@TosstTastic the length is actually ok , comes just below my calves which I like. it's the shoulder straps that are a bit long . I see in reviews some have had them altered . I could also move the buttons a bit 🤔 I'm still pondering .
Do I need it ? No . Do I want it ? probably 😂

IlovePond · 22/01/2025 15:00

Hi, I have somehow managed to book a mini break for DH’s birthday that takes us straight past Shepton Mallet. (A huge coincidence 😹)

I will be popping in on Saturday morning so will report back!

@IlovePond thank you for the tip re the Uniqlo cord jacket. I bought the grey in an M (which was all that was left that might fit). Just arrived and it's perfect with jeans, sweater and a scarf. And a bargain at £20 ❤️

Enjoy SM 😃

Linocut · 22/01/2025 15:27

@IlovePond de-lurking to say I see that some of the velvet throws are now reduced on the Niki Jones website.
If you're still deliberating....😉

IlovePond · 22/01/2025 15:44

Glad you got a jacket @PrincessofWells - they are lovely, aren’t they!

Ooh, thanks @Linocut - off to look…

My final sales parcel has arrived. Going on my principal that if it doesn’t wow when I first put it on, I shouldn’t keep it, the stripe poplin gathered dress would be going back. However, there is something about it I love: the quality and colour of the fabric is just stunning but I do wish it buttoned all the way down so that some of the bottom buttons could be left undone and provide a bit of ‘relief’ from the feeling of a long nightshirt. I am pondering getting it altered to make it fully button up/down but wondering if I love it enough. Has anyone kept and loved it?

I ordered the Kantha pinafore in 10 and 12 and although I haven’t tried the 12 on yet, I think the 10 is the right size. I do think this could be styled to look fabulous but, like the organic denim pinafore dress, there needs to be a solution to the shoulders constantly falling down, especially when you sit down. Someone upthread mentioned silicon strips which I am going to look into.

I also ordered a lia garment dyed boat neck tee in ‘smalt’ (royal blue to us). Toast do tend to get their teeshirts right, always a great cut and neckline which elevates them against cheaper tees and makes them worth the money.

Dorisdolalee · 22/01/2025 17:22

I also have the kantha dress which I love for its ability to be both day dress and potentially something special. I struggle in floaty dresses so I like the sort of school uniform vibes of the kanthan dress. I am also very interested to know how others deal with the straps falling down. I have been wearing I with the Cos thin merino roll necks which I usually get in the sale. I think it would look great with the red merino layer that they have but is OOS.

Stravaig · 22/01/2025 17:32

I may be visualising the wrong garment, but surely a Toast pinafore dress should have front pockets generously loaded with obscure objets which act as ballast to anchor the shoulders in place ... ?

(exits precariously up a ladder)

If only one could buy a pinafore and an overpriced dibber from the same location like in the good old days. The spare change left could provide the ballast.

ToastCosILoveIt · 22/01/2025 18:26

So, I had tried on what I thought was the 10 Kantha but was in fact the 12. I then tried on what I thought was the 12 and was in fact the 10! There is an indiscernible difference between the two, but somehow the 10 felt slightly better on the bodice. I did them up and held them against one another and yes, they were almost identical. So, I am keeping the 10 and sending back the 12, and I am also sending back the striped poplin dress because, well, spending that much money shouldn’t have to be so hard in terms of having to get it altered to look good. We all know that the poplin will be in the sale again next time as that’s how Toast rolls, I expect at a higher price with a late sale reduction down to the £70 I paid for it.

I do like the Kantha, it is a beautiful quality piece and very unique, I will get a lot of wear out of it I am sure.

IlovePond · 22/01/2025 18:46

Ah, the infamous dibber @TosstTastic - I would love to know if anyone actually bought one 😹

Well, there is some dye transfer from the indigo vest. Not as much as I thought there might be, but enough that I wouldn’t risk wearing anything light coloured underneath. Argh. What to do. I don’t want to risk washing it, but I do really want to be able to wear it with anything and everything.

