@Netcam So stylish!

@VivienneDelacroix I didn't visualise those dresses being so long! I'm a similar, medium height.

I quite like longer skirts/dresses, but with a more flowy-willowy silhouette, if that makes sense to anyone? Toast tends toward the voluminous, and the other option tends to be tight bodycon with/out split (very not my thing). Don't know what to call the in-between cut, but someone must do it, surely? Long, easy/swishy, but not full.

(My brain is powering down as I try to express myself, clunk, grind, pffft ....)

VivienneDelacroix · 30/12/2024 21:38

I know what you mean @Stravaig , more of a skimming fit, rather than voluminous. There are so many oversized fits that Toast do that look beautiful on the models but look dreadful on me.
My best loved pieces have been pinafore dresses and jumpsuits where there is more shape at the waist.

I'm currently looking wistfully at the Johnstons of Elgin sale pages.

Stoic123 · 30/12/2024 21:46

@Nosejug - sorry for your loss; very understandable need for safety and warmth.

@VivienneDelacroix - thanks for posting your photos. I'm same size and height - perhaps a bit more pear than you. Good to see dresses in real life.

neveradullmoment99 · 30/12/2024 22:09

Thanks for the new thread :)

OftenOrange · 30/12/2024 22:29

@VivienneDelacroix I also like the two dresses on you very much , and don’t see the drawbacks you mention, but if you’re not feeling right no point keeping .

General point on jumpsuits ,I’ve always appreciated avoided layering as the fabrics cling together and it makes it a nightmare getting out.
I do love the casual chic and think they look great on the two who posted…sorry forgotten who..maybe @Stravaig @Theteapotsbrokenspout

Netcam · 30/12/2024 23:26

@Nosejug hugs to you and hope you feel well cared for

Netcam · 30/12/2024 23:28

@VivienneDelacroix I think the Cashmere cotton dress is beautiful and I can imagine it feels lovely to wear.

But I feel your pain with the hanging off the boobs like a tent look. I have similar issues with anything that shape and sometimes think these styles are designed for flat chested women.

VivienneDelacroix · 30/12/2024 23:58

Thank you everyone for your kind comments on the dresses. I'll have another try on the morning, we were back in the dark tonight. Maybe I could try an M&S minimiser bra to get a more Toast-like aesthetic!

oddandelsewhere · 31/12/2024 07:47

Thank you @IlovePond for starting a new thread. I'm going to be at home for ages recuperating, and that seems to have made me even keener on nice clothes than usual, I suppose because it's something I can have control over.
I haven't bought much though, just the Toast black padded jacket which I'm sure gives me the same feeling as @Nosejug's housecoat (and my thoughts are with you @Nosejug ) and @ScottishMouse's warm robe. The other things are a pair of OSKA cord trousers and a Grizas jumper with a fabulous big collar.
Even more than usual I'm looking forward to spring and some new Toast dresses!

Having said there’s nothing in the sale of any interest to me, the only thing I am contemplating is this:

https://www.toa.st/collections/sale/products/cotton-linen-twill-gathered-waist-dress-indigo-blue

I suspect it would be too tight across the bust and make me look like I was wearing a workhouse uniform. However, something about it is calling me.

Does anyone have it or has tried it on?

Thanks

@IlovePond I haven't got that dress, although I'm sure the pattern is really similar to the check crinkle pinafore which I do have and really like. I have the shirt which is worn over the dress in the photo and which I suppose is the same fabric and it's the softest cosiest shirt I own. The combination looks irresistable.

IlovePond · 31/12/2024 09:11

Thanks @oddandelsewhere - I do love soft materials!

OP posts:
ScottishMouse · 31/12/2024 09:11

@IlovePond i tried it early in the season. It is the same as the check crinkle dress from previous seasons as @oddandelsewhere says. If you have any busy to speak of, size up. I am a busty 12 and have the crinkle one in M but it is very fitted on the bust. I tried this one in M and it was the same and in L it was a tiny bit gapey under the arms. It’s a lovely style though, and could be worn on its own in summer.

IlovePond · 31/12/2024 09:14

Thanks @ScottishMouse !

@Nosejug 💐

@VivienneDelacroix I like both on you. The green is particularly nice. I think Toast’s large checks are difficult to wear . I always feel worn by them rather than vice versa and if you have a doubt probably best to return.

Not much left in the sale really. I’m interested to see what they produce for the next season. Everything seems slightly gloomy at the moment apart from the delicious bright blue things. For me jumpers were particularly unexciting this winter.

I agree with @ScottishMouse about the sizing of the crinkle pinafore. Mine is I think, the same one as @oddandelsewhere .

TosstTastic · 31/12/2024 09:37

I've just tried the green version of that dress. It's going back. If you have the right chest to waist ratio it will be a winner, lovely fabric, didn't work for me. (Broad shoulder, ex hour glass).

I have got the shirt & trousers in that blue cotton, linen twill. As @oddandelsewhere says, it's a real comfort fabric, lightweight and drapes beautifully.

OrangeyLemon · 31/12/2024 09:52

I think the jumpsuit looks better on you than on the model @Theteapotsbrokenspout I got the indigo jumpsuit in the sale. It’s the only jumpsuit I’ve ever had and it feels a bit daring. I wore it on a night out- no comments but my sparkly ankle socks were admired. I hope I’ve made the right decision!
I also like the dresses on you @VivienneDelacroix Definitely try on again in different light before making up you mind.
I’m very sorry for your loss @Nosejug That must be so painful. Hope 2025 will be a great year for you, and wishing for good things for the rest of us too! ✨

triggers34 · 31/12/2024 10:45

Joining from the last thread.

@Nosejug so sorry for your loss
@VivienneDelacroix I really like the last dress -will you keep it?

My two separate orders are yet to be dispatched but I'll be sure to add pictures !

Poplinskirt · 31/12/2024 11:07

I really like that green cord dress on you @VivienneDelacroix

Am humming and haaaing about the red version of that jumper @Stravaig
Not least because there is likely to be a Kindred gift once the sale is over ?

ScottishMouse · 31/12/2024 12:44

I have no sales purchases to photograph (in fact, I just got an email from Royal Mail to sale the first of the sale parcels I am expecting has gone to the wrong place so will be delayed), but here are a few of my purchases from this season which I love. I have to absolutely love something to pay full price, and I have worn all of these a lot already.
I’ll take pics of some older Toast loves this week too.

I like that dress and jumper @ScottishMouse

Thanks for people’s thoughts on the dress. I still have very small shoulders but a huge bust nowadays - I suspect I would have to go huge in that dress for it to fit on the bust and it would look daft elsewhere!

Oh well - really I am just scratting around trying to buy something for the sake of it🙀

I have that dress @ScottishMouse and also love it, looks great with the jumper too.

roobyred · 31/12/2024 13:33

On a previous incarnation of this thread someone mentioned a place in Ireland that makes jumpers to order. Can someone remember the name of it please?

ScottishMouse · 31/12/2024 14:52

@triggers34 it is a great dress. I didn’t like it for some reason when I tried it first, I think maybe the dropped waist, but I tried it again later in the season and loved it.
I’m actually wearing the matching trousers in the second photo with the jumper, not the dress. I wish I were tall enough to layer the dress over the trousers, but that doesn’t work on me.

Stoic123 · 31/12/2024 15:44

@roobyred - Donegal Knitwear? They have ready to wear sizes but both @faustina and I have bought customised versions as the bodies are quite long (you won't be able return unless faulty if you custo).
