. Obviously replating and professional polish can’t be done at home, but warm water, plenty of washing up liquid and an old toothbrush on stones and settings (outside and inside ring), followed by a good going over with an off the shelf polishing cloth, can help you work wonders at home!

Oblomov25 · 23/02/2025 16:33

@Peony15

I have no idea what your objection to the username is. You sound like a nutter. Yes I am aware of the 80th celebrations, I watched the uk one and the actual one from Auschwitz.
That has nothing to do with a character from Bottom, which was one of my favourite tv programmes.

ExcessiveNumberOfNinjas · 23/02/2025 16:49

MrsJoanDanvers · 22/02/2025 23:23

This reminds me of a colleague-who-when I was showing off my ring told me to hold on as she had to go and get her magnifying glass😂

Wow what a bitch. I take it she didn't get an invite to the wedding.

Remember, nothing says first wife like a modest engagement ring. If you are still wearing it 30 years later, when you can afford not to be, so much the better. It's all about the meaning, not the size of the rock.

DH and I have done quite well for ourselves so I got an upgrade for my 40th. But someone I once met who was very well off kept her original engagement ring which wasn't worth much. She said could afford any ring she wanted but she only wanted that one because it was bought when they were young and poor and it meant so much more than any massive diamond ever could. Looking at it kept her grounded.

It made me wish I wasn't so shallow to go for the upgrade. Hers is a much nicer story.

Lookingforwardto2025 · 23/02/2025 16:50

OMG that is gorgeous @Lemon1111!

Diamonds are forever!

A little understated for my taste

ExcessiveNumberOfNinjas · 23/02/2025 16:55

Also some people just don't like big or flashy jewellery. It doesn't sit comfortably on their hand or fit in with their active lifestyle or they feel weird and pretentious wearing it. Delicate or understated is no less lovely. The same with people choosing silver, or semi precious stones, or buying something interesting and vintage, or using a family hand me down with sentimental value. Or picking something completely original and a bit of an acquired taste that doesn't look like an engagement ring at all. You just do you and enjoy your lovely ring. Ignore the bitchy judgers and the one-upmanship merchants.
