I am seeing these in store and online in various retailers and think it could be a good weight for spring and different to the usual rain coat or denim jacket.
i saw a young woman wearing similar with wider leg jeans, suited her .
I am a lot older 😆 , youngest daughter said “ ugh “ so I thought I’d ask you lovely people

That's funny, I've just got the pattern to make one for my mum (85). Looked a bit easier to manage in her wheelchair than a cardigan.

I love it! It’s definitely “in” amongst my circles. Saw a friend with a lovely padded kimono jacket recently. I’m very into 70s inspired at the moment and would wear with wide jeans.

How old is your DD? I don’t think it would be in with teens or early twenties, they seem to be more into 00s style. But who wants to dress like that over 30 anyway 🤣

She’s 27 and would wear hoodies and joggers on a daily basis until she needed to look a bit smarter .
then she would wear something quite quirky such as a dress from Hell Bunny with ballet pumps and jacket or cardigan

I looked like I was wearing nans bed jacket. However, I do have a comedy size chest on a small frame so lean into frump more easily than your average woman

I’m small and slim , decent size boobs but not comedy size 😆 it looked nice on me but my girl pulling a face made me reconsider.
I couldn’t ask my husband as he would wear anything that was clean and fitted him 😂 he’s not bothered

I had something similar in the 80s. Interesting. Does it come in other colours?

In M&S they have one that’s black and white print .
i also noticed they had a cream one in NEXT with navy embroidery ( slightly more expensive than the M&S one )

I really like it. I don’t mind looking like an oven glove. 😂

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 08/02/2025 10:10

I don't like the jacket but having googled Hell Bunny I'm not sure I'd take your daughter's word as the arbiter of what is or isn't stylish.

But as a previous poster said if you have to ask a third party if it's ok and then ask on here it's probably a "no" That's not because the people you are asking are objectively right but you don't like it enough.

Free people have a few in the sale https://www.freepeople.com/uk/sale-jackets-outerwear/

What sort a shambles is that website!

Googled Hell Bunny and I would wear that style . Can’t see what is so awful

Love their coats

Yalta · 08/02/2025 14:24

Apart from the skeleton jumper I like most of the stuff on there

ThePoshUns · 08/02/2025 14:51

I bought one from River island last year. It was very pretty but made me look frumpy so I just sold it on Vinted.

I am definitely not their target market but some of the vintage style dresses are lovely

I think it’s frumpy. A willowy young thing could possibly carry it off. But on an older woman, it screams dowdy bed jacket.

coolcahuna · 08/02/2025 17:54

I got a lovely leopard one from River Island last year and worn it absolutely loads. Looks great with jeans or over a black dress.

Not so sure on these floral ones though.

ginasevern · 07/02/2025 13:05

I had one almost identical to that in 1975 (they were fashionable then). Wish I'd kept it.

I remember them too but thought they were more of a hippy Indian cotton thing then?

Gymrabbit · 08/02/2025 21:01

I think it’s vile and I’ve literally never seen anyone where I live wear one.
Is it a very middle class Chiswick/richmond type thing? I feel like it’s something Amanda would wear in motherland/amandaland.

muckandmerriment · 08/02/2025 21:32

I really like them. They were definitely a thing in the 70s and 80s too especially the Indian block print style. They've been back for a while and everywhere does them from Zara, Mango etc to Damson Madder & Never Fully Dressed. I think they're quite classic, although some are edgier than others (puff sleeves / contrasting colours and patterns etc) so they may date more quickly. The sleeveless version is also appearing a lot now too, especially the ones with tie fastening at the front.

CheerfulBunny · 08/02/2025 23:03

I've got a couple - they are amazingly warm considering they are so light. They squish down for packing plus they wash well. I've had my blue and white one for roughly four years, I'd never part with it and a reversible black silk one. I honestly couldn't give a crap whether they are fashionable or not.

tipsyraven · 08/02/2025 23:03

I tried one on last year and looked very frumpy in it.

Gardendiary · 08/02/2025 23:13

I quite like them, but I suspect with my size and stauture I would end up looking like a padded box.

Game0fCrones · 08/02/2025 23:29

It reminds me of my Gran's bed jacket. Sorry.

Thingymajigii · 09/02/2025 01:11

Some of the trendier mums have been wearing them on the school run over the last couple of years but they only seem to look good if you're a size 8 or 10 anything bigger doesn't seem to look right hence why I haven't bothered.

Thornybush · 09/02/2025 02:04

Nice colour, I like it! If you love it that's all that matters. Ignore your teen lol

Sugargliderwombat · 09/02/2025 02:34

I used to say 'ugh' to everything my mum liked when I was a teenager. If she liked it, it must be awful. She probably doesn't help your confused meerkat approach to shopping.

DramaAlpaca · 09/02/2025 02:52

I had a reversible one in the 80s; I wouldn't wear one now.

That said, the students round my way are wearing them so they are definitely back in fashion.
