Is this dress a bit dated?

I like it but am aware that apparently floral dresses have “had their day”. I am in my 40s so probably fat face target audience

I’m not saying all of those things just giving examples of ways to wear it differently. Geez.

Not everything has to be accessorised. There's enough going on with dress without adding more. The OP had already said no trainers and denim jacket.

No it doesn’t and every opinion doesn’t have to be proven wrong. That's your opinion and I’m sure you are stylish and that’s how you would wear it. I gave a suggestion and have worn dresses like this with those things mentioned and been complimented so it isn’t wrong. And I wrote the accessories list before OP said no to those things.

Why do you feel the need to keep arguing an opinion. Let it go.

Tonkall · 30/01/2025 18:05

Well, I've just ordered one after seeing it on this thread! Let's see what it looks like on.

If it's nice, I was thinking of wearing it with these in tan (but would welcome opinions on that combination...)

Love it! Really pretty

chargeitup · 30/01/2025 18:23

It's a very normal dress. Not fashionable but not awful. Just receipt of dress millions of women have in their summer wardrobe. It will be fine for a bunch of occasions. No one will recoil in horror

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 30/01/2025 18:27

I don’t get the volume of posters saying “don’t follow trends” on Style and Beauty?! Why you here then 🤣

I’m not totally ruled by trends but I wouldn’t want to look too dated so I do take some notice. So for example I’ve moved on from skinny jeans in favour of a barrel leg.

For me, the dress is nice. Nothing from Fatface is overly trendy so just be careful how you style it.

LivesinLondon2000 · 30/01/2025 18:41

I think the dress you linked is lovely.
I still love floral dresses. My favourite are by Pink City Prints. They’re not super trendy at the moment but I don’t think a pretty floral pattern and a flattering dress shape will ever be completely unfashionable.

botanicalprint · 30/01/2025 18:44

It looks a bit supermarket fashion 😬 but it's also inoffensive. I don't think the colour would suit many people tbh.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 30/01/2025 18:53

I was going to ask the same question about whether mine is dated too... but I have a nagging feeling I know the answer...🦖

Is this dress a bit dated?

I really like those, would go well. I need a cheaper version 😁

Am in my 40s. Have never bought anything in Fatface. (In fact, I don't think I've even looked in there since it first opened - they had a store in Thomas Neal in Covent Garden and realised it wasn't my cup of tea!)

The dress is fine.

Don't belt it. A belt will spoil the drape of the dress and way it hangs.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 30/01/2025 19:25

I'm nearly 40. I think it's lovely. What on earth has the model got on her feet though?! Definitely pair with something nicer! Even plain flip flops would be nicer than those dirty looking sandals

letsfaceitwhoisnt · 30/01/2025 19:33

I love it! I'm late 30's and I would say I'm into fashion.

berightorbehappy · 30/01/2025 19:34

It’s ok for summer or daily wear but l wouldn’t buy it for an occasion .
Florals can look a bit frumpy but it depends on the person . If you’re super stylish ( l’m not ! ) you can get away with anything .

TappyGilmore · 30/01/2025 19:45

I think the dress is fine but it really comes down to your colouring and whether it will suit you. The first model is too pale for it and it totally washes her out (doesn’t help that her hair is a mess and her sandals are grumpy). It looks much better on the other model.

Lovethatforyouhun · 30/01/2025 19:53

Its a very typical middle aged mum dress. The wrappy bit in the chest is very 2000s and dated.
But there is nothing wrong with being a middle aged mum!!!! Its not fashionable or on trend, but who says you have to be?

It is hard to explain without sounding ageist and sexist!!

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 30/01/2025 20:00

I will totally embrace the middle age Mum look hahaha

CerealPosterHere · 30/01/2025 20:02

It’s giving me Kirsty Allsop vibes and I don’t mind that 🤣

OP posts:
Beetlebumz · 30/01/2025 20:04

It’s nice, just don’t wear it with white trainers and a denim jacket, I think that look is a little dated now.

Beetlebumz · 30/01/2025 20:07

I see others have already said that! Sorry 😎

Vroomvroooom · 30/01/2025 20:18

I (late 30s) wouldn’t wear it because I don’t really do print or colour or frills… But it’s not a bad dress! My mum would definitely wear it and I’ve forwarded her the link as I think it would look great and not frumpy at all on her. *That’s not intended as an insult by the way, she’s early 60s but she looks a lot younger and always dresses really well!

strangeandfamiliar · 30/01/2025 20:37

I quite like it, but then I have lots of similarish things in my wardrobe. I'm starting to wonder what on earth I'm going to wear this summer. The midi dress and trainers thing has been so easy and useful over the past few years, starting with that white spotty Zara dress that absolutely everyone seemed to have in 2019 (including me!)

lifeonmars100 · 30/01/2025 20:50

I like the print but it is tiered, I really do not like tiers and flounces, they make dresses look too overdone and busy for my tastes.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 30/01/2025 21:12

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 30/01/2025 17:06

These
Tu red shoes

Or these
Tu red shoes 2

It was the second ones I saw. But both are lovely. Jeez I don't need any more temptation!!

whydoihavetowork · 30/01/2025 21:14

I would look awful in it but some people could get away with it, like Kirstie Allsop.
