I have set up a new Toastie thread, guys.

@SaffyRosie my money is on next Monday evening. The final reductions email came on Monday 15th last year, just after 7pm.

ScottishMouse · 06/01/2025 12:05

Actually @SaffyRosie a but more digging in my emails shows an email from mon 8th of further reductions up to 50% and then final reductions up to 60% a week later on Mon 15th. Sale ended last year on tues 23rd.

mizu · 06/01/2025 12:05

Is final reductions 10% extra off or do TOAST not do that anymore!?

ScottishMouse · 06/01/2025 13:31

@mizu I think it’s currently up to 40% off, and last year there was then up to 50% and then up to 60% at the end.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 06/01/2025 13:33

I received my last two sales orders today. The socks are great, the Sally Lacock seed earrings are understated and lovely.

However, the Willow pottery salad bowl has quite a crackled glaze inside which has surprised me. I can’t decide if it’s a fault or how it is meant to be. I don’t really want to go to the bother of returning it, and I’m reluctant to ring cs as my experience has been that they will tell you 'that’s how it ages beautifully' or some such nonsense (I’ve never really recovered from them telling me my blue Fracap sandals were meant to turn brown over time 🤨).

None of the other reviews mention this so I’m wondering if I’m just too fussy.

Willow Pottery Salad Bowl | Terracotta/Ecru

Our Terracotta/Ecru Willow Pottery Salad Bowl is crafted just outside Bath. Hand-thrown to a tapered shape with a glazed interior and unglazed outer.

Countmeout · 06/01/2025 13:48

@Theteapotsbrokenspout I got one this morning too and I can’t see any crazing. Is it bad? I do have a little bump in the glaze but I’m happy enough with it assuming it’s handmade.

ScottishMouse · 06/01/2025 13:50

Oh that’s disappointing @Theteapotsbrokenspout. I’m afraid I can’t advise as I have not seen these. I quite like a crackle glaze, but if it’s not what you were expecting, or is a fault, then that’s not ok.

I also received two sale parcels today (still waiting for one last one with the Minako trousers to dispatch), and sent them both to the post office with my ds almost immediately. The cosmic dot dress was terrible on me - too tight on the upper arms and bust, too long and the sleeves were crazy long. I also bought some paper decorations - a garland and the set of three large stars, and they all looked a bit like they had been used/trampled on, so they went back too. The second parcel had the tie neck poplin shirt (enormous), the boiled wool sweater (shape awful on me), and the trippen sandals (too big in my usual size but also felt really clumpy so wouldn’t look for a smaller size). I’m not sad that nothing worked, and am happy with what I have kept - grey alpaca tank, onyx stripe linen dress, 2 pairs of Falke socks.

Hello Toast Girls - can anybody advise in the baya patch pocket cord shirt? I'm between a 10 and 12 and just wondering which to go for.

IlovePond · 06/01/2025 14:54

@Theteapotsbrokenspout - I have seen that bowl instore - it is NOT meant to be a crackled glaze. I would call them as I wouldn’t use something cracked for food. Plus, even in the sale, not cheap.

Edited to say: I can’t really tell from your picture, but the glaze should be smooth and food safe.

OP posts:
faustina · 06/01/2025 15:02

I think I've read reviews on that bowl and they specifically said how lovely and smooth the inside was compared to the outside. I'd definitely email a pic and ask for a return to be sent. If they're as kind as when a salt pot arrived with a broken spoon, they'lll say keep the crackled one and you can put something like fruit in it!

I had two deliveries which also went straight back today. the linen boy tee was just not special enough for £42, and the indigo twill trousers were very underwhelming

Still waiting for the cotton linen jacket which should have come with the trousers but is apparently still 'processing'

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 06/01/2025 16:16

@IlovePond I have emailed Toast and sent the picture - although it's quite difficult to see on the photo. I'll wait for their reply, but I'm definitely not using it for food as it will only get worse, so I will send it back if necessary.

IlovePond · 06/01/2025 17:04

Hope it gets sorted @Theteapotsbrokenspout

@hattymattie I have the gold needlecord Baya shirt , it fits me in my usual 8 but any smaller wouldn’t do . I’d say it’s true to real life size .
Most reviews said it came up large but I didn’t find it so .
It’s quite square and boxy ,ends top hip, sleeves end 2’’ above wrist bone.
Looks as good with skirts as trousers.Go for it !

hattymattie · 06/01/2025 17:47

Thank you so much OftenOrange. Will go for size 12 then.

