Okay, I've been trying NOT to post about this, but ...

... surely the nipple prominence on this website is totally ridiculous? I'm not being prudish, but would anyone feel comfortable going out like that? There are multiple examples on this site.

I was wondering about bra-wearing the other day. Why do we do it? To prevent our breasts from sagging, or hanging low, so they’re still considered sexually attractive to men? To conceal our nipples to reduce the amount of sexual harassment we’re subjected to by men? Are men the reason we wear them? If we never had to see a man again would most women just discard their bras?

I wear a bra for personal comfort, not to gratify the male gaze. Okay, yes, you can get raunchy bras in red and black lace etc, but you can also buy pull on bras that aren't the least bit sexy, but OMG, they are so comfortable.

Why shouldn't we be comfortable? Not everyone wants their boobs to swing freely, regardless of the nipple aspect.

Exploitative pish aimed at getting people talking about the company. Clearly trying to be edgy and push the boundaries but it’s all rather 😞

I am a 32G and have to wear one for support. I like taking it off at bedtime, but for anything else it is way more comfortable to have one on. The comment about jogging without a bra on main me involuntarily wince. In all honesty I don't think I could go without one for the attention it would attract either. Big boobs move a lot without a bra and it would just look too overtly sexual. I am in the UK though - maybe elsewhere this wouldn't happen but I would still want mine for the support. I found Bravissimo aged 15 and have never looked back!

I think she looks great. I would expect to see this look in a sophisticated fashion crowd having cocktails in Paris or New York.

More like a hippie commune in Alabama

I'm a 30J and I sleep with a bra on as it's uncomfortable without one. When I was breast feeding I even showered with a bra on as the weight was unbearable. Not going to be getting rid of my bras any time soon!

They consistently try to put me into a 32 back. With a bra extender adding two inches, Bravissimo bras still hurt. I bought some 34H bralettes from Sparks the other day and they are less painful, but Sparks don't go any bigger in cup size and mine keep getting bigger.

That's weird. I haven't been fitted there in years but always found them good at it. Bravissimo sell up to 34KK and they also do some bralettes now. Maybe try again but forgo the fitting? They usually leave you alone if you politely decline it.

I stopped wearing them maybe about a year ago except as you say for special occasions or an outfit that needs it. I’m not sure why we put ourselves through the discomfort of them, it’s just been grilled into to us i suppose.

I stopped wearing them during lockdown 2020, I now only ever wear non-wired bralettes, and I work from home 5 days a week, so most days I don't even wear those. I might throw on a wired bra if it's a really special occasion, but rarely, as I find them extremely uncomfortable. On the plus side, my boobs have definitely perked up!

I was but then, post menopause, my ribs started objecting and my contact allergies flared up so I had constant rashes where the straps were. I only wear one for high days and holidays in the winter but more in the summer as my nipples do get sore when I'm hot and they rub and some of my summer clothes can be a bit transparent.

Ditto. Have lost days of my life to professional bra fittings in expensive specialist shops and now genuinely believe there is no bra comfortable enough for a perimenopausal woman size F or larger to wear for 4 hours or more per day. I rip mine off the minute I walk in the door. Horrid things.

I hate Bravissimo bras the most! They all hurt and dig in

Bravissimo fitters are trained to basically try to crack your ribs with the tightness of the back strap.

MsGoodenough · 25/01/2025 14:33

I love Bravissimo! It was honestly life changing to find bras that fitted and were supportive! M and S had me in a 36D when I was a 30H. John Lewis also do good tight fittings.

Some of the fitters overcorrect on the "most women are in a bra that is too big around the strap and too small in the cup" front. I'm glad you found fitters who don't do that.

One thing I never realised until being fitted though is that a new bra should only fit on the outermost hooks. The idea is that the band will stretch with wearing and then you have leeway to tighten it using the inner hooks. This means that a new bra on anything other than the outer hooks will feel way too tight.

Bravissimo will put me in a bra on the outer hooks, I will add a bra extender on its outer hooks, and the bra still hurts.

I only wear a bra for the 16 hours I work. Always hated them and as I am now very old I no longer care what people think
