I am seeing these in store and online in various retailers and think it could be a good weight for spring and different to the usual rain coat or denim jacket.
i saw a young woman wearing similar with wider leg jeans, suited her .
I am a lot older 😆 , youngest daughter said “ ugh “ so I thought I’d ask you lovely people

Also had one in the 70's but they were not oversized, they fitted. These are so unflattering.

Bohemond23 · 07/02/2025 17:38

I have it and it’s great.
Looks great with the white Sienna jeans.
I am 52 and live in the countryside.

I have just returned from Spain where it seems at least every second man, woman or child was wearing a quilted jacket, or gilet.
Perhaps the style has reached saturation point.
I can't recall any busy printed patterns though. Thank heavens.

Spanish people have worn these for as long as I can remember. It is like an Autumn/Winter uniform, usually brown or a golden beige and a little more fitted than the one in the pic.
I bought a denim reversible one from Marks a couple of years ago and hardly ever wore it as it looked nice on the rail but decided it was too baggy after a couple of wears. Wish I had bought a Spanish one.

Ginmonkeyagain · 07/02/2025 19:22

Yeah Spanish people love a padded jacket/gilet. Usually.worn in temperatures that would see the average British person in shorts and a t shirt.

It's a bit hippy or rather more country style with that pattern. You get Vera Bradley and Cath Kidston ones like that. If you like it get it. I had a cream one from h and m three years ago with buttons which was great for travel in a warm California and now have a pale blue one.

Doggymummar · 07/02/2025 20:23

I made one in sewing class at school. Reversible, blue and white stripes one side and blue and white checks the other. I like them, was looking for one today.

I think I will look at Cath Kidston now 🙂

I had one in the 80s I think.

Reversible-pink one side, purple the other.

Still my fave colours!

ADHDHDHDHD · 07/02/2025 22:44

It looks like clothkits

Nitgel · 07/02/2025 22:50

Free people have a few in the sale https://www.freepeople.com/uk/sale-jackets-outerwear/

Fozzleyplum · 07/02/2025 23:33

They remind me of the jackets people at school in the 80s made up from Clothkits.

Grammarnut · 07/02/2025 23:57

I had something similar in the 80s. Interesting. Does it come in other colours?

CarGirlStar · 08/02/2025 00:27

Loads of young people in London buy them from portobello road market. It’s a “thing”.

That isn’t a recommendation

I think that someone found a group of warehouses full of 70’s market stall clothing and is trying to sell it on as the latest fashion

They looked like grannies bed jacket in the 70s and I can’t see what’s changed

If you have to ask for an outsiders opinion on clothing then put it back on the rack because you know it doesn’t suit you or you don’t love it enough to buy it

Sorry - I don’t like it at all. It looks like an oven glove!

True! It's a no from me.

pippapipps · 08/02/2025 07:01

No no no I think they look awful..I'm with your daughter..

CerealPosterHere · 08/02/2025 07:16

I have two , I have a black and white one from Zara which closes with pop studs which I wear a lot in spring and autumn. Have a blue and white from mint velvet which I wear less often, the colour doesn’t go with as much stuff and it closes with ties so isn’t as practical.

Lifestooshort71 · 08/02/2025 07:17

I was tempted to try one on but found it too unyielding and not as comfy as it appeared. I also looked 2 sizes fatter than I actually am - not a good look.

BarbieGirlInABarbieWorld · 08/02/2025 07:31

I love it, but it’s very much part of a ‘look’
I wish I could find the top underneath which I am not obsessively searching for 🤣🤣🤣

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 08/02/2025 07:39

There’s a shop in Amsterdam that sells very funky versions. I’m tempted, but feel at my age and size I’d be giving off “garden centre clothing section “ vibes.

It really does! printed cotton wadding is very 1980's

LivesinLondon2000 · 08/02/2025 07:41

I have a couple of printed quilted jackets like that. Love them. They’ve been ‘in’ for a few years now. Mine are from Lolly’s Laundry and Dilli Grey

faffadoodledo · 08/02/2025 07:43

I was in Korea last year where these jackets are routinely and traditionally worn. I nearly bought one and wish I had!

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 08/02/2025 07:51

I love it! It’s definitely “in” amongst my circles. Saw a friend with a lovely padded kimono jacket recently. I’m very into 70s inspired at the moment and would wear with wide jeans.

How old is your DD? I don’t think it would be in with teens or early twenties, they seem to be more into 00s style. But who wants to dress like that over 30 anyway 🤣
