Is this dress a bit dated?

I like it but am aware that apparently floral dresses have “had their day”. I am in my 40s so probably fat face target audience

I’ve got brown birkis I could wear with it or green and pink adidas specizals. Got a nice quilted Mint velvet jacket which might work, or a bright pink cardigan if too warm for a jacket. I was half joking on the denim jacket and trainers as I know that would not be a trendy look overall.

If you’re shopping in FatFace you know you’re going for that cottage core vibe, so from that perspective it’s fine.

I think it’s frumpy, sorry.

It’s not too bad on the first model, but it does no favours for the larger one.

I’m nearer the size of the first model than the second.

I think it's frumpy sorry. I'm early 40s so not young. Fat Face just isn't me at all so wouldn't like anything from there.

namechangeGOT · 30/01/2025 15:55

41 here and I think it's Frumptastic sorry!! However, it's not me wearing it and if you like it and feel good in it then away you go - as it should be!

Rainingalldayonmyhead · 30/01/2025 16:08

No it’s lovely but if you a re feeling that way consider a few accessories - belt, cool sunglasses, denim jacket, trainers, jewellery etc.

BobbyBiscuits · 30/01/2025 16:10

It's quite a traditional style that doesn't really go 'out of fashion' I don't think. It looks cute for spring/summer.
If you want high fashion then fat face isn't it, but their stuff is nice and this one in particular I think would suit most ages and sizes.

JollyViper · 30/01/2025 16:10

I don't like it, sorry. Similar age to you.
I don't think tired dresses make anyone look great, I don't like the base colour I'm also not overly keen on the colour scheme used for the flowers.
I wouldn't even notice it, if I walked past you, it's only going to the website to have a 'proper' look at it.
Why don't you but it and see if it makes you happy when you try it on, if it's just a bit meh you could return it?

TheOGCCL · 30/01/2025 16:17

I'd say its pretty classic, in the same way skinny jeans remain a classic.

I'd also say it depends on the wearer really. That's quite a romantic dress so it wouldn't suit me. I suit neat, plain, classic clothes. If I put that on, it would look like I was wearing someone else's clothes and look pretty frumpy and dated. But someone else could wear with it with pazazz and look absolutely stunning.

CerealPosterHere · 30/01/2025 16:17

I’m hoping the tier isn’t too noticeable irl.

Chewbecca · 30/01/2025 16:18

I think it’s nice but it is a bit dated now so it depends entirely on how bothered you are about that.

CerealPosterHere · 30/01/2025 13:35

I’m not fussed about being super trendy with this dress, I get it’s not edgy fashion. Just don’t want to be a dowdy frump either 🤣. Thanks, will order it and see what it’s like on. Colour might not even suit me as I’m quite pale.

its a nice dress but agree that it would probably look better on someone with a bit of a tan and possibly blonde, don’t think it would suit me as I’m pale and a brunette

StupidBitchy · 30/01/2025 16:24

Florals? For Spring? Lol
I'd say you can probably make it more current with the shoes and hair.

TheSilentSister · 30/01/2025 16:40

I like it.
I purchased 3 floral dresses in the sales last year and looking forward to wearing them this year, fashionable or not. If it fits you well, you feel good, wear it - that's my motto.

RobinEllacotStrike · 30/01/2025 16:43

I've been off florals for about 10 years but I don't see this as floral.

I think it's a really lovely dress.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 30/01/2025 16:47

Oh I love it! Somone posted a pair of red mary jane ballerina type shoes (from Sainsburys?) on another thread on S&B recently and they would go perfectly with this dress! I'm on a low spend 2025 so don't want to be tempted but if I was being bold I'd buy both Smile

BarnacleBeasley · 30/01/2025 16:48

I'm early 40s and not against Fat Face but I don't like it. I think IF you don't notice the tier, it's because the print and colour make it hard to notice anything much about the cut, which is what may end up making it look frumpy. In the third picture (close up) you can actually see details of the cut which I actually do like - it looks like it could be really flattering around the bust and waist. But in the further-away pictures you can't really see any of that so it looks more shapeless even though it isn't. It might look better in real life.

I’ve got some cream Mary janes and some nice green ballerina shoes both of which I thought might go but could be tempted by red Mary janes. Off to have a look 😁

I don't like it. I don't like the very pale colour unless for summer and I don't like the drop waist. I don't like the pattern or the v neck.

I like floral if done in a more modern way.

BountifulPantry · 30/01/2025 16:56

I think the print is outdated and a bit fussy.

having said that, I don’t think I’d look twice at anyone wearing it- it would blend in during spring/ summer.

Trainers, belt and a denim jacket would ruin that dress.

I’m not saying all of those things just giving examples of ways to wear it differently. Geez.

MsWintertowne · 30/01/2025 17:36

Yes … But you may not have read the discussion within the thread about the trainers and denim jacket question, @Raining?

And to be frank there’s already so much detail around the bodice of the dress that the addition of a belt would be - clumsy.

Marlaysydney12 · 30/01/2025 17:37

I think it's quite nice. But, I find that length sleeve unflattering, and I'm always wary of viscose dresses shrinking in the wash.
