@ScottishMouse I've just fallen foul of the missing penny refund, £49.99 for a £50 tee - ridiculous, I don’t even know how they can arrive at that figure.

ScottishMouse · 06/01/2025 23:07

It’s weird, right @Theteapotsbrokenspout ?

@stravaig sorry to hear of your eBay woe. I had similar happen not so long ago. I was certain the buyer had damaged the item on purpose because they changed their mind. There was nothing I could do really, so I accepted the return. And when it arrived back, it was perfect, I have no idea what they were on about. So I relisted it and sold it again. Hopefully you can do the same. Why are people like this, don’t they realise how much stress it causes?

ScottishMouse · 06/01/2025 23:08

@neveradullmoment99 i also found the cosmic dot dress to be fairly neat, despite all the reviews saying to size down. I would have needed to size up to get it to fit my bust.

IlovePond · 06/01/2025 23:11

@Stravaig and @ScottishMouse - I think it’s because when people get the item in question they realise they don’t like it/it doesn’t fit. Then, instead of being honest and asking nicely if, just this once, you’d accept a return, they go on the attack.

I see it all the time at work - certain people attack/tell lies as a way of getting their own way. It’s very sad 😿

@IlovePond @neveradullmoment99 @ScottishMouse Thank you for the love 🥰 it's just so dispiriting on top of everything else.

@neveradullmoment99 @ScottishMouse That is very wise advice! They caught me off guard going straight on the attack with easily disprovable lies. You are right, of course - I walked away from a fight with the CHDA because it was making me more ill, so it's ridiculous to damage my wellbeing for a eBay scammer. Will see what they reply tomorrow and take it from there.

OftenOrange · 06/01/2025 23:21

@Stravaig Feeling your disappointment, dealing with such people is downright depressing. EBay has changed so much , I’ve bought and sold on it for years and never had these problems until recently . It’s all because they support buyers 100% rather than arbitrating as they did before.

I suppose it’s become a way of recouping funds on items that we don’t use and that in itself is worth plodding on for !

,

Stravaig · 06/01/2025 23:26

@OftenOrange It's definitely worsened over the years. I've had a run of hassle-free sales recently, with some genuinely lovely feedback, so I suppose my guard was down!

Stravaig · 06/01/2025 23:29

I am very much intrigued by the Mystery of the Missing Penny!

That's the kind of the happening where I want to know why.

Do you think they are making money out of it? I mean a penny from every refund surely adds up if they are selling thousands!

neveradullmoment99 · 06/01/2025 23:34

..and how many people don't notice it?

Edited

Honestly it was affecting me too and then I just thought it was not worth it. I mean I was losing sleep over it!

Stravaig · 07/01/2025 03:55

Apparently me too on losing sleep!

I suppose because it's an attack, someone is trying to exploit you, bully you, diminish you, to benefit themselves.

People like to pretend the UK is bound by civility, but honestly, it's an incredibly violent place. However most of the violence is economic, social, psychological. Imagine each of those harms as blows with fists, physical assaults with weaponry, and we quickly see what a vicious, brutish society this is. A relentless barrage of masked and therefore unacknowledged violence, which is incredibly damaging to individuals, and to society as a whole.

Cheery!

Someone must have released a Spring collection I can window-shop in the middle of the night 🌱☀️🌷

Stoic123 · 07/01/2025 07:12

@Stravaig - sorry to read of your woes. I would need to work hard to stop that keeping me awake too; I have the tendency to ruminate.

Quite a big overnight restock (which I can only window shop as I'm on a no buy now).

IlovePond · 07/01/2025 08:31

Aah, I keep missing the overnight restocks!

@Stravaig - I too am a worrier/ruminator and things keep me awake. I hope you feel better soon and get eBay sorted. Someone once told me to ‘glide like a swan above other people’s bad behaviour’, (I’m working on it!)

Morning everyone
Beautiful sunny but chilly (for us - 8 degrees) morning here in the Algarve. Sorry UK is having bad weather (again).

Dies anybody have the Stripe Organic Crinkle Poplin Dress?

I'm curious about the colour. It's looks rather warm toned to me. Can anybody advise please? I have this dress in a previous colour way of lightish blue and soft white and I adore it. Was hoping the current colour way might be not too warm toned.

Thank you.

IlovePond · 07/01/2025 10:25

Hi,

The blue bauble and the woodblock dove printing set - both totally unnecessary - have arrived and are staying. I might get another blue-toned bauble, (in the interests of balance😹).

The rust-coloured Lia tee in M is going back - it’s ok but a little tight and I really don’t need another not quite right item in my wardrobe. £20 in a sample sale and I’d get it, but £45 is too much as it’s not perfect. The L would be too big and I don’t love the colour either. Browns/oranges usually suit me but this one, not so much.

On the plus side, the box the order came in is the perfect size for me to use to post some boots I have just sold on eBay. (Wish me luck with that!) I have loads of Toast bags I can use to send the tee back to Toast.

£21 spend in a Toast sale is pretty incredible for me. I can’t really take credit for my restraint though, as it’s just because there’s nothing in the sale that appeals.

@Stoic123 thank you for the tip on the restock, I have managed to order a few bits I missed, the grey alpaca waistcoat, the alpaca striped jumper and the cashmere mix checked dress. Very excited for my parcel to arrive.

In non Toast news the Brora sale letter has just popped through my letterbox. It starts tomorrow, but doesn't say what time online.

RockaLock · 07/01/2025 10:57

If you have an account with Brora, you might be able to see the sale online if you login, as they are following the Toast customer hierarchy model and it's been open to "VIP" customers since yesterday.

Think it is the same with the Justine Tabak Sale . . although if you sign up as a sucbsriber you get a code the next day so in that way you do get a chance. I've just used my code - fingers crossed for a loose but feminine and flattering fit !

I have been enjoying all the sales chat, although I dithered too much and by the time I had decided, everything I had had my eye on had sold out.

But all your sales purchases have sounded and looked lovely!

Some good customer service from Toast today though - a new season jumper (the wool cashmere in terracotta) had already sold out in my size online Sad) but an online customer chat told me which stores had some in stock - and one will be arriving at my house on Thursday, courtesy of a very polite and helpful chap at the Lambs Conduit store Smile

Which means I can now close all my internet tabs of inferior orange jumpers that I was reluctantly considering as alternatives!

On a non-Toast note, does anyone know when Margaret Howell are likely to start their sale?

Great news on the jumper. I thought the MH sale had started, but I've just looked and it's not there is it. Hhmm. Strange.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 07/01/2025 13:22

@Stravaig My missing penny has been refunded and toast said they will 'raise a concern' not sure what that means - I don’t think my email was the politest as I wrote it late last night after a 2 hour council meeting.

@IlovePond @Countmeout Toast have looked at the picture of my bowl and acknowledged there is a fault with it and agreed to refund or replace. I assume they will want me to return the faulty one. I can see it ending up back in stock and being sent to someone else though, as I’m not sure they have a system to deal with faulty returns.

IlovePond · 07/01/2025 13:46

@Theteapotsbrokenspout - given the condition of some of the clothes people have been getting recently, I tend to agree! What are you going to do?

Poplinskirt · 07/01/2025 13:49

Thanks for the restock tip @Stoic123
I went straight in and got the Onyx linen dress in an XS .
I did try this in a shop in a small previously but it was too big and never got round to trying the XS -fingers crossed
I also saw that the Stripe/Wool Cashmere sweater in M came back into stock so ordered that too.
I really hope this is as lovely as it looks.
