I bought this and love it but I'm having doubts - I am 50 - is this mutton dressed as lamb territory?
I am size 10 and 5'2" so it is almost knee length on me, fits very well but but but....

@User8971 of course they are, it was just confusing for a moment. I did acknowledge that and I've been on your side throughout this thread..,

It says it was £600 on Net-a-Porter.

It's too small for the Net a Porter model.
Net-a-Porter

reduced to £170 i suspect because no one even considered the “fabric and craftsmanship” worthy of £600!

@itsstillmehere I spend a month in Australia 2x a year for work so yeah
Farmers are a varied bunch - some uninformed views on here

well by the sounds of it, farming doesn’t take up much time if you were able to dedicate 80 hours a week for 20 years building up your consultancy business! 😆

Mencia · 16/01/2025 10:21

@User8971 sad you are returning it but if it is my size I will be ordering it!
I had missed it in NaP because the tile you see when looking at Sea NY dresses does not do this dress any justice.
Re quality and craftmanship, all of my Sea NY garments are very well made and not coming from China, which is a must for me.

its just whether posters like or dislike a dress…. no “sides” surely?

goodgirlclassicthing · 16/01/2025 10:35

@redstroll it's a turn of phrase

It's a 10 and going back today - they have a 6 and an 8 in stock now I think - and it has gone down to £180!

@goodgirlclassicthing oh I didn't mean that to seem unkind - I am very appreciative for all the opinions and good humour on here - it's been helpful to see a wide range of views.

I am a bit of an odd ball I know, but also quite unconcerned with anyone doubting what I say is true on an anonymous posting, it's just a bit of a laugh isn't it?

I do find it bizarre how much time some invest in searching user names and repeatedly making weird troll hunting comments, but then I am too busy farming, running a business, travelling the world and swanning round in £600 dresses to give a shit aren't I 😂😂😂

i highly doubt anyone ever thought that dress for £600 hence the massive slash in price!!!

goodgirlclassicthing · 16/01/2025 10:46

@User8971 that made me laugh, picturing you swanning about the farm in elaborate outfits and wellies while taking important business calls right left and centre 😄 It's why I name change constantly cos I can't be arsed with the people who want to pick through everything we've ever commented lol. MN is a strange wee place sometimes and who knew a style and beauty topic could be more dramatic than AIBU? 😂 Enjoy your day OP ♥️♥️♥️

@Mencia @MsWintertowne this is my all time fav... https://www.smallable.com/en/product/cordera-embroidered-dress-black-sea-ny-343271?country=GB&currency=GBP&gQT=1

Where do you find Sea NY in the UK - as PP said I find it hard to locate. I would have loved the Drea top but couldn't find anywhere outside the US? I don't like to order from US due to horrendous import taxes and they often won't take returns.

I keep thinking about that top 😂

Keeponkeepingon9 · 16/01/2025 11:49

OP, May I ask the reason you have decided to send it back?

MsWintertowne · 16/01/2025 11:59

N-a-P, Farfetch, The Outnet (discount store) are all places I’m familiar with. Also stocked by Coggles and The Hambledon, and a few places I don’t know at all.

I googled ‘Sea NY clothing UK’. You could look them all up and see if any have the top you’re interested in? Lyst may or may not be quicker / more accurate.

User8971 · 16/01/2025 12:01

@Keeponkeepingon9 I have returned it as I wouldn't get enough wear from it - I only like to keep things I'll wear over and over again. PP comments made me rethink and realise I only really like the top - which I really, really like - and it is fun to have a golden apple to search for on ebay - keeps me out of mischief. So I've set an ebay search and will keep an eye out and my fingers crossed :)

NaP and Coggles online.
Harrods in the past, but a very limited selection and have not seen anything for SS25.
I travel to Paris for work quite regularly. They stock a limited selection of Sea at Galeries Lafayette and Printemps and from this season at Le Bon Marche (very good selection atm).
Wow! in Madrid, but not available online.
It is worth checking BHFO (US online outlet) every now and then. I have emailed them with offers at lower prices than advertised (to avoid extra taxes and duties) and they have accepted them. I bought a dress and a jacket from them at great prices. They are also on eBay.

User8971 · 16/01/2025 12:07

Thanks so much @MsWintertowne @Mencia this is bad for my bank balance but has made me very happy - I'll be googling tonight :)

I do think there is some misogyny on this thread where a woman is considered too old to wear something. Let's not assist misogynistic men by doing it ourselves.

Is it misogyny?I don’t think so.

If my 50 something husband wanted to wear certain items that our 22 year old might wear, I’d say ‘you’re too old for that’. Our son buys his clothes exclusively from Urban Outfitters and I can safely say his (slim and fashionable) dad would look ridiculous in 90% of it because he’s Just Too Old.

There a reason certain retailers cater for certain age groups.

I don't think it's misogyny, most of the replies will be from women.

Bigcat25 · 16/01/2025 18:33

Women can and sometimes have internalized misogyny, or ageism. If op and her family like the dress and think it suits her why should she be discouraged from wearing it? I don't think men are told their clothes are too youthful nearly as often.

Maybe they should be.😖

Costcolover · 16/01/2025 18:39

Far too old I'm afraid OP. That is a dress for late teens early/mid twenties max

Men’s clothes are more limited than women’s, that’s a huge reason why it doesn’t happen as often.

If women’s wardrobes consisted of suits/trousers/shorts/shirts and sweaters there would be less opportunity.