SaffyRosie · 06/01/2025 18:25

Ok so I took the bait. I've bought the bilberry cashmere poncho (was going to wait to see if it reduced further) and a pair of summer sage coloured linen pyjamas that popped up this morning. I'm hoping the sage colour is fairly neutral or cooled toned rather than warm toned. I'm a soft summer in colouring so anything warm toned looks dreadful on me and the same with very icy/cool tones.

The bilberry colour looks right up my street.

I have a problem with buying UK clothes as I live in Portugal. I refuse to pay the euro price as it's not a straight exchange rate plus the delivery and any customs fees. Instead I get the clothes sent to my friend in Bournemouth. Then I have to wait for her to visit or my husband or myself to go to the UK. This can put me outside the returns period. So I usually get my friend to model the clothes for me and to check for any faults. It's not an ideal system for me and I often have a long wait to get my hands on my purchases. Occasionally I have ended up with something that I don't like or doesn't fit and can't return. But I'm really carefully to read all the online reviews and this forum before buying to check sizing, style and colour.

Countmeout · 06/01/2025 19:21

I hope you get it sorted @Theteapotsbrokenspout .
I’ve looked again at mine closely and definitely no crazing.

The bilberry poncho is beautiful @SaffyRosie .

TosstTastic · 06/01/2025 19:47

Have thoroughly bonded with the bilberry poncho @SaffyRosie . It went out as a bunched up scarf, filling the v on a jacket. It's wrapped around my shoulders whilst I read in a sofa, keeping my back warm without the faff of an extra jumper. It also moves out the way when forced to attend to something splashy in the kitchen. I'm also really enjoying the colour. It folds down small, can your friend post it, make the most of the winter?

ScottishMouse · 06/01/2025 20:38

My missing refund appeared this morning. I also emailed about the missing 1p in my two recent refunds. They apologised and said they would refund me. Not really the point, I don’t especially need 1p, but I do wonder why it is happening.
Just waiting for the Minako trousers which have yet to be dispatched, but am completely done with the sale otherwise. Finally got out of my joggers today for the first time since my surgery before Christmas, am looking forward to wearing some new and old Toast favourites when I go back to work later this week.

OftenOrange · 06/01/2025 20:54

@ScottishMouse Great that you’ve recovered so well, and a dose of Toast will do you good !

The Cosmic dress and blouse are on the way , I ordered the dress out of curiosity and from reading good reviews but it has to be exceptional as I’ve six Toast barely worn dresses glaring at me. And a few ditto blouses.
I don’t have a dress lifestyle …..yet..

Stravaig · 06/01/2025 22:37

I know this happened to a couple of other Toasies recently - it is now my turn to run afoul of an eBay buyer trying to mess me around!

They are inventing spurious reasons my gorgeous item is 'not as described' to try to justify a return, all of which are easily disproved with reference to the actual (detailed, accurate) listing. They're ignoring multiple opportunities to gracefully backtrack and keep coming up with new supposed problems. I still have days of stress and hassle while this all plays out, and given my extremely limited capacities health-wise, it will wipe me out entirely until it is over.

I absolutely despise people who do this, especially as they are often preying on individual private sellers who, like me, are selling belongings they love because they have no choice, due to a change in circumstances (eg. illness) and ensuing poverty. Attacking my eBay reputation and forcing bogus refunds really is removing my last potential source of funds, however small and intermittent.

Just a wee wail and fume! 😩😠😡

I suppose it's taken my mind off the lacklustre sale 🤣 It's either laugh or cry ...

IlovePond · 06/01/2025 22:43

So sorry to hear this @Stravaig - it’s really upsetting when it happens - I hope it can be resolved soon and it doesn’t take too much out if you x

You are not alone. In the time I have sold on ebay I have had buyers returning items because they were creased on arrival, claiming they have shrunk or been damaged, all falsely I might add.
Save yourself the bother and just ask them to post it back and relist it. It honestly saves so much hassle. Don't refund until it is posted back to you.

My cosmic dress arrived today. Its quite neat across the bust on me. It's a nice dress although I am not keen on long sleeves and the sleeves for me are pretty long. I personally don't find it a generous dress but that might just be me and the excesses of Christmas!

IlovePond · 06/01/2025 22:48

Glad you are on the mend @ScottishMouse x
