I am seeing these in store and online in various retailers and think it could be a good weight for spring and different to the usual rain coat or denim jacket.
i saw a young woman wearing similar with wider leg jeans, suited her .
I am a lot older 😆 , youngest daughter said “ ugh “ so I thought I’d ask you lovely people

@whatawonderfultime yes, it's what you wear it with. I wear quite a bit of secondhand and vintage and the trick is to mix with something more current. Wearing the jacket with wide-legged jeans and trainers as above, is a completely look.

secondhand and vintage isn't necessarily granny chic, granny chic can be brand new but still looks granny no matter what it's worn with.

TipsyBlueOtter · 10/02/2025 20:56

You have to ask yourself, would Kate Middleton wear this? And if the answer is no, you put it down.

This is very much the exact opposite of how I approach getting dressed

quirkychick · 10/02/2025 21:21

@TipsyBlueOtter me too!

@whatawonderfultime we'll have to agree to disagree. FWIW I don't wear padded jackets, but think a pleated skirt is different to the way it's styled above.

Hear hear!
How boring life would be if we were all roaming the streets like Kate Middleton clones.

There was a lovely quilted jacket someone linked on S&B (from Next) a while back but I cannot for the life of me find it. It was quite intricate / had a bit of a hippy vibe. Does anyone know what I am on about?

Kbroughton · 11/02/2025 11:58

I love them, but I think they may be one of those pieces that if you are young and wear them they look cool and hip, and if you are older you look like your grandmother from the seventies.

Sorry - I don’t like it at all. It looks like an oven glove!

That’s exactly it! 😂

I love it (It's not quite what the OP was talking about though!)

I love it and just popped it in my basket! I’m 32

I had one almost identical to that in 1975 (they were fashionable then). Wish I'd kept it.

I was going to say the same thing. These were all the rage in the mid seventies.

StrawberryCake8 · 12/02/2025 12:18

I love it! I'd encourage my mum (fashionable lady, late 60's) to purchase

Just as well I saw your message. I was going to say the same thing. You can get them two for a tenner and just throw them over your shoulder. You even have pockets front and back!

HowAmITheCatsGranny · 12/02/2025 22:43

I’m not keen on the one in the OP (sorry!) but a PP linked to free people, and I would have been tempted by the yellow one they have in the sale if my size had been in stock.

BestIsWest · 13/02/2025 07:57

I have a Monsoon one bought about 3 years ago. It’s lovely, very pretty but I’ve hardly worn it. It’s too warm in the summer and too cold at this time of year. It doesn’t go with much either. It’s ok over a plain dress or with jeans but that’s about it. It’s a bit too stiff to be really comfortable.

TrixieMixie · 01/03/2025 18:09

DD is right, sorry.

wasieverreallyhere · 01/03/2025 19:30

I'm 50 granny to me trends don't bother me anyway

Yes I had one early 80s as a child:)

oakleaffy · 01/03/2025 20:33

Hideous and boxy - really frumpy - and padded cotton isn't warm, either.

AndreaB220 · 01/03/2025 21:39

I'm sorry but for £50it looks like a tea cosy

noodlebugz · 01/03/2025 21:41

I tried a levis one on and looked like a linebacker. So if it suits you and you like it - then go for it - but not everyone (myself included) can pull them off!

Sallyssn · 01/03/2025 22:26

The black and ivory one at M and S looks more stylish and a better cut...
The green one doesn't look very flattering.

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 01/03/2025 22:30

Been in for about 3 years, look great after being worn in/few washes.
Some can be boxy though.
Toast had a long coat version too.

Barney16 · 01/03/2025 22:35

My daughter has a couple and looks great. I'm not so keen, going to buy the Ganni quilted jacket instead. But I googled Hell Bunny and am definitely going to buy a dress🙂

Musthurry · 02/03/2025 01:17

Badlands1 · 07/02/2025 15:01

These slightly frumpy items always look great on skinny 18 year olds but less so on older women ( I'm firmly in that category myself) so would be a hard no from me.

I agree! Best to avoid if you have worn it first time around!

No good for women with busts - no darts!

doodahdayy · 02/03/2025 05:23

They would look frumpy on my middle aged self. I wear stuff that flatters me now not just because it's in fashion. I'm surprised there are so many middle aged fashion victims