AmethystMoonShine · 22/01/2025 20:14

Indigo can be a nightmare in my experience @ScottishMouse. I don't think the dye ever fixes, even with salt and washing, it can sometimes still rub on pale colours. I had a beautiful indigo dyed cotton cardigan/jacket once that looked so good with jeans and a white tee, but the tee was blue afterwards and it meant I couldn't remove the cardigan/jacket once I'd got dressed!
That said I have quite a lot of Toast Indigo items and it doesn't put me off, I just stick to wearing with dark colours. Indigo is so beautiful.

I sent back the navy cotton/linen v neck tank today. It was a great fit but I'm just not sure it's very me and I don't think I'd wear it because of that.

I've got the space dyed tank on the way and the liquorice linen dress that was heavily reduced. I'm doubting I'll keep it now I think about it. I have it in the bright blue that they also had it in and love it, but I have a feeling the dark grey will drain me.

ScottishMouse · 22/01/2025 20:24

@AmethystMoonShine I have a few pairs of the indigo Alix trousers and have found that they just need a wash or two and then there is no more dye leakage. I had assumed the vest would be the same but then realised it is dry clean only, so not sure I want to risk washing it. The vest would be so useful if I didn’t have to plan what I was going to wear underneath, I hate clothing items that impose restrictions on how to pair them.
I tried that cotton linen tank and also sent it back for similar reasons. It just wasn’t me, although it is very lovely.

AmethystMoonShine · 22/01/2025 21:01

I’ve had the indigo Alix too and agree they do behave themselves.

shrinkingthiswinter · 22/01/2025 21:16

I sent back the Kantha pinafore. It’s beautiful and the straps didn’t fall down because my shoulders are proper wide. But it made me look like a waitress. A nice friendly buxom one with a good waist. But nonetheless.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 22/01/2025 22:08

@AmethystMoonShine I bought the navy cotton linen v-neck tank full price and didn’t wear it for ages, but once I’d found a few things it went with I’ve worn it loads.
I've been looking at the new version, but I don’t like the fig and I feel the slate is too similar to the navy. I’m hoping they might have some different colours in another drop.

PeonyBlush10 · 22/01/2025 23:22

@whinsome hope you are happy with the merino wrap, it is super soft and warm, although I feel a little
guilty I encouraged you to break your no spend. I’ve worn it so many times the eventual cost per wear will amount to pennies.
Has anyone purchased the new striped smock shirt in brick? It’s selling out rapidly so I ordered one today although I’d prefer to have bought it next month. Does it feel good when on? I’m wondering whether it could look a bit shapeless but overall I think I will end up loving it.

Zeusrules · 23/01/2025 09:55

I'm hoping to visit the Toast shop in York today to view a few items, the staff are all lovely so it is always a joy compared to some other branches. It will hopefully make up for discovering that the Margaret Howell outlet just outside York has closed.

Stravaig · 23/01/2025 10:04

Exciting, multiple shop visits imminent! Our very own Lives 😆

TosstTastic · 23/01/2025 11:06

The staff in Harrogate were lovely on my recent visit!

And I'm.enjoying the face book page when 'things I used to have' crop up.
I'm not going back and rebuying because I wear stuff to distruction, I need to move on! This has to be 15 years old, any ideas anyone, not that that's a problem in any way.

Lots of new stuff in Reworn!

AFingerofFudge · 23/01/2025 12:16

I have simultaneously ordered a green kaleidoscope blouse from the reworn section and still marvelled at the brass neck of selling an item, persuading someone to give it back after they've worn in, and then selling it again.
Yes yes they are telling us it's all the name of contributing towards our green credentials, but even so......Grin

Snowyowl78 · 23/01/2025 12:33

There one of those green poplin jackets at the same price as was in the sale!

OftenOrange · 23/01/2025 12:55

@AFingerofFudge I’m not in favour either but have just bought the Birkestock ‘ Bostons which I returned from the sale as too large. Listed as’as new’ so they must have been used on a shoot , or a return possibly .

I agree it’s colossal cheek , and hark at the sanctimonious article about the Circle members who have donated!
